Relative went there yesterday with a Blood Pressure of 244/126 and unstoppable nosebleed. After 3 hour wait, he got his nose packed, had ONE dose of BP medicine, waited 5 more hours and WAS SENT HOME !!!! How could ANY Doctor consider him stable enough to go home??Absolutely shameful !!

Do not go to this hospital! Not only have I witnessed poor treatment with patients and visitors, I was treated so poorly, I needed two surgeries after a visit there. I belittled and yelled at numerous times and treated terribly from my first encounter with a nurse. I think they treated me even worse after they found out I was a veteran in the US Army. I sat in a treatment room for hours and even fell out of my bed. They still never checked on me after the alarm went off. I actually even had to crawl out of my room to get help for the pain, but a nurse then began to yell at me. When I asked to leave because I was not being treated, they refused to let me go. I have visited many different hospitals in the course of my 49 years, but have never seen such disregard for patients in my life. Humans should never be treated this way from care workers.

It sucks having to go to the emergency room, everyone knows that. Unfortunately there are times that it is necessary and I have been to most of the local UPMC emergency rooms. I have had okay experiences and terrible ones. From now on I will only go to the emergency department at St. Margaret's. I have never experienced a real long wait here. Usually you are called back fairly quickly to the triage nurse. I have had the same doctor multiple times and she is amazing. I have had some of the same other staff as well. They listen to my concerns and do their best to get to the root of the issue and help my symptoms. This doctor is familiar with complex illnesses and is willing to get creative and work with the patient to find what works. Obviously I will avoid emergency rooms as much as possible but it is nice to know that if I have to go that I will receive good care at St. Margaret's.

Worse experience I’ve ever had in an emergency room. Was sat in waiting room in excruciating pain for almost four hours and wasn’t any closer to being seen. I had to leave and go to an ER at another hospital.

One of the best emergency room and hospital visits I’ve had. I was definitely lucky to be there with only one couple ahead of me but I’ve never been greeted by a wheelchair when doubled over in pain. Wheeled to restroom then over to sign in. Took me immediately and we’re the kindest nurses and doctors I’ve ever had in any medical establishment. The care they took to listen and then explain every single thing they were planning with treatment was extraordinary. It’s a small facility and filled up while I was there but everyone hustled and handled their business professionally and compassionately. When I had to be admitted I got a chance to see the hospital side which was even more impressive. Every single person I encountered or who entered my room was ultra sensitive to my needs and truly caring. Every doctor, nurse, technician, and housekeeper was beyond kind -even when I could hear they had a lot on their plate. The rooms were spotless and every Covid protocol was in place. I felt safe. I was hurting and I thank you for your care.

I went in the er with chest pain arm pain and pain radiating into my neck when I arrived It took a half hour to get my vitals and check in, my bp was 171/126 and I was sent back out into the waiting room for 3 more hours before being seen. I also ask a nurse that walked by if I could have a blanket while I waited she looked at me and said she did have one so I walked up to the person who takes your information and she went and got me one plus asking others if they needed one (only good thing that happened) while sitting there waiting there was a 74 (heard son tell someone her age ) yr old lady there (who was there before me ) she was in alot of discomfort crying and saying her chest was hurting and she was dry heaving and she too was checked for vitals and left sitting in the er waiting room for hoursno one came out to even check my bp while waiting that whole timemost of the staff at that time were mostly rude and acted like you were putting them out of their way to take care of you

Complete joke of a hospital. No matter how bad your emergency is, take the extra time to drive literally anywhere else. Not worth making yourself a victim of medical malpractice

Absolute disgrace. Not a HEALTH facility or a CARE facility. Staff is completely unprofessional. If you are not cut out for this work, then find a different profession!Patients have to wait so long for a nurse. Don't tell them if you haven't been vaccinated for Covid because without letting you explain to them that you don't have it due to a bleeding disorder they will treat you like garbage and refuse to treat you!Frankly, it's none of their business as to why you don't have it but that is neither here nor there.Badly managed staff. Understaffed. Poorly run facility overall. The hospital administrator should be ashamed!

