loved our trip to kenya and tanzania with gate 1. its our 17th tour with them and as always everything went like clockwork. amazing guides make the trip and ours were just that. it’s almost like an addiction because i just can’t stop booking more trips. they definitely take the tedious grunt work out of travel. i love that.

We tried to ask for some help for an additional day in front of the trip so we can relax before the cruise and she said it is not in their itinerary. When I suggested that a company like Gate 1 should have some pull considering the business they do she hung up on me. Very insulting and is going to make reconsider future travel with Gate 1. Not impressive.

This was my first experience with Gate one travel. I booked a trip in August 2023 to Ireland leaving in March 2024. A deposit was paid in August 2023. There were 5 in the group. The additional payment was due in December unless we cancelled the trip. Two in the group were 80 and one of them was recently diagnosed with a major health issue in November. My son in law also lost his job in November. Under the circumstances we were not able to go ahead with this trip and Gate One kept our deposit as a cancellation fee. Several calls and emails asking they reconsider were met with the comment that the on line documents stated in the fine print that this was a cancellation fee. The actual language in the summary section calls it a deposit and there was no indication that this was actually a cancellation fee. I suggested they need to fully disclose this upfront as this is misleading. Credit for a future trip would no work as the future for 2 of the 5 in the group have uncertain futures. We will certainly tell all that ask that buyer beware and will not use this travel company in the future.

I paid for an upgraded one stop lay over trip to Italy. Flights were rescheduled numerous times, additional lay over added and trip shortened. Now my departure is late in the day instead of the early the earlier flight I paid extra for and my return was pulled into early morning instead of later in the day. In addition a third flight was added on my return with more than 6 1/2 hours of lay overs. When I called about I was told I could pay nearly half of the amount of the trip to move my flights to be more in line with what I originally booked. No offer to refund the previous up charge either. This is my second and last trip I will ever take through Gate 1.

My husband and I just got back from the 7 day Costa Rica trip. Our tour manager was Luis Cruz and driver was Jose, Both were excellent and passionate about their jobs, Jose took us around safely and relatively smoothly in the bus while Luis was a treasure trove of information on Costa Rica and made sure he coordinated everything like a well oiled machine, we were 40 0f us so it was a large group. The one negative was the bus, the seats were cramped closely and if you are a little taller it’s so uncomfortable and can also cause painful swelling of the feet and ankles which is what happened to us during the ride to Monteverde. The space between seats , in the interest of the customers should be increased especially as we spent a long time on the bus. This is our 6th trip with gate 1 and the first where the bus was this uncomfortable . Also why was wifi not mentioned in this trip. Several customers were complaining about that, my husband and I usually carry our own cellular data so had no problem but that was just us and one other couple. The bus had a clear sign marked on the back glass that wifi available , so they should have provided that information plus the password to the customers.I know the motto for Gate 1 is ‘see the world for less’ but my suggestion to the company is to try not to go too cheap and compromise on the comfort you provide to your customers.

We recently booked an upcoming trip to Japan through Gate1. Three months before departure they changed the itinerary and removed a key sightseeing feature the Bullet train from Nagoya to Kyoto. Unilaterally without explaining and giving us paying customers in the group options to tradeoff. When we complained they were not sympathetic and refused to change back and keep the Bullet train and perhaps remove another stop if time was an issue. As riding on the fastest Nagoya-Kyoto Bulltet train line was a key feature to experience, Gate1 by acting irresponsibly with their paying customers shows they will do what they need to do and cut costs, promises in itinerary be damned. Never take any tours from this operator again. Be warned how they might behave like they did with our group.

This was our 1st Gate 1 tour and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Our tour guide Karen was fantastic as well as well as our city guide in Bogota and Yunty in both Medellin and Manizales. The itinerary was great and we really saw Colombia. Very good mix of free time and touring.

My wife and I have taken a number of trips with Gate One. Generally, the tours are good and a decent value. However, our last tour was to Croatia. My wife was involved in an accident that occurred at one of the hotels Gate One selected. Our bathroom had a tile floor made of very slippery wall tiles; the shower glass door covered only half the area for entry and exit. The tub step-over was high. There were no handles to grasp. Exiting the shower, she slipped on the water covered floor and had a terrible fall banging her head on the floor. Paramedics were called; she spent that night in a hospital. It took over two months for recovery. We never received an apology from Gate One until I had my attorney contact them. Even then, the apology was weak. I suggested to Gate One that they should not use this hotel especially knowing that they cater to older groups. But, Gate One said the hotel meets the safety requirements of Croatia. (Obviously a low bar.) Gate One then offered us $250 off any other tour we might book with them. I told them that their offer was a slap in the face and totally unacceptable. I never heard back from them again. It will be the last time we travel with their company.

Very unprofessional...do NOT recommend...booked a trip recently and paid in full, only for them to come back a few days later and cancel it because they had not booked the hotel room. Already had my flights booked so had to deal with that separately. If there was a company that embodied " you get what you pay for"...THIS IS IT.

My wife and I have taken eight tours (so far) with Gate 1 Travel, and they have all been excellent! I highly recommend them. You see so much on these tours, and the tour directors are outstanding! We especially enjoyed the Canadian Rockies, France, England and Scotland, and Costa Rica. People we meet on the tours also highly praise Gate 1's other tours, including to Europe, Japan and Africa. The prices are excellent and the company is extremely well-run. Gate 1 Travel makes it easy to travel the world and have wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. The Gate 1 website is very good, and includes many videos that will give you a good idea of what you will see on their tours.

Our Trip to Vietnam was thrilling. Our tour Director, Tran, was very knowledgeable of the country's history which enhanced the entire experience. Concluding the trip with a visit to beautiful Halong Bay, a UNESCO site, was the highlight of the trip. Tran went over and above to ensure everyone had a unique and safe experience. We will definitely be using Gate1 Travel for future trips!

No follow up as promised. I gave a bad review of Gate 1 last week due to the bad customer service (and significant financial loss) from a recent Gate 1 trip. They immediately responded that they were sorry to hear this and would pass my information on to customer service so they could make it right. It's a week later and I have heard absolutely nothing. It's obviously just an automated response to make people think they are taking care of it, when in fact, they are blowing their customer off. Never thought I'd say this, but stay clear of Gate 1.
