People were friendly and we liked how you were allowed to interact with the cats. Some places like this can be so weird about that, so we were glad that they were cool with it. ?

Absolutely HORRIBLE, they find reasons to kill the animals they have there. They just posted 2 pictures of coyote puppies & was gonna have them killed to get them tested instead of being a good shelter & calling wildlife centers, they also are very discriminating, when it comes to certain people getting animals, they never keep track of everything, a man came in one day with his wife and tried adopting a dog and waited 3 weeks just to find out that the dog was JUST adopted & they told me man and wife that it was never put in the system or called any references, they never called them to let them know until they showed up just to find out the dog was adopted, I do not recommend this shelter to anyone or any animals. They should put the animals in other places and close this place down

Tried to take my granddaughter there to look at dogs but they're only allowing people in by appointment with an application. I understand this but I never saw that information on their website so I wasted gas drivi g there and my granddaughter was really disappointed.

My poor wife went through three weeks of a process to be able to adopt a pet from here. On the day of adoption to only be told that the animal was adopted by someone else. They never called us to let us know. They did not even check our references for the first two weeks. We made an appointment for a specific animal to find out they had no record of our appointment. Of course the person who said it was their job would not take responsibility and actually refused to provide me with the name of a person in charge. My wife has been crying about it for hours. I do not find this process or the outcome acceptable in any way and I will do everything I can to let people know to stay far away from Dessin Animal Shelter.

GET YOUR CAT/KITTEN RETESTED FOR FELINE LEUKEMIA!! We adopted our Morris, a kitten, in September, 2020. Initially he was supposed to be a mouser, and became so much more. Dessin disclosed that Morris had an Upper Respiratory Infection previously, but according to them (and his paperwork) everything was in order and he was healthy. He was the perfect fit for our home and he was the only cat, the very short time we had him. His first check up with the vet, we found out he had ring worm, internal worms, and that Dessin hadn't done his worming schedule or antibiotics properly, so we restarted them. That should have been the first sign.Time went on and we fell in love with his quirky, sweet and loving personality. Spring into June we noticed that he was coughing more. We thought with the URI at a young age, he had asthma. Our vet agreed and inhalers were started. We now realize it was at this time, that he was napping longer. He then took a tumble and had a little cut in his nose, that wouldn't heal. Our vet said it wasn't an infection, though we thought it didn't look right. We went along, noting he was eating less, and was less like Morris.Less than 2 weeks after we saw our Vet, we came home to Morris listless, refusing to eat, his gums and nose almost white. We took him to the emergency vet the next morning, only to be told he had Feline Leukemia. A cat who lived in a home with only one cat- Morris. A cat who NEVER went outside- ever. He didn't want to. The vet told us that Shelters often have volunteers who don't properly understand how to perform these tests and after all- their job is to get the pets adopted- that's it. His blood tests showed that his Leukemia was so advanced, his bone marrow could no longer produce red blood cells. On July 11, 2021 we made the decision to humanely euthanize Morris. He was 15 months old. From what we gather- as advanced as his Leukemia was, he contracted it at Dessin. Save yourself and your family the pain that we have gone through and have your pet re checked, we trusted the paperwork we still have and never had him checked, until it was too late.
