Don't pass up the mushroom soup complete with bread and homemade seasoned butter. Waiter was delightful and setting was warm and friendly with cute plants. Good idea to make a reservation.

While there's no shortage of food and culture within the boundaries of Philadelphia, a complete trip really must continue 45 minutes outside the city to Glen Mills in the Brandywine Valley. Terrain at Styer's, a beautiful gardening and homewares shop owned by Anthropologie, is located here amid stretches of farmland and swaths of upscale shops. Once on the grounds, however, the din of street traffic dulls, supplanted by a sense of calm. From cookbooks and gardening tools to home decor pieces and artisanal comestibles, the highly curated selection of products is enough to court attention for an entire afternoon. But when I go on return trips to Philadelphia, I follow my belly. With hanging bird cages, large plants and rows of cookbooks, the garden café situated at the back of the store feels very much like a literary garden. An oversized chalkboard menu lists the house spritzers, coffees, fresh juices and sweet treats. Several tables are available in this space but opt for a table in the antique greenhouse at the very back, suffused with gorgeous light and lush greenery. The menu is organic and local and changes regularly - more reason to keep returning. Not to be missed: the bulbous brioche loaf served in a flower pot accompanied by the flavored salted butter of the moment. Ideal itinerary: stroll the boutique and outdoor garden, indulge in a fantastic lunch in the café then amble back through the boutique for serious shopping.
