My favorite book store in the city! I go to their book club every month and it's a great time. Highly recommend checking out and stopping in

I was recommended to come here from a very knowledgeable person in the neighborhood. I went to see what it was like, and A Novel Idea on Passyunk seems like a wonderful experience in a local Philly neighborhood.
The room is spacious, and carefully curated with literature. The contrast between this space and other bookstores may be that there is not an overwhelming sense of choice. This is different and it is refreshing, because it allowed me to peruse. It felt as if the space offered a moment to have deep conversation amongst well-written authors.
I would recommend grabbing a coffee from one of the neighboring coffee shops and browsing A Novel Idea on Passyunk. It may be the modern day feel of a Paris salon during the Enlightenment!

I always love coming here! Christina and Alex are the best and always friendly. A Novel Idea is a small shop, but there's always something going on from bookclubs, writing workshops, and author events.

The sweetest and most intentional book store! My book club hosted a night here recently where we got to bring snacks, drinks, spend time amongst the beautiful store and then have our tarot cards read by the shop owner, Christina. Was one of our best book clubs yet 10/10!!!

Our book club hosted our monthly get together at the shop and we had the BEST time! The owners made the space welcoming for our group, and we loved browsing the book selections and having a tarot card reading. The shop has a varied selection of books from many genres and we left with a few ideas for upcoming book clubs picks. Can't wait to go back!

My friend told me about the shop and I decided to stop by. I'm so happy to seeing a small business bookshop doing so well. They had a really cool selection. It's smaller than a Barnes and Noble but their selection is 100x better. The staff clearly cares deeply. They also take orders so if they don't have a certain book in stock you may be able to order it through them.

I love this cozy, well-curated bookstore! They host lots of community events, and will happily order any book they don’t have in stock.

? Their hours are inconvenient and inconsistent. They close before I’m done work - and it seems like a missed opportunity to not be open on busy Passyunk Ave when people are out and about for happy hour or dinner. Also - my husband ordered a book from here when the author encouraged purchases from local book stores. They ordered the wrong one and then told him it didn’t exist in a hard cover version, so he had to buy it at a different book store.

Always the best service in the neighborhood, and a shop where the owners know their customers by name.

The people. The books. It had all I needed. I live in Chicago so I can't call it my bookstore, but it would be.
