Absolute Crap. They sell tickets for seats but when you board the seats are just a free for all. Someone was in our seats and wouldn't get up and the people who run the thing don't care.
Don't oversell your train if you can't run the business right.

A real shame that York 17 doesn't operate anymore, but they do have a GP7 which I'll take any day! The ride was nice, nothing too special but still nice. The Easter Bunny costume was a bit...uncanny though. I also recommend expanding the gift shop and adding more areas for people to check out the rolling stock. I was actually able to follow the train back to the shed and got some incredibly surreal pictures.

My husband and I have decided that this train ride is the top-of-the-line as far as we are concerned for customer service and such an enjoyable and fun ride; the entire staff was so friendly and you felt like a guest in their home. This was such a departure from other train rides we have taken with other company that treat you as a dollar sign. The staff was very informative about what to expect from the short stops and the history of the rail. We had a blast and hope to come back again soon! Our excursion iincluded a box lunch and it was pretty good! If I could give the company more than a 5-star rating I would. By the way we rode in the New Freedom car and it was very comfortable.

I truly can't say enough about how wonderful the Northern Central Railway of York is. My son just completed his third year in a row of participating in their S.T.E.A.M. camp. Mr. Ben and his assistants guide the children through a week of Train related and educational crafts and activities highlighting Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. It is an incredible program that gives the kids so many opportunities including the chance to actually drive the diesel train and a friends a and family ride at the end of the week. The entire staff including Ashley, Dan, Harold and the Awesome conductor whose name is escaping me at the moment are so enthusiastic, knowledgeable and helpful. I am so grateful we found this gem!

What a fun day taking a ride with engine 17, a replica steam engine! An hour on the rails in New Freedom. Beautiful scenery, nice people who explain about the railroad, some entertainment at the station in the form of 2 people in period dress who became Mr Goodridge and Mrs Smith, actual historical figures who were born into slavery and became wealthy entrepreneurs in this part of the country in the early 1900s. Nice little museum and a lovely little gift shop. A slice of history right here in York County, PA. A relaxing and lovely ride today.

This train ride is not only educational but fun as well. The train station itself is done very well. The staff is friendly and accommodating. We took the trip to Hanover Junction and learned more about history. It was very enjoyable.

Over the summer, Steam Into History had rail ties replace by a company called Track Builders. About 20% of the rail ties they put in around mile marker 12 are cracked and don't look too safe. They also put in cracked/defective ties prior to the Howard Tunnel. Not sure who paid for the work, but Track Builders did a poor job. Please be Advised if you are planning on taking the train north of Hanover Junction. DOES NOT LOOK SAFE!

We went on the 1pm train ride to Hanover Junction for Grandparents Day. It was a very enjoyable 2.5 hour ride. My in-laws and family had a relaxing time on the trip listening to the conductor provide the history of the rail line and sights we were passing.
