They don't always have what's on sale at the store, but thank goodness for this store not being a football stadium's length away from the road to have to walk to! So it's becoming my go-to store for the weekly specials and whatever else I need.

Wow, I go here every day and will never return. The older lady running the self checkout has no respect for customer service or customers. She sat there talking to some person the whole time and was not watching the machines. I walked up and started my self checkout, and after paying noticed it was $30+ when I estimated $20, I paid and walked out of the store. I started to look at my receipt as I walked outside and noticed two items I did not pay for was on my receipt. I went to customer service and waited for the girl to come back from break. Then when I explained that situation she said, “what, how is that even possible”.
So right away she just accused me of walking out with objects, putting them in my car, and coming back in to get my money back. I then get irritated and said “what do you mean, what do you mean.” The. She begins to tell me how she just got off break and she didn’t deserve my attitude.
Well, you just accused me of stealing, after I waited over five minutes.
Then the other lady from the self cash out said she could just handle it over at the self checkout. She specifically said she could not help me earlier and that is why I was waiting for the girl to get off break.
She then asked what happened and I told her that she said “what, how is that even possible”. And I got irritated and did apologize if I seemed irritated, but accusing me of trying to steal should not be taken lightly.
But then the self checkout lady, in explaining that someone was not paying attention to the machines and let someone leave and she got very offended. She then began rudely defending herself about he doing so many things at once, yet she was talking to the same lady when I went up to the register, and when I came back in for customer service.
Needless to say, I use to shop here every day, and I will never shop here again.

UPDATE: Albertsons was never great but with the change to Safeway now it really sucks, especially the deli. Even though Fred Meyers is 3 mi away where this is just up the street, I will gladly go to Fred Meyers.
Great neighborhood Troutdale store. It's not a behemoth at all but has pretty much everything you need.

The younger chick with the blue hair in the deli is a miserably rude little brat.

I do not recommend this location if you are black or any other minority for that matter as racial profiling is a thing. I've voiced several complaints to management about the gentleman at self-checkout who's name I believe is Benny. I suffer from social anxiety which makes shopping a stressful ordeal - my goal is to get in and out as quickly as possible. I always choose self-checkout and if I have alcohol in my cart, I scan that first, so the attendant can come assist me at that time then I can move on with bagging my items and paying. On two separate occasions once when there was NO ONE in the store I scanned my alcohol first - Benny walked over and told me he'd wait to check my ID at the end. I was the ONLY PERSON at the checkout why wait? I left it alone. I revisit this location on a different day and there he is again - refusing to check my ID until I was ready to pay for my groceries. I spoke to management who confirmed he should NOT be doing that. Customers may scan and present their ID at any point of the checkout process. There is no posted policy or signage stating customers must wait until ALL GROCERIES ARE SCANNED to show ID. Management said they'd address that with him. Well fast-forward to today - he refused to check my ID this time stating that he would wait until I was done scanning everything because he needed to make sure I was going to pay before he could check my ID. As a black person, having him state his self-prescribed policy in front of a store full of white customers was not only embarrassing it was also infuriating. So, we just openly need to make sure minorities are going to pay? Once again. I approach customer service where it was again confirmed that there is no such policy, the associate then calls over a manager whose name tag did not state her title so as far as I know she was just a shift supervisor. I tell her there is no signage stating this new check-out policy and I don't see him telling any of the non-minorities to wait to have their ID's checked, so I feel his preferential ID checking procedure is racially motivated. Considering the number of times I've experienced this and approached "management," I can only assume that Safeway and its subsidiaries are complicit in the manner with which their associates handle people of brown and black decent and I advise you to shop elsewhere.

They don’t stock all the time. Employees are great. The only problem I have is with Darrell M., one of the survivors I believe. He makes me and my family very uncomfortable. He will stare at us while we check out. He’s even stood next to me while checking out. He’s very rude! Do better Darrel!

Love this store!. My partner and I love stopping by and saying hi while doing our shopping. The customer experience of both the Safeway and the built in Starbucks is really nice. To those who feel this store is/ was a bad experience, I implore you to shop at the one off of 122nd in Portland. That'll change your mind real quick, that experience was terrible. Security eyeballing you, giant windows boarded up because they had been shattered. I felt very unsafe there. This store in Troutdale is how a store should look and feel.

Good grocery store with good products, EXCEPT, nearly every time we use the rewards card, clip and use digital coupons, we do not get the discounted prices and we need to hold everyone up in line going through the receipt with the checker while they review and resolve the issues. Can't Safeway make their app and coupon process work better & reliably? Or go back to paper coupons where we can see them being scanned?

Employees treat paying customers horribly. I have experienced the worst customer service on multiple occasions, each with a different employee. On one occasion, an employee had her cashier check-stand light on, but she was turned around and chatting with another employee- I began to load my groceries onto the belt, and the cashier scowled at me and said “the other registers were open too, why did you come to mine?!”. On another occasion, a cashier was upset about something and was violently slamming my groceries into the shopping bags. They constantly pile seasonal items outside the front doors, which block the sidewalks from being wheelchair accessible- pushing those customers with disabilities into the path of moving cars. Finally, a group of employees were all gathered at the exit, video recording a woman who had just stole a shopping cart full of items and was loading it into her car. As they stood there video taping the woman who was already out in the parking lot- they were blocking the exit from paying customers from leaving.
