I absolutely adore this store and have been a frequent shopper since we moved to the area last year. The staff are AMAZING! They are so sweet and accommodating and hugely helpful when finding books or toys. I buys all of my kids toys here and they LOVE this store. The selection is incredible and perfectly curated to have wonderful options for everyone (especially diverse selection of POC authors!). The owner is fantastic and has saved us TWICE when my son left his lovey in her store. She knows my name and is so kind every time we go. Honestly nothing beats supporting this incredible local business. This sweet women even put his lovey in a bag with my name on it when she found it because she recognize that it was my sons. 100 stars ?

A very good store for shopping for very interesting and fun items for your children or grandchildren!! Staff is very friendly and helpful!! Good learning items mixed in with loads of fun things!! Good place to take your kids!!

I live in NYC and go out of my way to stop by Character Development whenever I’m near Philly. It’s my favorite children’s bookstore (with amazing toys and gifts too.) Just the right size -amazingly curated, great variety, yet not overwhelming.

Good book selection and a good variety of kid's toys. Excellent staff and service. On street metered parking. Specials offered regularly. Fun to browse this and other shops in Narberth Pa. across from PLCB liquor store and next to a fine French bakery.

This store has always been one of my favorites. I was there today after a long time away. It's still a great shop--I found many great books and a few cute little Easter basket items, but I have to say I was dismayed when I got to the counter and saw the sign that there are no returns or exchanges due to COVID. This is an unreasonable position for a business at this point in the pandemic. We know that the risk of infection from surfaces is low. Libraries are open. Others stores are open and accepting returns. If there is a great concern about this, implement a 3 day "quarantine" period for items that are returned like some libraries are doing. I like to buy gifts from Character Development. I don't want to buy a gift if the gift recipient can't exchange it in the event they already have it/don't like it etc. Today I would have bought my goddaughter many more books, but I was unwilling to do so since she couldn't exchange them if she already had them. I want to support small businesses, but I won't be supporting this one any longer as long as this policy remains in place.
