I waited a month for my quails. I was told she had a waiting list and was hatching in order of the waiting list. I picked up my birds and when I opened the box, I was surprised to see they were all ages and breeds. They were clearly not hatched together. It is not safe to have smaller quails in a box of larger ones as they could hurt them. Also, quails should be kept together for a time to see how they interact and if any are too aggressive. It looked like she just threw whatever she had left in a box and closed it up. With that said, I took what I got and went home. Upon unboxing, immediately I noticed the smallest, white one had an eye infection to the point its eye was crusted shut. I was shocked because she should of seem this and couldn't have happened in a 35 minute car ride. Second, this same quail seemed like it was limping. I thought maybe it was injured in the box since it was so negligently put with larger birds, and so I separated it. I have been able to clear up her eye with care twice a day. As for her leg, it's never gotten better and it's been over a week. It appears she might have been born this way and was handed off to me. Now, I am given the responsibility to keep this bird separated and take care of it like this, which I am not thrilled about, however will absolutely do. A side note, I had messaged her about the eye and leg condition and I was told that no one on her end has any issues and it may have been scratched. She then proceeded to tell me to use Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment, which ironically had readily available to take a photo of... This birds eye was so crusted shut from infection, there is not way possible it could of happened in a car ride. I had to hold a warm compress on it for 10 minutes just to break up the crust to get it open a little bit. As for the leg, I was told she may have jumped and twisted It, however this bird is clearly crippled and not going to get better. Lastly, I had a quail DIE in my hands this morning. The second smaller, white one became lethargic, I separated it and it died fairly quickly. The bird that died and the bird that has the deformed leg appear to be the same age and breed... I think I've said enough there. The remaining four quails appear healthy, for now. With all this said, clearly safe breeding practices are not in place and even the care and handling of the quails is negligent. I do NOT recommend.