Just want to let the public in the Pittsburgh Area know that the so called Doctors in this hospital almost killed my 73 year old mother about two months ago in October 2021, mainly due to their inability to actually care and find a root cause for her choking symptoms she was frequently experiencing. She'd have a choking episode and would then go in for an endoscopy, then have her esophagus stretched as part of the treatment to stop the intermittent choking. This happened 4 times over the course of 18 months to 20 months and not once was there an attempt to further diagnose WHY she was having choking issues. No recommendations were provided on how to prevent reoccurrence, or whether to go seek a specialist. On the 5th occurrence and 5th endoscopy at this same hospital, it's been determined that the Doctor more than likely caused a cut in her esophagus during the procedure, and then sent her home. Over the course of 3-4 days, my mother internally bled 1 QUART of blood into her gut region..so blood was collecting in her pelvis region. She was in IMMENSE PAIN for 5 days. She went to the emergency room, and had emergency surgery, featuring an 8" vertical incision, to drain all the blood. And now she is still in recovery to this day. As I live in NJ...my parents didn't want to FaceTime me or for me to even visit as they didn't want me seeing her like that. Since my parents probably aren't going to sue, I'm going to let everyone know what happened, and will be adding names to this review once I'm able to read the reports. By the way, the northern NJ and NYC area hospitals don't spend nearly as much on marketing propaganda commercials as UPMC does. Another fun fact..UPMC has been running continual static advertisements (on hang down TVs) in the Newark Airport terminals for at least 5 years now (I used to be a frequent flyer before Covid), touting how experienced and capable their hospital system is. Why? And in the EWR airport? Maybe spend less on marketing, especially outside of the Pittsburgh area and more on making their Doctors actually care about their patients.

Like a 2.5... I don't want to hate on this hospital as I feel incredibly terrible for all the healthcare workers having to work through this time in history. I will say almost everyone I dealt with was nice, some even compassionate. I had a falling accident. I thought I would be ok but soon discovered I couldn't walk without very sharp burning pain streaming through my lower back. I was very nervous I had done a lot more than embarrass myself so we headed to St. Margaret. I guess I haven't been to a hospital in a while. You must enter through security. Masks are a definite as they should be since the ER was mostly littered with Covid patients. Several crying out. We got there around 1 pm. It was very uncomfortable sitting in the waiting chairs. I had to sit hunched to try and not aggravate my back spasms. We were there for a little over two hours when they called me into a room. I told my husband and his daughter to leave I would text them. They took me to a room told me to put on a gown. Gave me a pillow and a blanket and left me there for about another 2-2.5 hours. I was cold and in a lot of pain. I buzzed the nurse for an extra blanket but otherwise laid there waiting. At some point a doctor popped in. I told him what happened and he said they would do X-rays pain meds and go from there. The radiologist was very nice. He pushed me in the gurney to the X-ray room and just pleasantly chatted with me throughout. Once completed I waited back in the room when a nurse popped in to give me a couple shots. At the same time the doctor came in to say nothing is broken go home. I was a little persistent since it was going on a 6-1/2 hour visit and that information did not explain my pain. He said it's probably just a bad bruise and if I wasn't better in a day or two go see my PCP. Pretty much all he said and he bounced. I then had to wait another 30 minutes just for discharge papers. I completely understand hospitals are overwhelmed with Covid patients who for the most part could have completely avoided being there, but that is another frustrating topic! However, I didn't really feel like my condition was taken seriously. It's been almost a week and I still have little improvement and met with my PCP who suspects nerve issues based off my explanation and symptoms. They ordered an MRI and now I wait again. Upon check out, which was another 15 minutes because "the computer" yada yada, the very nice lady told me I came on a good day. Usually it's 8 hours just to be seen. Yikes! Can you just take the title "Emergency" from this section of the hospital and call it room? So it's been a long time since I was last at an ER and will hopefully be another longer time before I ever have to go back. Should have just went to Med Express, and that's really a place I don't recommend but considering the care I received I would think it would be very comparable except cheaper and quicker.

This has been my moms go to hospital for upmc since it’s the nearest to her home but recently all staff are so unwelcome and rude from the moment you walk in the receptionist is so nasty and disrespectful to everyone else making you feel like you can’t ask a question to thinking she owns the place! Will not be recommending or coming back to this awful place! Save your time and go anywhere but here!
