The car I picked up reeked of marijuana and drivers side was parked 1" away from other car. I got on with my trip and realized that the tank was on EMPTY. It is not easy finding a gas station in NYC so I brought it straight back to condo garage. Zipcar said they would refund my trip, but after 4 phone calls all I got was ZIP. I am looking for ANY other car share service right now.

I wish I had anything good to say about Zipcar .Company concept seems to be they are always right and customer is always wrong.At least that is my experience. Don't use if you dont have to.I have endless examples of their utter disregard for a good customer and there is not enough space and time here to get into details.Just be warned.

Roadside Assistance isn't ever gonna happen. Never. Don't wait around for help when they say they'll get a provider for you in 40mins-1hr. It's a lie. They never came. Dead battery car, they give you an option to tow it away, taking days currently to tow it away and the provider will call you at 3,4am even to ask you "wheres the car?" WHY DO I HAVE TO BE UP AT THAT TIME TO TELL THEM WHERE THEIR DEAD CAR IS??? Nonsense all around. Every time you contact Customer service team, you have to provide all the same info all over again bc they don't do their job. Never will do shit.

Had a wonderful Thanksgiving day with my family until it turned into a nightmare as I was driving my zip car down the Saw Mill Parkway. The car stopped reacting to my foot on the accelator and it was slowing down dramatically that I had to quickly pull my car over to the shoulder then these two red lights came on. The battery and red faucet icon. The incompetent agent of zipcar kept trying to troubleshoot and get the car moving by unlocking the car and having me move the steering wheel side to side. A simple Google search will tell you these icons means the car can't get power from the battery irrespective of the battery being fully or not, it could be a cable issue etc. It just simply means the car needs to get inspected by an auto mechanic. Anyway I ripped into ZipCar and told them they need to educate their agents about this and not trouble shoot but tell the driver to call a tow truck because the car needs to be inspected and isn't safe to drive. I will posting this review on zipcar telling them their incompetence is dangerous for their clients. It took me three hours to get home grateful for Westchester county police parking their car behind my car so I didn't get accidentally rear ended and waited unti came. I wanted to post so you can become aware if you see this light suddenly come on in your car to pull over and get towed unless you are knowledgeable car mechanic that knows how to quickly trouble shoot this.

A month before Thanksgiving I reserved a minivan. It was a one hour subway ride from my home. I arrived 10 minutes before my reservation. The plan was to get the van, drive back home to pick up the rest of my family including a 5 week old baby. We had to be in New Jersey for our large family gathering to meet our newest member. As soon as the attendant saw my reservation he immediately said it wasn't there. He said it is never there. Zipcar customer service was useless. They offered reimbursement for alternative transportation. So for seven people I ordered two Ubers. Cost $400. Zipcar reimbursement maximum $35. I wish I could give minus stars.

I booked a car for tomorrow, Thanksgiving, several weeks ago. Today, less than 24 hours before the scheduled pick-up time, I was notified that the reservation was "updated." Instead of getting the car from the garage across the street from my apartment in Manhattan, I was now supposed to pick it up at a garage several miles away, in Queens. The whole point of using Zipcar is supposed to be convenience. What is the point of my having to take a cab or the subway to Queens to pick up the car, and also have to return it there and take a cab or subway to get home again? What is the point of having this system of reserving cars if they can change it at the very last minute? I reserved weeks ago because I knew it would be difficult to get a car on Thanksgiving. Turns out it is impossible if you use Zipcar. I have been using Zipcar for many years, since they first arrived in NYC. I pay an annual membership fee -- FOR WHAT??????? Now I'm reading review after review showing that this is a common practice with Zipcar. I'm so disappointed because up until today I considered them to be a reliable company. No more.

