As a new resident of Fairmount, I was looking forward to shopping locally but, I'm out $20 and will never be back. The manager was so rude and yelled at me when I followed his directions and went down the wrong aisle. I purchased some drill bits from a friendly enough cashier.
Turns out I purchased the wrong sized bits and returned to the store within the hour to exchange them. The manager yet again was so rude. He refused the exchange and said the bits were "tools" and non-refundable and said that was printed on the receipt. The tool in fact was the manager. Too bad he is non-refundable.
I had carefully opened the packaging in case I had to return it and neatly taped it back together, His argument was also that he could not resell the item due to packaging.
I understand store policies have to be put in place but, if an item is non-refundable and it's not obvious, the cashier should say so. No one reads the top of receipts and even if they did, it is given to you after the purchase has already been made.
If he had actually gotten off his duff and helped me, I wouldn't have bought the wrong size and would've upgraded the screws needed.
Now I'm just screwed for trying to shop local.

Don’t go to Lowe’s. Don’t go to Amazon. Don’t go to Home Depot. Go here. The people actually know what they’re talking about and will go out of their way to help you. I was trying to get a car key fob copied and the manager spent over half an hour helping me, including sitting in my hot car trying to reprogram my key. While we weren’t successful, the effort she went through was amazing. Support your local hardware stores!

I just had a key made for my car that had computer chips in it, and the staff was very knowledgeable and quickly made me a working car key that the other hardware store failed to successfully make for me.

Very friendly staff. Took my screen for repair. It took them 7 days to repair it. When I took the screen home, it didn't fit my door. Had to take it back so they can make it square. It's still not fixed. My door was custom-made. I had to take it to a professional. 38 bucks at Ace are not worth it.

I frequent this place so I was shocked to say the least. I’ve never entered an establishment and over heard employees dropping the F bomb so openly and while customers were in the store. They were congregating at the front tool desk and casually talked about f- ing deliveries and orders coming in. There were three of them, two men and one lady who I must say had the most potty mouth ever and she was wearing a shirt that said “it’s a girl thing”.
To top things off the white guy had the audacity to say while speaking to his colleagues “once you go black you never go back”. This could have been a compliment but, I don’t know where the comfortability of speaking like that while costumers are shopping comes from but; it was very off putting and made me uncomfortable. The young lady working as a cashier seemed equally confused by the amount of obscenities being used so openly.

I love this store so much. The staff are incredibly helpful, and go above and beyond recommending and finding what you need for whatever project you're working on. The garden selections are amazing! Only downside is the flower pots are SO expensive. I've purchased pots at rite-aid for a fraction on the cost and the same quality. I did have one negative experience of being left one hold, when calling to check whether they had a particular kind of plant, that was 15 minutes long and ended up with being disconnected. But I'm going to call that a one off, since every other (many, many) experiences have been great.

I placed an order online on 04/21/2024 for local pickup at this Fairmount Hardware. I simply forgot to pick this up. I was planning to pick it up tomorrow since I need to use the product. But when I checked my Ace account, it was marked as "picked up on 05/20/2024". I made lots of purchases at Ace website for pickup at the suburban Havertown Ace store and have never had any problems. I have never landed my feet at the Fairmount Hardware. I will never do any business with Fairmount Hardware. Fortunately I just got my money back with the help of my Credit card company. What a horrible business!

First time customer, I had the absolute displeasure of speaking with Melissa over the phone while trying to get some information about their stock of vacuum belts. My understanding of replacement vacuum belts is that it can be a difficult to determine the exact type without having all the specific information for the belt. I tried to explain to Melissa that I wasn't exactly sure what information she needed to help make her job easier and asked a few times what information would be helpful. There seemed to be a miscommunication, and when I mentioned not wanting to waste 40 mins of my time & gas driving over there only to find they didn't have the part (google said it was in stock at their store, I called to verify with the part in hand) she took offense then told me I was wasting Her time and abruptly hung up on me. We had been on the phone maybe 5 mins. This call should have been handled far more professionally. I would not recommend this store based on this interaction.

Great local spot for anything you could need from a hardware store. Staff were friendly, enthusiastic and helpful.
