Buyer beware … caveat emptor, however you want to say the warning.
I purchased a 2013 Mercedes-Benz C300 on a Saturday afternoon from Anthony for $9,300.00. The next morning, Sunday, my wife takes the car for a drive to the grocery store and she hears a scraping noise from the front end. On Monday morning I take the car to my local mechanic and after their inspection the shop foreman tells me the left front coil spring is broken and quoted me a price of $1,800.00. As the car came with a 3 month / 5000-mile warrantee I told the mechanic I will see what is covered under the warrantee. Tuesday I was starting a warrantee claim and I noticed an error on the paperwork as the mileage on the warrantee and the actual mileage on the vehicle did not match. Wednesday, I contacted Anthony wanting to correct the mileage reported to the warrantee company. Anthony wanted me to bring the car to him to verify the mileage in person. I told him I could not drive the car as the front coil spring was broken and the fender was rubbing the wheel arch and causing damage. I mentioned that I started a claim for the broken front coil springs as my mechanic wanted to charge me $1,800.00 for the repair. Anthony asked me to bring back the car so he could look at the springs and correct the problem. I had the car towed to Ultra1Motors and when I arrived Anthony was not there. I spoke with the owner and he argued with me that the coil spring was not broken stating that a previous owner had the coil springs cut. I informed the owner that an inspection of the suspension was performed and the coil spring was broken. The next day I call Ultra1Motors and the owner informs me that they had ordered parts for the repair. After a few days I get a call my car is ready to be picked up.
As I already had an appointment for the repair of the coil springs I changed the appointment to a front end alignment. The mechanic informed me the coil spring was broken and that it would be a waste of time and money to have the alignment performed.
Therefore, I must assume that Ultra1Motors either cut a good spring (owner stated they ordered parts) so the ride height would be the same on both sides of the vehicle or they figured out a way to rig the suspension. Either way Ultra1Moters knowingly let me leave their lot with a vehicle that was unsafe per PennDOT publication 45.
The following is from PENNDOT Publication 45. PennDOT Publication 45 (state.pa.us)
Subchapter E - Passenger Cars and Light Trucks 35 Vehicle Equipment and Inspection Regulations
175.80. Inspection Procedure
(e) Beneath the Vehicle Inspection - A beneath the vehicle inspection shall be performed as follows:
(3) Inspect suspension system and RE JECT IF one or more of the following apply:
(vi) The coil spring or main leaf spring is broken if originally equipped.

I came from Illinois to visit family. I decided to purchase a 2013 VW Passat. Leon the salesman did everything he could to work with me in making my payment. Due to a credit card error on the part of my card company I had to withdrawal money over three different days to pay the entire purchase price. Awesome place to buy a vehicle. Great and knowledgeable sales staff. I would recommend Ultra 1 Motors to anyone purchasing a newer used vehicle. ?
