I received grocery delivery from here twice. First time the packer did a good job, but the delivery person who is subcontracted out through Shipt missed 2 bags. The manager personally delivered them on her way home. Way to go Weis!!! Second time on delivery, Cindy was the packer. She called multiple times to check every part of the order. She works M-F she said. She got the best meats and produce. Much better than anything I am used to for remote service. She even called to clarify things that were confusing. I can't speak well enough about these folks. From the manager (she is amazing) to Cindy (she is amazing also). You all deserve an award for the work you are doing during COVID.

With strong competition from another supermarket across the street, Weis plays the game strong with a very large floor plan. The usual departments, but I spotted a lot of variety. Dry goods, which was my destination tonight had quite a few different sizes and brands for the three items I needed. Prices ranged from cheap to high with the lower priced items being plenty good enough for what I needed. Impressive butchery department and the dairy aisle seemed to go on for miles. Despite a major rain going on, the cart corrals were clear and the floors were dry. I don't know if it's pronounced "Whys" or "Weeese" or what.

This Weis location was renovated a few years ago, so it may be a little better than these older reviews from 2008 indicate. Still, you're better off at Giant. The physical building is nice enough. They have a pharmacy, deli, bakery, and all of the same stuff Giant does, but the merchandise simply isn't that good. I bought a Weis baked apple pie there not too long ago (called a "Sky High Apple Pie"), and it was very dry. The apples also had a weird, almost styrofoam-like consistency, probably from being so dry. I also bought chicken there recently, the kind packaged by the butcher with sauce already added to it. I don't know if they were simply trying to get rid of their old chicken or what, but under the sauce was clearly old chicken not fit for sale. I refuse to buy anything from their meat department now. If Weis isn't having a sale on something pre-packaged, it's not worth the trip.

I have a soft spot for Weis, having worked there as a youth (though not at this particular one), but they do need to get their act together. Weis does, or did, have some redeeming qualities. But they are rapidly getting squeezed out between the better service and selection of Giant/Martin's and the better bargain potential of SuperWalmart. And it doesn't help that their customer service sometimes can approach nil. I know why: their older, experienced "career" people are back in the meat, produce or seafood section, but the "face of the store" that customers see are the little high schoolers working the registers. And they frequently don't give a rat's a** about you or your problems, nor do they often have intellectual horsepower to decipher the ever-more computerized registers or the more esoteric varieties of produce that you may have selected. So, in the interest of self-preservation, I suggest that Weis start paying a little more for better quality of labor, or it may be joining the likes of Carmack-Jay's and Pantry-Pride in the grocery store graveyard.
