I adopted my dog from here and have had him for 6 years now. Went to look another dog today and was greeted at the door only to be told that because they are understaffed and have too many dogs, we were not able to view dogs without an approved application and appointment first. It may help if this was on the website. As we went to leave, the employee who greeted us, was at the side door on her phone smoking. Very disappointing.

Ive always loved going to humane society in richland but price has gone up soo much to adopt and they expect soo much just to adopt a dog they had brought in and dropped off not wanted..i cant afford to adopt a dog from them anymore so i just settle for my small family i do have here.. hard to get anyone to come to oakhurst to pick up all the strays in area its the only place so i guess we r not allowed helping them per said by housing themselves but we have to watch them freeze and starve to death outside ive seen some terrible things because of these rules!! It makes me sad.. please send help to the projects ppl keep throwing their poor cats out im not allowed saving them anymore im sorry i got into trouble for an animal shelter and food...its sad it wasnt taking much room at all now they are scattered with nowhere to sleep or cuddle up n b warm it saddens and sickens me noone cares for the poor strays with no choice or ppl who love them!! Step it up plz humane society!!

I adopt a cat with no problems and the ladies at the human society were wonderful. However you might want to let the public know that no Veterinarians take new pets in this area!!

This is where my two cats came from. They are happy and healthy. We got married a short time ago and in lieu of gifts requested that people bring us pet food. We donated about 150 lb to the Humane Society

After having to wait forever for approval was approved and looked at cat that I was interested in. They then told me I had to schedule a meet and greet. So I Asked ahead of time if anyone else was currently interested in cat that I was interested in. Was told no. Day of meet and greet Was running behind (because of work) ,so I called. They then told me cat was adopted earlier in week! Really?? No notification or anything when I was approved and scheduled for meet and greet! Will never try to adopt from this place again!

I am very disappointed in them. I had 5 cats someone left on my porch and thought they would take them, they not only told me they could not but if they would have it would have been $40 a cat !Also when I made the comment I may have to put them out.. they said do what you have to do ! This is not caring about animals at all and why there are so many running out in the streets.

Very hard to get approved. Even if you have the perfect situation for your new pet. So much easier to deal with Bedford

Honestly if I could give zero stars I would. This organization not only doesn’t put effort into their pet listings. my cat was listed as camera shy as are many of them on the website and when I went to the shelter they told me that they just hadn’t got the time to put a photo up for her (it had been a month since i’d viewed her listing) . They also don’t put much effort into pet care either. My cat had a bacterial eye infection alongside an upper respiratory infection and she also has a hyper thyroid issue. she’s doing much better now. it also shows on the records that they gave me that she was sick multiple times in the I believe 11 weeks she was there. That is when I adopted her. The shelter honestly does not do a very good job with taking care of their animals and I don’t believe that’s very humane. I also feel that they shouldn’t microchip them as if the owner wants that done they will get it done.

Really caring... We as a community should be grateful .. This is one organization that truly deserves our support .

My boyfriend and I are looking to adopt a cat. We had looked at a few previous shelters and applied for two cats we fell in love with but we wanted to keep looking just to be safe. We walked in and the smell was horrible. Not a normal level of pet odor. The dog kennels are kept outside and it's an average of about 40 degrees outside right now. We walked back to the cat room and the odor got so much worse. Most of the cats had pus coming out of thier eyes and noses. They were drooling nonstop. They were all very lethargic. The cats were either starved for attention or very anti-social. The litter boxes were filled to the brim. The cages were so small that anyone bigger than a kitten was smushed in there. Some of the cages had multiple cats. One had at least 6 in there. The cats were having a hard time breathing. This shelter needs shut down immediately. These animals are dying. I really doubt they are getting adopted. It might be a no-kill shelter, but the conditions they live in is going to end up killing them.
