I originally posted several months ago under my maiden name. Im giving more stars because my dog lucy was well taken care of with her dental health, I loved the vet I saw. They were honest and thorough and the vet was very kind and caring.
The trouble i had was with our senior dog. We brought her in on three separate occasions for blood pressure readings and each time she was reported at 220, on the nose. After the first reading, douglasville had us put Sammy on BP meds. After two weeks on the meds, my husband brought her in and didnt come back with any meaningful information. According to our vet records, her reading that visit was also 220. Sammy was visibly okay at the second reading. But she had been on the BP meds for two weeks and my husband had no idea that her readings had not changed at all.
The final reading was done when our Sam was really starting to decline, and after all those weeks of meds she still had 220 bp reading.
Sammy was hardly functioning after that. I decided to take her off of the BP meds without professional intervention, because she was barely able to walk at this point, and we were readying ourselves for goodbyes. I made the link between the BP meds and her health decline, and I wasnt sure it would solve anything. I just knew i had to try. At the very least, i wanted her to be comfortable.
After taking off the BP meds, we had a single check with our new vet and she read 161-170 (5 readings in one sitting which I was witness to and she was nervous the entire time and shaking in fear by the last reading.) for this reason I truly believe the BP meds were actually causing low blood pressure and we could have lost her. I think you may need some more accurate testing methods, because to have the exact same reading on three separate visits just doesn’t seem feasible, especially given that they were exponentially higher than what she read in the testing I witnessed at our new vet. Mind you, this was a week after we took her off of those BP meds.
Also I’m happy to report that her platelet counts are now normal, as well. I believe the antibiotics you put her own for potential tick borne illness was 100% the right call. I think you just may need some new methods of BP testing because your findings simply don’t equate with her health outcomes from the hypertension treatment and testing results from our new vet. It almost killed her.

Absolutely the best! Dr. Paull saved my dog’s life years ago and did a great job managing his rare and multiple health issues. It was because of him that my dog lived way beyond his life expectancy, considering all of his diagnoses. Tammy and the rest of the staff have always been super kind and treated my dog as if he was their own.

I took my very anxious dog to see Dr. Pangakis for the first time. We were greeted by our nurse, Jamie, who was so extremely kind and understanding. I explained my dog's anxiety and said it was best for very slow introductions and if I can stay with him he would feel better. When Dr. Pangakis came in the exam room, she and Jamie both took their time and made me and my dog feel safe and comfortable. I am beyond pleased with his care.

My family has been taking our dogs and cats here for over 20 years. The staff are very kind. We never had a bad experience. I recently moved out of the area but still drive 35 minutes. They love my animals like they are their own.

We just moved to the Douglassville area and needed to find a vet for our two dogs. We drove past the hospital, and then checked the reviews on line. We decided to give Douglassville Vet Hospital a try. We are so happy we did!! Trish, our nurse, spent so much time reviewing their records and explaining everything my dogs needed. She was kind and caring with both pups. Then Dr. Paull took over and he was so knowledgeable and competent. He took extra time with our 11 year old lab/golden mix because of her age. The visit lasted 1 1/2 hours but I never felt rushed, and every question was answered thoroughly. When it was time to pay the bill, Tammy, the receptionist, was patient and helpful as well. She reviewed the appointment with me and made sure I understood all the charges. I would HIGHLY recommend Douglassville Veterinary Hospital to anyone with pets. We are so thankful we "found" them!

I've been coming here with my 2 cats since we moved to Douglassville last year. Despite one of my cats 'declining her visit' and needing meds to be seen, Dr. Olsen and Trish maintained a professional and light hearted approach. I feel Dr. Olsen is very smart and keeps up with current topics in veterinary medicine. We recently got a puppy and I really appreciated their thorough support beyond just checking his health they offered great advice and support to help us have a smooth transition. Five stars and 2 thumbs up for Trish and Dr. Olsen, as well as the friendly front desk staff!

We rescued our dog from the Douglassville vet hospital 10 years ago and has been in good hands ever since. They truly are the best in Berks!

I think this vet is great for routine work and visits; I feel bad giving this review but my friends have guilted me into it because our experience could help other pet owners decide on the best care for their loved ones.
I also feel a bit guilty because I wasn’t there; my husband was. Our senior dog was seen for a nose bleed and given blood pressure tests and lab work and they put her on BP meds. After a couple weeks, my husband took her back and maybe there was a miscommunication, because he did not know that the meds had not lowered her BP at all and we didn’t find our until her records were gone over with our new vet.
All I know is that my husband was told to come back and do more blood work and possible cancer screenings on our 13 year old dog and he was fed up. In the moment, he felt like they were dismissive of his feelings to treat our senior girl for comfort above all else. He came home very upset and told me this and I made the change to a new vet immediately.
I also made the executive decision to take her off of the BP meds because she had gone from a happy and active girl to a pained and incapacitated one in a matter of weeks. When I brought her to the new vet, they were discussing end of life care. It was that bad.
New vet put her on steroids and as we took her off the BP meds she did a complete 180. She is a happy and healthy old lady and my heart is soaring to have her back. For those few weeks she was on the BP meds she couldn’t even sit up. We thought that was the end.
Thank god it’s not. I love her so much. She never had any major health issues before and we’re going to keep loving our girl as she continues to life a healthy life in her old age.
This vet was kind and sufficient in routine care but it did not go so well with the big stuff. I wouldn’t write them off, but just know that you’re your pets’ biggest advocate and you know them better than anyone else when it comes to their behavioral changes, and that’s a huge indicator of health.
Edit: thank you for the response and clarifications, along with well wishes for Sammy. I’m elated to say that she is almost completely weened off of the steroids and acting like a puppy again, running outside and climbing up and down the stairs. We are so overjoyed with her improvement.
The only other thing that is truly concerning to me, is that she went into your hospital on three separate occasions for blood pressure readings and each time she was reported at 220, on the nose. Dr Metzger and the entire staff at Douglassville Veterinary Hospital are absolutely the BEST health partners for our 3 dogs. Every visit is a special moment in our “kids” lives. They are spoiled with hugs, scratches and peanut butter! I can always rely on them for the best care. Jen, Luz and Kelsie are especially favorite friends of our kids!

We've been coming here for years for all things related to our beloved pal 'Porter'. A couple of months ago, Porter was diagnosed with cancer. Dr. DeWire, Dr Paul, the nursing staff and especially Tammy were the absolute best during a very difficult time for us. Last week Porter lost his battle with cancer and we took him for the last time while he still had his dignity. We cannot say enough about the compassion, professionalism and very caring attitude of Dr. DeWire and Dr. Paul. They were kind, and more importantly candid with us throughout the process towards the end. Porter was lucky to have them as his care team. Thanks to the entire team at Douglassville Vet Hospital for their kindness and love towards Porter and to Sue and myself. We are thankful.

Great place to take your animals. They try to push extra things on to increase your bill I'm not about that. I understand it's for your pets health but if there is no need don't push it. Alot of people are struggling
