I had such a wonderful time! Everything was very close, so it was easy to navigate. There was also a very nice view! The staff were very friendly(shoutout to the one who t-posed with us) and were welcoming!(Edit: a year later. Bread had mold, dishes and utensils are not cleaned properly. I can still see little pieces of food stuck on the forks, spoons, knives, and plates.

Going to this camp is a family tradition literally. My grandmothers family attended, my father, myself, & now my children attend. My grandmothers family the Hykes helped donate towards the new dining hall. I have nothing but good things to say. I enjoyed going many years to overnight camp as a kid. It was always the highlight of the summer. I have fond memories of swimming, capture the flag, chapel, Pete’s cabin, the peanut butter pit, mini golf, and friends from camp. I did my senior volunteer work in the office as well. My daughters currently attend day camp until I feel they are old enough for overnight. They love going and have the best time. I love this camp 10/10 would recommend.

IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CHILDREN, do not send them here. And certainly do not let them work here. Now that I am older and less afraid, I would like to shed light on some of the traumatizing experiences I had at this camp as a worker and counselor. Joy El places a big emphasis on the number of children they can "save" and make Christian. All the counselors are given immense pressure to convert their campers. As a kitchen staff member, I was under severe labor conditions, with minimal breaks, sometimes 5 minute timed meals, and pressure to preform perfectly. I was yelled at several times for simple mistakes or miscommunications that were not my fault. My health was not a priority at all. One time when I had a fever the nurse had me take more than 10 pills a day to try and keep me there, and my parents were never contacted. Over the course of working at this camp, I had severe anxiety and depression. My faith was constantly used to manipulate me and I was called a sinner. I felt like I was worthless. Even after graduating the program, I was harassed relentlessly to continue working there. People met up with me with ulterior motives of trying to persuade me to come back. I was emailed, called, and texted. I was told God's plan was for me to work there and I did not trust in him. Overall, this camp is a large factor in my decision to stop being christian. I hope this review can help stop other children from going through what I did.

They treat their staff terribly. They are manipulative and use the Bible against you. They also overwork their staff. This place needs to be investigated because they are breaking multiple employment practice laws. this place is borderline a cult. They don’t show the children Jesus. They brainwash them. If you choose not to work there for a summer, they guilt trip you, saying “Jesus would want you to help us” Joy el is messed up. DO NOT SUPPORT JOY EL

I really like this place. I have visited it and it seems very cozy. It is a beautiful place to spend time with family, friends, in the presence of my Lord. My Sir. My savior. My Redeemer. I love you Jesús

Dangerous for your kids. Do Not send them without knowing how negligent this place is. They are so disorganized they thought they lost a kid who's parent didn't even bring them that day. They don't know who is working for them, names or who they are. Did not receive proper paperwork from counselors to prove no abuse of children in past and were fine if not received at all. A counselor had to stop a run away go cart from running full throttle into the creek bc it wouldn't turn off. Also had archery available with no overseer and expected inexperienced counselors to teach kids with no prior use or training of bow safety. Do not trust them with your kids

Had an excellent father-daughter weekend. The experience is so rich and deep in relationship building for my daughters and I that we had made an annual tradition to be back. Also my children camp there every summer. Can’t beat spending precious time there. You and your children will grow so much stronger together and deepens your relationship among each other.
