Worst experience ever! They hurt my dog! I took her in for a pre-check for dental as she has a bad tooth. She is 12 lbs and was excessively restrained for a prolonged period. The female assistant had my dog in a choke hold in the exam room and I had to literally PULL her arms from around my dogs neck and chest. They took her in back for an X-ray and simple blood draw (which she has had before without incident). I could hear her screaming and crying for a long time then her cries trailed off and silence. The vet came in and stated "her tongue was turning blue so they had to give her oxygen". (Also NEVER happened before).
When the assistant came in with my dog she had lost control of her bowel & bladder(never happened before) and the assistant said "I'm just gonna GIVE you this towel" as she shoved my dog into my lap with the soiled towel. My dog was in shock. She shivered, was confused, snapped at me and bit me whenever I even touched her (NEVER happened before). She was traumatized! Their treatment of my little dog was appalling. $356-later and she is not getting her dental addressed and will never see that vet again. I called to let them know that that assistant needed to be trained in proper and compassionate restraint and was argued with, they denied everything, tried to say my dog has been aggressive at other vet offices and vet hospital (not true). In a nutshell, they blamed my dog for being choked and manhandled by staff.
If you love your pet, Don't go to this place!!

They would not see my cat because they said they were booked out 6 weeks, but told me to go to Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty Center who after 30 minutes of being there they killed my cat and charged me $1000. They probably get a kickback - do not trust this place.

It has been several years since a vet at Best Friends pushed me to euthanize my cat. My poor kitty struggled against it. She ran away. I was crying. The vet should have said it was okay to wait. I've since worked with vets much wiser and now know the process is supposed to be smooth and gentle. I write this so they might learn something. If a cat and owner are not ready or seem highly confused, tell the owner it's okay not to proceed. I would have gladly paid the fee and waited until my cat and I were ready. This traumatic experience has haunted me for years. Here's the kicker. This vet was not my normal vet. She knew nothing of my cat's medical history. She just seemed in a rush to do it and leave.

Switched from MV because the new operators just sent me sales mail constantly. This Vet actually came out and spoke to me. All my fur babies are here now.

Yesterday, March 10,2023 I made an initial appointment for one of my 4 Alaskan Malamutes with Best Friends. Initial visits are $60; about the same as my long-time veterinarian, Animal Hospital of Grants Pass (AHGP)...today I cancelled this appointment. Unlike Dr. Webster at AHGP, who admits animals and owners inside to consultation/treatment rooms now that officially the COVID19 epidemic is over, Best Friends only offers "curbside" appointments. I don't mind "curbside" when ordering a burger from some fast-food burger joint, but I draw the line with curbside animal care...not my animals anyway! I see such impersonal care from out in the parking lot, instead of inside the clinic as purely a business decision; cutting quality of care inside the office replacing it for curbside care, to me is not much different than my doctor's appointments being out in the parking lot instead of inside his office. Now that COVID19 is mostly behind us, with few exceptions masks are no longer required in public places, even at the local 24-hour emergency veterinarian facility. And even where masks are still required medical care is not rendered in parking lots! "Wear masks, but come on inside." Thus I see this "curbside only" as a business decision, decreasing in-office quality of care exchanging it for squeezing in a few more patients out in the parking lot each day. Possibly this fast-food approach to care for their animals is acceptable to most folks around here...not for me, and definitely not for my furry family members!

Today, I drove 40 mins to what I thought was going to be my puppies first visit. When I arrived the parking was was nearly empty, I arrived early and with an anxious puppy and the thought of possibly having to do paperwork, I decided to go in early. There was a young lady with short blonde hair that was startled by entrance. She walked around the desk and asked if my dog was “coco”. I looked at her funny and said “No, this is Nellie” she said “oh” and got quiet as she got back on her computer. Zero personality! Then Eric approaches my dog and I and asks what he can do to help, and I repeated again Im here for a new puppy visit. He proceeded to hand me a mask and says that they are asking everyone to remain in their cars and someone will be out to retrieve the animal and once the visit is completed the animal will be brought out to me. So..let me get this straight, I have to remain in my car when it’s 100 degrees out, let some stranger take my scared 16 week old puppy and let you give it shots without any informed consent and have no opportunity to discuss any of my concerns or questions!? Absolutely not! That blows my mind that this establishment thinks that is any level of care. Eric tried to explain that they have strict protocols due to having 2 outbreaks within the clinic and 2 more people out sick today. That just confirms that the level of sanitation has dropped just like customer service did. I wouldn’t recommend this establishment to my worst enemy.
