Terrible Experience at Joseph A. Banks in Haverford – Not Recommended for People of Color
I recently visited the Joseph A. Banks location in Haverford and had an extremely disappointing experience. I arrived around 2 p.m. and noticed two younger employees assisting another customer, which was fine—I was comfortable waiting my turn. I was particularly waiting for a young African-American female employee to help me. However, before she could assist me, an older Caucasian male employee rudely interrupted, insisting that he help me instead.
From the moment he began assisting me, his demeanor was rude and sharp. When I asked a simple question about altering the vest, he responded with an attitude, making me feel unwelcome and like I wasn’t being valued as a customer. Rather than providing courteous service, he continued to treat me with disrespect, particularly when I mentioned a payment option I had discussed with the Market Street location the day before. Instead of calmly explaining the store’s policy, he said “I’m the manager”, and lectured me unnecessarily, making the entire interaction unpleasant.
I left the store to gather myself and returned to pay, but the discomfort lingered. I truly believe implicit bias played a large role in how I was treated. This store manager seemed to judge me based on the color of my skin rather than seeing me as a valued customer, and I have no doubt that his attitude would have been different had I been Caucasian and older.
To make matters worse, after I paid and left, I later discovered that they had fitted me for the wrong color suit for the wedding I was attending! Overall, the experience was unprofessional, dismissive, and filled with a lack of care for me as a customer. If you are a person of color, I would strongly recommend avoiding the Joseph A. Banks in Ardmore. You deserve to be treated with respect and professionalism, something I did not experience here.

The store was busy and we waited 15 minutes before a sales person acknowledged us . Finally , Daniel helped out with the purchase of a suit . He was very condescending , had an attitude . Turns out he is the manager !! Didn’t give us a nice suit bag, couldn’t alter the pants for a month , didn’t remove the labels , didn’t open the stitching of the pockets and the jacket flaps .
He was dismissive of our questions . After 20 years of being their customer , NOT GOING BACK ! It was an expensive suit .

Easily the worst retail experience I've had. Came in to make a return and the associate not only refused but was incredibly condescending to the point of accusing me of trying to abuse the return policy claiming I was trying to return a worn suit. She seemingly came to this conclusion as there were creases on the tag attached to the pants which I believe was from the suit being stored inside my luggage during a recent move. She triumphantly declared, multiple times, that she would not be considering my return and that I had "clearly worn" this suit as if this was a big victory for her. The only time I had worn the suit was briefly putting it on at home where I realized the fit was too baggy. I'm not sure how it would be possible to show up to a formal event with tags/barcodes attached and hanging from my pants, tie, vest, and suit jacket like she was confidently suggesting. There was no damage, no stains, smells, etc to suggest any of what she was saying. Not sure if she was having a bad day, but I found it incredibly offensive to stand there and listen to her attempt to poke holes in my story.
Afterwards I called Jos A Bank customer support and explained what had happened. They later called me back saying they spoke to the associate and that unfortunately since they were told the suit was worn nothing could be done outside of attempting to return it at a different store. Are you kidding?
Lastly, the return policy that was printed on the back of the receipt makes zero mention of merchandise being worn or not. In fact, the return policy printed is very liberal and doesn't line up with what the associate was boldly claiming. When I brought this up to a second customer support representative I received no explanation or response for the discrepancy. On top of being incredibly disrespectful to their customers, it seems like Joseph A Bank Employees at this location don't seem to understand their own policies. Luckily I paid via Amex and reached out to them as a last resort.

Store is severely understaffed and has technical issues every time I go there. If you go here plan for everything to take 2x longer than it should.

Wonderful customer service on short notice. I called ahead to confirm they had what I needed and they had it set aside when I arrived. I was leaving directly for an event so the staff took the time to steam my jacket and help me with all the details. The door is on the Main Street so it's a little hard to find if you haven't been before. I will be back again and recommend it to others.

I've been a customer at the Haverford, PA Jos A. Bank store since the early 80's. They always seem to have just the right item that you'll need for an upcoming event. They seem to cater to all ages and lifestyles. From casual clothes to tuxedos, Banks has it all. I try to get to the store seasonally to replace old items or just add some new ones. Clothes seem top shelf tailored at a drastic savings. Not to be missed is the discount rack in the back for really low prices. Staff is very friendly and helpful!! Highly recommended!!

This is my new go to branch. Nancy serviced my friend and I with such warmth from the time we walked through the door until we left. Her expertise and knowledge of the store and merchandise helped us through tough decisions. And, I must add, Nancy's patience was so appreciated. Great choice in hiring this representative for your store! Thank you Nancy!
