I love South Deli. I've been going to them for awhile. It's the only place in Center City that sells Dominican/Puerto Rican food. Food that my Puerto Rican mom use to make. My favorite is the pernil, of course. But the rice with beef stew is delicious too. I have to bring home the tostones and pastelillos to my son and husband. That is their favorite. The owners are nice and friendly. God Bless.

Delicious platters , amazing value, phenomenal service. The beef stew with yellow rice and beans is my favorite. Well seasoned and tender meat.

Small corner store with a big heart. Has a kitchen with unmatched breakfast for the price. Ribs, beans & rice platter is portioned for two meals easily. Great choice for lunch and simultaneously supporting a local business.

I came here because I read reviews about the Dominican food. I was hoping to get pernil aka the roast pork bun unfortunately only available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Instead, I bought short ribs served with rice and black beans. The meat fell off the bones, good flavor but a bit dry. I saw the broth from the ribs was poured on top of the rice and beans and this brought more flavor to the rice and beans, so delicious and not too salty. Tostones: the slices are thick but not too dry, perfectly w. Plantains: perfect ripeness and not burnt. I highly recommend both of them.

I just moved to Graduate Hospital and decided to try this place to see if it could be my new hoagie spot. I'm from NJ originally and a good classic American hoagie is my favorite kind of comfort food. This deli got great reviews and I love that they also serve some Dominican food, namely so I could get a quick order of plantains if I wanted. I wasn't sure if I could order online or by phone, so I walked over on my lunch break on a Friday afternoon. It was just me in there so I walked to the back and placed my order with the woman there -- American hoagie, all the fixings, mayo, pickles, oh and an order of fried sweet plantains! It was ready in about 10 minutes. In the meantime, I saw a bunch of regulars come in and get their food and leave -- so I think you can order by phone though I never heard one ring the entire time I was there. They seem to know their regulars, which gave it all a warm and cozy feel. They also have all the basics you could need for breakfast or lunch -- plenty of drinks, tastykakes, snacks, cans of soup or ramen, cookies, etc. I grabbed a soda from the case in front, paid, and headed home. (It was $15.75 for everything -- not too bad considering it was a large hoagie and a big portion of plantains.) The hoagie was pretty solid! It had all the flavors I had been craving, but somehow tasted "light" -- I am guessing they carve out the inside of the roll to reduce all the breading but I didn't actually see this happen in person. My pickles were missing unfortunately but it was still good. The plantains were perfectly sweet and fried. Overall, a solid spot, but not sure if it's my favorite just yet. I think I'll try calling ahead next time, and will have to remember to bring a bag because they don't have paper ones -- 50 cents for a reusable tote bag (it's super cute though as it looks like a grocery bag).