I originally applied to Zipcar and didn't realize my license was suspended (I live in the city and haven't had a car for years - I forgot to pay a parking ticket and only realized when I applied for this service). My request was denied, so I got my license updated and taken care of. A few months later when I tried to re-apply they told me I was indefinitely ineligible because of this. Extremely stupid logic and I'd heard negative things about the company anyway so good riddance.

Every single thing went wrong. Our convenient Brooklyn pickup location was moved to the middle of nowhere less than 24 hours before the trip. I called to try to find another option, but the person on the phone was not able to help me. He seemed like he had a hard time understanding me and was mildly frustrated, and there was a constant banging sound in the background of the call, making it hard to hear him. We took an Uber to our new faraway pickup location the next morning, only to find that the car had an electrical problem and wouldn't turn on. We called to ask for help, and they were unable to connect to the car or schedule us another Zipcar. Our whole trip was ruined and we couldn't go anywhere. While on the phone, we asked if Zipcar would cover our cab home, as we were left in the middle of nowhere. The representative told us they would. I emailed to follow up with the receipts, and although Zipcar refunded our rental, they've refused to cover the Uber because "only the difference in value in the alternative transportation and the refunded Zipcar booking is eligible for reimbursement, up to a maximum of $25." I've made it clear repeatedly that this was not "alternative transportation"--we missed the trip. This reimbursement for transit home was what was promised to us on the phone. They are still refusing to honor that, so I decided to share my review about being lied to, missing my trip, and losing money in cabs to get me absolutely nowhere. This was my very first Zipcar booking, and it truly was a once in a lifetime experience--in that I will never, ever book again. Thanks for teaching me a valuable lesson, Zipcar!

Add another one star review onto this complete disgrace of a company. Know what's nice? Reserving a car in your neighborhood that you know will be filthy when you got it. Despite that- and because there's no other options-you do it. Then you get your garage location changed to the middle of nowhere necessitating at least $50 in round-trip taxis or Uber's to get the filthy car and return home post drop off. Not done with the sandwich that you will be forced to eat from this company serving up spoiled trash, when you call them to correct the problem you're hung up on three times. And the best they can do to help is offer you 15 minutes of driving credit...worth approximately $4.00... for a future ramrodding/rental. God I hate them so much.

I've applied for zip cars services twice the first time in December 2020 they denied me for reasons that made absolutely no sense at least towards my driving record. I had just gotten my license for the first time and I hadn't even driven yet besides the driving classes I took. So their reasons make absolutely no sense as to why they denied me. I called and talked to multiple agents and no one could give me a legit answer as to why my application was denied. I explained I literally just got my license so there could be no way these claims could be on my driving record I've checked the DMV it says "YOU CAN DRIVE" It says no suspensions or violations so their reasoning for denying me makes no sense. Later down the line now October 2022 I decided to apply again with a different email and this time the reasons they give me are a , new requirement, Wrong documentation, Driving record which again makes no sense because I have nothing on my license their just denying people for absolutely no reason so I'm reporting what horrible people zip-car agents have, and the type of company they are running, and to top it off when you call and try to see if you could fix the situation they tell you there's nothing they could do to help you l. They just dismiss you like your not a person l and I wanted to say something because me nor anyone else deserves to be treated this way!!!! ZIP CAR SUCKS

This company had me running from location to location both yesterday and today. They have a block on my billing account due to them attempting to charge my card too many times and have done not one thing to make it right, other than chide me for cursing due to my frustrations. They gave me misinformation and I made plans due to this misinformation. I did every single thing they asked of me which included going to my bank to move funds to try another card, and still had no resolution other than, so sorry you just wait. I left items in the car and I was told I had to wait until the next day to reserve a the same car and hope to GOD that my items would still be in the trunk. No contact to driver who has the car ?? Why not?? It was unbelievable to me to know that that multiple people will be using the car and knowing that I left items in the trunk.. I must wait and see... so angry, so disappointed. I didn't even waste my time to reserve the dam care over 24 hours later to see if the items are still waiting for me.. for real... so disappointed!!!
