I sent Dave a message through his website about trying to find shims for a transmission im building that I can’t find anywhere else. He responded immediately the next morning and told me to stop by the shop and he’d help me out. When I got there he let me rummage through a box of parts he had accumulated over the years to find what I needed. Half the places I reached out to either sent me on a wild goose chase or didn’t even respond but Dave took the time to help me out. 10/10 would recommend!

Dave is a great guy. I got my entire transmission rebuilt by him and he was very open to show what was going on and all that.
Shortly after my driveshaft went on another truck and he was more than willing to guide me through all the parts I needed to purchase and let me get them myself to be installed

I write this review 14 months after my initial contact with and service from Dave's Transmission. In fall of 2022 my 2017 Ridgeline was having transmission issues with rough shifting both accelerating and decelerating.. Against my better judgement I did allow the dealership to do a three part fluid change. This softened the problem temporarily but then it returned even worse in late winter-early spring 2023. Brought it back to the dealership and their response was to state that I needed a new transmission ($8k). I'm no fool nor am I that gullible. I contacted Dave's Transmission in April, 2023. Before he even looked at the vehicle he asked met to provide a detailed timeline of my transmission problems in writing and, if possible, any service receipts for and work done on the Ridgeline. I did both. He reviewed all the information carefully. We made an appointment to have Dave and his team look at the vehicle. He was honest and open from the start. He needed the truck for multiple days and would report back. They ran diagnostics, drove the vehicle and it turns out that I did not need a new transmission. Upon picking up the truck Dave explained everything that was done to the vehicle. He was straight forward with his information and opinions which I very much appreciated. He explained that I did not need a replacement transmission now. He stated that I may need a new transmission down the road but for now......he was confident that I had a reliable vehicle. FYI, if I did need a new transmission the cost would have been significantly less money if Dave's did the work. btw, years ago Dave did replace a transmission for us in our 97 Dodge Caravan (pretty common for that vehicle). Fast forward to July 1st, 2024. Checked in with Dave to ask if he felt that I should bring the Ridgeline in for a check prior to heading on vacation to Cape Hatteras. He asked a few questions about the trucks performance and in the end he basically said, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". He already had my trust and I would have gladly given him my money to "check" the vehicle. But he didn't go for the money. He gave his best advice and saved me some coin. Dave is honest and knows his business. I highly recommend Dave's Transmission.

I am thrilled to have finally found my new mechanic. When my car broke down, I had it towed to Dave's Transmission and Auto Repair and the entire experience was painless from start to finish. Dave clearly communicated the issues to me, and was very prompt and responsive with his service. I picked up my car and drove away feeling assured and relieved. Dave even followed up with me the next day to ensure that my car was alright and that I was satisfied with their service. I received some of the best customer service here that I've experienced in a long time. I am definitely bringing my car here for my future inspections and car repairs! Thank you, thank you for your service! Dave's is a top notch business.

For the record I rarely write a bad review on google. This was a situation that I felt compelled to write a review to warn others. I was in a situation where many dashboard lights relating to the brakes and tires were coming on. I knew I was due for brakes. Unfortunately, I was not able to go to my trusted mechanic because he was on vacation at the time. I couldn’t wait a week for my trusted mechanic to return from vacation. I found Dave’s on google and the reviews were strong. What could go wrong?
When I called, I mentioned to Dave that I believed the problem to be a broken sensor. I dropped the car off. When I called later the tech informed me that the car was in the middle of emissions, and they would need to keep the car a second day because it needed brakes. I was aware that it would probably need brakes and I was due for an inspection in a month, so I said OK proceed. To be clear I never brought the car in to be inspected. That is something they started on their own. This was a red flag that I should have seen but I gave them the benefit of the doubt.
I receive a call the next day that the job is done. They say they have “cleared the lights” on my dashboard, inspection, replaced a headlight, and did front and back brakes. They also said instead of buying new rotors they cut and resurfaced the old ones. Dave explained that he did this because he didn’t want to use “cheap Chinese parts.” The problem with this is I was never consulted about what I wanted. It’s dishonest to just go with the way more expensive option without running it by the owner of the car. I then asked how much the job would cost. He said $2221.61. This was for inspection (which I didn’t even put on the key drop envelope as something that I wanted to be done), replacing a headlight, front and rear brakes. To be clear my rotors were not replaced they were resurfaced. The charge for resurfacing was way more time consuming and costly than buying new rotors. My car is a 2017 Honda CRV not an antique or anything fancy. They charged $125 for putting in a headlight (that doesn’t even include the headlight itself). I watched a video on YouTube where it can be done in five minutes without removing anything under the hood. They wrote in their notes they had to take something out and it was time consuming. Here is full breakdown of the bill.
Parts: PA sticker $11, Headlight $36.95, Front brake pads $179.95, 2 Front brake rotors resurfaced and cut $150, Rear brake pads $169.95, 2 rear brake rotors cut and resurfaced $150, 4 cans of cleaner $18, 1 misc shop supplies $40, for a grand total for parts at $755.85.
Inspection and Emissions $105
Labor: $1340.00 to do an inspection, replace front and rear brakes, and a headlight.
Sales Tax $125.76
Grand Total $2221.61
And now here is the best part. I drove it home and all was good. I started the car up the next morning and all the lights were back on in the dash. The thing I originally brought the car in for wasn’t even fixed. I called Dave and he had me bring the car back. It was then determined that the back wheels had defective speed sensors. After all this the reason the car needed to be fixed was never even addressed. They thought by changing the brakes that would remedy the problem. But in my experience a sensor doesn’t just fix itself. Dave did offer to replace the speed sensor with no charge on labor. He said to call him when I was able to find the part. I will not be coming back. Now I need to pay someone else even more money to finally fix the original reason for taking my car to a mechanic. CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED! THIS IS A SHOP TO AVOID!

Dave will get ALL of my business moving forward! Here's Why...When I had difficulty with my brakes, Dave drove me back to my house, safely got my car to his garage and did a total diagnostic. He determined that my repair should be covered by factory warranty due to an active recall for the part causing this issue. Dave helped determine the issue and well as a solution that wouldn't cost me any money and asked for nothing in return. Dave didn't know me from Adam and did all this out of kindness and wanting to help someone out he just met. I want to let everyone know that this is the type of above and beyond customer care and service you will get from Dave. Thank you Dave for all your help, I greatly appreciate it! I will be coming to you with any future repairs because I know you're honest and always put customers first!!!!!

Dave's Transmission has been doing a great job keeping my older car in good running condition!
Recently, my car had an oil leak and Dave resolved the problem. I have been to other mechanics that kept "finding" problems - yet never resolve the issue. Dave takes the time to figure out what's wrong and fixes the problem.
I plan to keep my car for a long time and keep going to Dave's for maintenance and repairs.

Dave has been taking care of my mini van for routine maintenance and inspections. He most recently replaced my tires, brakes and rotors. He takes the time to explain everything, and he is meticulous in his work! Dave also repaired my father’s catalytic converter after another shop had completely misdiagnosed the problem. I highly recommend Dave’s Transmission and Auto Repair if you are in search of a reliable, skilled and honest mechanic.

Dave is for the working man, my transmission fluid was leaking like sieve 3:30 pm Thursday I drove my car in & I explained I need my car for work the next day & basically live paycheck to paycheck. Dave had his mechanic pull it in the bay & quickly diagnosed the problem fixed it sent me on my way at a price more then reasonable. No other shop would of done what Dave did for me, I'm indebted to Dave & his mechanic. Thank you Dave your an honest man.
