don't go to this place . I was not happy with this place at all. took my mom there and the doctor was rude I didn't like him at all. he kept talking about lymphoma and bone marrow my mom was not even there for that. she was there for something they found in her breast that was bynied. his assistant said they we're going to put she had lymphoma on her paperwork just so the insurance would pay for it. that is insurance fraud I'm not happy with these people and I will not be going back there.

Had to go to the Hillman Cancer Center for 2 MRI's. The nurse and MRI tech was extremely nice and very friendly. I was in and out of the MRI's in no time. If you have to go for an MRI Hillman is great.

I absolutely love Hillman Center. My husband and I have seen the same Dr @ Hillman for lung cancer. I can't say enough about him and his team. And when other Drs were needed to address another issue? All lined up before appt or quickly there after. Everything is centrally located. I have my CT and blood work before hand and by the time I see Dr, all results are available. Making next appts are super simple and done efficiently. Parking is easy with valet and same price all whether there all day or just a few hours. A well oiled machine!

First, and obviously most important, I am doing well. I am so thankful for that. With that being said, I found my experience at Hillman to be incredibly impersonal. First, seems like a HIPAA violation to be weighed and questioned in the middle of the waiting room. Yes, it is behind a small partition, but you can absolutely hear everything that is being said while you are sitting there waiting for your doctor appointment. The wait times for scheduled appointments last for hours. I received chemo there for a year. Other than the very nice nurse who activated the port and drew the labs, it was very impersonal. They are documenting all kinds of patient teaching, which in my experience never happened. At the end of my year of chemo, there was absolutely no acknowledgment at all. No congratulations, no mention of having achieved that milestone, nothing at all, not even a good bye as I left from the nurses gathered in the nurses station. May seem like a small complaint, but it meant something to me. And I had the same experience receiving radiation treatments at Shadyside, very impersonal, no congratulations or any kind of personal touch. Again, I know this sounds like such a petty complaint, but when I see the lovely videos of friends who have gone through the same types of treatments, and see the staffs gathering to celebrate with them, ringing the bell, and hear their stories of the lovely gestures made by their caregivers, it makes it even more clear how really impersonal the treatment is at Hillman.

My best friend died under their care. Supposedly he was making grand progress. When I found him lying dead on his kitchen floor, Dr. Appleman signed the death certificate over the phone. No autopsy was conducted. If his death certificate says "cancer", it's a lie. He had the cancer removed and a new bladder created. It aged him about 10 years. I suspect he died of a blood clot. But we will never know because Hillman Cancer Center and Dr. Appleman don't care to find out why their patients die. Appleman has virtually no patient skills. Arrogant, condescending, fudging answers to questions, with his plastic smile.

The Hillman Cancer Center has literally saved my mom's life. She has been going to the Hillman Cancer Center now for 5 years after her diagnosis of stage 4 cancer. The staff and volunteers at the Hillman center are always kind, patient, and caring. From our first desperate phone call to now five years later, we have always been treated like family. The difference of the kindness, caring, quality of staff, and innovative cutting edge treatment options has given my mom more time and quality of life... and that is what really matters. We had been to several other cancer hospitals and no one else we have seen even comes close. If you are looking for the best cancer care and want to feel truly cared about look no further. If your are reading this review it is likely you or a loved one needs cancer care. I wish you the best of luck and health.

My first experience here. My visit was with a hematolagist and a blood draw. All staff was great and very helpful. It's a busy place I was there a bit but was informed of delay. Valet parking for $5 bucks is a bonus too.

Horrible, horrible place. How this place ranks in US News is beyond me. I don't think anyone should take that magazine seriously. This so called Cancer center is a joke. It's poorly run. Completely disorganized. Machines are down frequently. The staff communicate with each other and the patient poorly. We had an absolutely miserable experience.

Took my mother to Hillman center September 9th 1:30 in the afternoon came back out from valet parking my car had been hit in the left quarter panel ask they gave me a form to fill out the next day they called and said that the damage is minor to buff it out myself , no way to run a multi million dollar business I would advise nobody to give them your keys at the valet parking at the home in center it's basically too bad if something happens I thought by paying the $5 that would guarantee me my vehicle in the same shape I took it in no such luck .! There wasn't that much damage couple hundred bucks Twitter fix this but their attitude very poor , beware to people who are taking their sick relatives there for help you might just come out with more problems and you went in with how UPMC can allow this type of behavior to go on it's beyond me I guess they figured couple hundred bucks I won't say anything or make that much waves over it but other people I'm sure are going through the same thing what a racket, shady dishonor

I'm not super impressed by this place so far from a strictly administrative perspective - I'm not going to talk about doctors, because there are so many and patient experience will vary. First, we were told to arrive at a certain time. We did, and registered, then waited nearly an hour. When we asked, we were told that the appointment was actually two hours later. A 1:00 pm appointment, which we were on time for, was actually scheduled for 3:00. Since we had another appointment with the doctor at 3:00, this caused a bit of stress. Turns out, the appointments were scheduled and rescheduled without letting us know what was going on. We drove more than five hours to get here - a heads up would've been nice. After two hours, that first appointment was taken care of and the other doctor said that he'd wait for us. We waited an additional two hours to see that doctor. That's after we had to hunt down receptionists just to register. This is all with an appointment, mind you. I get some delays, but keeping patients informed is an important aspect of patient care: so many decisions are taken away when you're ill; it's important to continuously communicate to reduce stress. If it were just us, I'd write it off as a fluke, but in the four hours I've been sitting here (and counting) I've watched other patients come and go, many with the same complaint: why didn't you tell us X? Why didn't you tell is Y? Why didn't you talk to us? Why didn't you tell us what's going on? On the plus side, they have flat rate valet parking ($5) which is one less worry! And the therapy dogs that routinely travel around the building provide some much needed stress relief. The free WiFi is also a great touch.

Hillman has been a bright spot during a rather bleak experience with cancer. The care here is unmatched, the doctors are caring, the nursing and reception staff are extremely friendly and everyone seems to genuinely care about your well-being. It can be pretty busy here and wait times can be longer than you are comfortable with, but I'd rather wait for great care than get fast, mediocre care. During chemo treatments, they offer lunches, snacks, and drinks for free including sandwiches, chips, sodas, juice, and water. There is also a cafe that has fresh salads and soups. There's a wig shop that offers styling lessons as well. There is also valet parking because parking in Shadyside can be stressful. I would absolutely recommend making the trip into Hillman for treatment. It has really helped make going through treatment more pleasant for my entire family.

I was treated at Hillman for Leukemia. The doctors there that I saw are all geniuses! The nurses are also wonderful and very good at what they do. They are very caring. I have been going now for two years, some of the time three days per week. I highly recommend Hillman. They have literally saved my life!
