full disclosure, I did not stay at the lodge, my wife and I never made it past check in. The lady at the front desk was very rude and snarky. One of the main reasons we wanted to stay there was the restaurant, we had eaten there before on a previous trip to the area and thought we'd like to come back again and stay at the lodge. During check-in, I said we would be back down for dinner after we take our bags to the room. The lady at the desk immediately says, " you can't, we're full, you didn't make a reservation." there had been some confusion over the "special menu" that was offered that weekend, unbeknownst to us the " special menu" was the only thing you could get. so as I am trying to explain to her the confusion about the restaurant, she just keeps talking over me, " we called, we sent e-mails, it's on our website", I couldn't get a word in. so I grabbed our room key and headed out the lobby, wife following a few steps behind, and then the lady at the desk yells, " if you wanna leave I'll give you a refund and you can go somewhere else! " it's 7pm, we just drove 4 hours to get there, and this hotel concierge offers to send us away! that actually upset my wife enough that after a quick discussion, we took her up on her offer, got a refund, and drove 4 hours back home that night. what also blows me away is that nobody from the hotel contacted me to find out what happened. refunds is not their policy, somebody in management should have been awfully curious as to why they gave someone a full refund at 7pm on the day they checked in.

My wife and I had a fantastic experience at Gateway. From early on while booking and the communication beforehand, the arrival and during our stay, everything was perfect. The hospitality, attitude, service and friendliness of the staff at the lodge was top notch! Specifically Beth and Mike, they made us feel like friends, not just customers. The cabin was clean, comfortable and completely met or exceeded our expectations. Thank you all for a great weekend.

My husband, friend and his children found this lodge after being accidentally locked out of our cabin down the road. We found them accidentally while looking for cell service and they could not have been more helpful. They helped us contact the owner of our cabin, made the kids feel comfortable and allowed us to stay there until we were able to access our cabin that we booked through another company down the road. We could not be more grateful for their hospitality and would love to come visit again.

Gateway Lodge isn't a normal stay. From the moment we checked in with Beth and Paige we were taken care of. This isn't a chain hotel, this is an experience. Their attention to us from food selections for breakfast and dinner, to their conversations when we just stopped by the front desk were beyond anything you'd get at a Hilton, Marriott, or a Holiday in.The area is quiet (and has quiet hours), is far enough off the road where you don't hear road noise, AND has nature sounds playing throughout the lodge. The warmth of the fireplace(s) and the wood build, along with the stone work provide that exceptional get away feel.Mike and Rob in the dinning area are super friendly. Once you meet someone there it's very easy to have conversation and be friendly. Everyone is exceptionally approachable, and never make you feel like you're putting them out (even if you are). The wife and I did the Taste of the Wild dinner with the wine pairing and Rob was exceptional with his story telling of the various wines and how they went with the particular dish that was being served. Mike was SUPER attentive to my wife's dietary needs (Gluten Free) and ensured that we knew we were taken care of.The room was spotless, the jetted tub was amazing, and the fireplace in the room made a phenomenal experience. The shower water is soft and the bed was super comfortable. The only reason their not 5 stars is for a lack of pool, and no gym/business center, but this is 100% a 5 Star experience (you're not coming here for swimming/printers anyways). Look forward to staying again and I hope my photos show just a glimpse of what there is.Rooms: Super comfortable and quiet. Balcony or Porch with every room and surrounding nature make it a perfect get awayFood & drinks: The food was amazing. From their Gluten Free Pizza to their Taste of the Wild dishes 10/10

Julie and I had a fantastic visit. Everyone we met was kind and informative. They helped us find great hikes in the area. This may have been our best getaway ever. The room was great. Food was good. We had a fantastic wine experience. We will be returning!

What a fabulous resort staffed by wonderful people. Having been born into a hospitality industry family, as my mother would say, these folks have a 'hospitality personality'; the mentality for hospitality success. From the homemade breakfast delivered to our room daily, to the delighful dinner served with a perfect wine pairing, to the treats that welcomed us in our room. All the little things gave the perfect touch. My wife and I loved 'disconnecting' from technology (although we did watch the Browns lose using their internet and our laptop) and truly enjoying eachother. We played board games, tasted delicious wine, ate world class food, and truly felt part of the Gateway Lodge family. Never once did we feel like strangers, rather friends that hadn't been met, yet. Will we visit again? Indeed, we will. Maybe next month. Thank you, Gateway Lodge staff for welcoming us to your delightful experience. Cheers!

Wonderful place to stay. Gets you away enough to destress and release tension while still being close enough to all things to do.The cars that pass by are not that numerous so it’s not pesky to hear. The convenience of it being right off a major route cannot be expected to be silence. The food is impressive and wildly satisfying. It’s not cheap but you shouldn’t be coming here expecting a cheap meal. Expect quality and wholesome. The staff are always ready to help and be accommodating. I came here in 2012, 2020 and 2023. All times I was greated with smiles and different people, all friendly and polite. They have upgraded the gravel drive and lots to concrete now so that’s nice.We stayed in the king suite overlooking the valley which is so worth it. Request it. The balcony makes morning coffee and breakfast so nice. And a glass of wine or whiskey on the balcony at night is so calming.Couple things I would recommend to the owners is to upgrade the coffee makers in the room. And maybe have extra nice soft blankets in the room during winter to have cold people (the wife) wrap up in on the loveseat/balcony.Also the wine pairings are flawless for dinners… for wine drinkers. The wife has an affinity for dry wines and was in love with all the wines that were presented. I’m a whiskey drinker and only really liked the dessert wine that was paired with the bourbon bread pudding and ice cream. Personally, I think there should be a wine sommelier and a whiskey specialist to help pair two options with each course. The wine heightened my wife’s entire dinner, but it didn’t do much for mine. However if I had a strong Angel’s Envy single barrel or Four Roses with my steak that would open a whole new palate. Open with a light Irish whiskey like Redbreast and close with a Knob Creek Small Batch smoked maple. *Chefs kiss*Just something to think about, get some people like me roped in tighter.Rooms: Quaint, cozy, accommodating. The bathroom was nice and convenient and the jacuzzi hit the spot. The balcony that overlooks the valley is so nice to sit on for morning coffee and breakfast. The cars that past by are not that numerous so it’s not pesky to hear. The convenience of it being right off a major route cannot be expected to be silence.Food & drinks: Splendid, wonderful, magnificent attention to detail food and courses. We had Saturday reservations with live music and it was soft and romantic. The wine pairings were actually perfect. The 18yr barrel aged dessert wine was delightful. The steak was cooked immaculately and the sweet course endings were mouth watering. It’s not cheap, but quality isn’t.

Loved this place. Service was amazing, food was great. My room had a cute little cafe table. But for a 3 night stay was impractical. Need more flat surfaces.Nearby activities: So many beautiful hiking trails. Some cute little country bars nearby for quick lunches. Great area.Food & drinks: The wild mushroom crepes were my favorite
