I’ve been a patient at Persad for a year now and have had a wonderful experience. I see both a therapist and a psychiatrist for my generalized anxiety and panic disorder. Everyone I have dealt with has been warm and compassionate. My therapist Kathy has changed my life and I will be forever grateful!

Have been calling for a month now and keep getting the run around about my position on their waitlist. It’s no wonder the LGBTQ+ community here is so mentally unhealthy when this is one of your only options to receive services that are community specific.

We need more caring hands like this for our people in need. Mental health has never gone away and I am so happy that it’s becoming more accepted so we can focus on making it better by adding more resources to our community. This is exactly was Persad aims to do!

Persad Center, is the nation’s second oldest licensed mental health center specifically created to serve the LGBTQ+ community.
Founded in 1972, Persad was created in response to the demand for specialized, nondiscriminatory services expressed by LGBTQ+ individuals through an underground Pittsburgh gay hotline. Started by a group of gay activists in Allegheny County, the hotline was originally established to provide LGBTQ+ people with information regarding safe places to meet one another, and as a communication network to make LGBTQ+ people aware of happenings in the community.
