Terrible customer service. Nelsa needs to be fired. Please do not take your pet here. I pray the poor animals here are being taken care of like they should bc the lack of compassion nelsa had towards customers and when she handled the stray I took in was terrifying.

I am amazed at how terrible a place this is. Nelsa was the rudest person I have ever met. To be in a profession and think someone can be employed there with this attitude is frightening. I would never leave my animal there for any type of care! We also contacted the bbb to report this employee. They need to fire her.
Also here’s a tip. Since you have to test the cats with the dogs for adoption why not test the employees with people skills and animals care!!!! He degree of the lack of care from employees here disgusts me

Ok so my friend also posted a review but I wanted to tell my side aswell. To start off I have really bad anxiety and stress to the point where if it gets bad enough I will have a seizure its rare but has happened. My doctor recommended to get a puppy as a emotional support dog to help me relieve my stress and to have my own little best friend. So I went to somewhere I trusted to get an animal from which was LVHS.
When I got there I met my first puppy I fell in love with. He was perfect and I fell head over heels in love with him. I said I wanted to move on to adopt him and they put in that he was adopted by my Fiancee and I and we left. 2 days later I get a call saying they cat tested him and he failed. Also yes I do have cats I have 4 of them. I adopted 5 but one of them ended up moving with my friend since the cat obviously made more of a connection with her and I never wanted to split that up. So now I have my four cats and thats it.
I went back to the Humane society and I understood what happened and I kept looking meanwhile my friend found a puppy he wanted and they gave his puppy away aswell and said its because my original dog wasnt a good fit which makes 0 sense. Anyways while looking for a new puppy I was pulled aside by one of the employees and was publicly humiliated by them and them saying to me that I didnt think this through with the cats and I was in other terms being "irresponsible" which really hurt...
Well I found this other puppy and fell even more in love with this one than I did the others and went to adopt the pup. Well I went down to show my Fiancee the new furbaby and I get told by this really rude employee that im not allowed to see the puppy without a specialist there as if I would do something WHICH I WOULD NEVER. I left the place and broke down in my car because now this is the 3rd time they have humiliated me for nothing. I really don't understand anymore I was just trying to find my best friend and I ended up breaking down and having several severe panic attacks from this situation. I just wish the humane society could do better... especially with the pups because this is ridiculous and let me make something clear I WOULD NEVER HARM AN ANIMAL EVER THAT IS A HORRIBLE THING TO DO AND THE THOUGHT THAT THEY ARE PUSHING THAT ON ME SOMEONE WHO WAS AN AVID SUPPORTER HURTS. Please do better..

A friend of mine wanted a puppy, yet 3 different times, the people at the humane society practically un-adopted the dog and told them no. The Humane society even flagged their account for "Abusive behavior" when I have only witnessed my friend show unconditional and undying love towards the pups. Ridiculous how I've also WITNESSED a worker try and "Cat test" a dog to see how it is with them, only to walk the dog into the lobby, chat with some coworkers, then tell the front desk "Not good with Cats" without even testing it. There have been times we waited THIRTY (30) MINUTES to walk a dog because people werent responding to the request from up front to meet with the dog.
Another important thing that stuck out to me was, The only dogs who were "Good with cats" or "good with small animals" were dogs under a year old. Seems kind of weird that EVERY dog in an entire shelter would be hostile towards cats and smaller dogs, but what do I know?
There's also the issue of the conduct of some of the staff. On multiple occasions, I witnessed my friend being pulled aside IN PUBLIC, and SHAMED for trying to adopt a dog when she already owned a few cats. Not told politely, I mean asked "What were you thinking?" And chastising her PUBLICLY. I've witnessed my friend break down crying multiple times because of how the staff has spoken to or about her. There's probably ONE nice guy working the front desk, but that's about it. Other than him, everyone has either treated me and my friends HORRIBLY or like we've never seen a dog before. I have literally never seen worse customer service or self awareness from a shelter to this degree.
If I could rate 0 stars, I would. The worst part is? This is only about half of all the stuff I have to say on the matter.
P.s. - I advise wearing a gopro or a voice recorder every time you enter, so you can hold them accountable.

October 28th 2024 came here to adopt a cat. We got one with beautiful blue ? Eyes. he has all his shots , He has been spaded. He is definitely a mouser. He is friendly and purrs a lot and he loves Cat toys. We paid an adoption fee, plus $20.00 for a reusable plastic cat carrier to take him home. If you are looking for a Cat or kitten perhaps a Dog. This is the place to go . Look on their website for an adoption form to fill out. After go to this place sign into the book and start walking though different rooms until you find the cat that makes you happy. In each room you will see a book that has information on each animal within the room. My advice once you see a cat you like look into the book to see if it's pending on adoption. This place also accepts donations . Free parking lot available. Very clean and caring shelter for animals. Good luck. Look for hour of operation on the website.

I adopted an amazing dog from this shelter last year- she is the love of my life. Ever since, I have donated binfuls of blankets and dog beds on several occasions. The other day, I went back in to possibly adopt a deaf dog who was being overlooked. She looked so incredibly sad, and my reaction was to touch & comfort her by sticking my fingers through the 1/2 " crack in the kennel door. All of a sudden, a tall man with a black beard (later identified as the manager, Jo Irizzary) & booming loud voice behind me starts loudly yelling , "M'am, m'am can you not do that?!" I spun around, confused, not knowing what "that" was. I asked, "what am I doing?" He began scolding me, giving me a long dissertation about the contract I signed when I walked in the door and that I shouldn't touch the dogs. His tone was hostile, completely unacceptable and extremely offensive. Ok, fine if I'm wrong I'm wrong, by why are you scolding me, I asked? I certainly wasnt intentionally trying to break any rules. He denied scolding me but then tried to defend his actions by sarcastically stating "Well, would you rather get bit? " I replied that I would rather not be treated as a child. So I say to this "gentleman", and I use the term loosely: Guess what? I'm a 52 year old reasonable woman, not a child and if I'm doing something wrong I would appreciate you respectfully (key word RESPECTFULLY) telling me so. I want to follow the rules and do what is right by these homeless animals. However, your lack of professionalism and bad attitude makes me wonder how you treat the defenseless animals you are supposedly "caring" for, especially if you can't even show potential adopters any respect or dignity. In the end, YOU are representing these animals, and may very well be the difference in whether or not they get adopted. In the meantime, I will continue to donate whatever supplies I can because it is not the animals' fault for your inappropriate, abrasive, & unprofessional behavior. Based on other reviews around the web, this behavior clearly is not new and you could definitely benefit from a class or 2 in learning positive and productive customer service skills. Otherwise, many animals under your "care" may be deprived of getting great homes because of your poor treatment of adopters who possess only good intentions for the animals. I do want to give a shout out to the people there who are kind and caring. Not everyone behaves in such a shameful manner. Thank you to Jahnessa, Jarid, and Lucas and others whose names I cannot recall, for being great advocates & heroes for the animals. It does not go unnoticed and is appreciated by animal lovers across the Valley!

They no longer provide care like they did in 1995, they expanded their capacity but they do not provide veterinary care for dogs. DON'T GO. They no longer have a veterinarian to care for sick dogs.

It is so good to see this place BUSY! Employees & Volunteers at front desk are juggling adoptions, and phone calls all while professionally handling people coming in every 10 minutes with an animal they found on the streets and I'm sure so much more that goes into this place. Keep up the great work guys, those precious babies rely on you!
