“As the director of Adventure! Children's Museum, I've had the opportunity to work with Urban Lumber Company on two different projects.
In 2018, they worked with us to create a sunken ship play structure, a pirate ship, made from salvaged trees and other found objects. The project was outside their typical furniture builds, so they ended up doing a lot of research into materials, patiently waiting for engineer's drawings and city inspections to ensure the structure could be safely installed. After building it in sections in their shop, they disassembled it, drove it to our location, and carefully installed it in less than a day. It's a favorite at the children's museum six years later.
In 2023, I contracted with ULC to create a new entrance gate for us, providing a sketch for inspiration. Using salvaged lumber from a deconstruction, they created a beautiful new entry gate with a ton of charm and character. We get compliments on the new entry gate a couple of times per week. The crew that brought it upstairs and delivered it really went above and beyond and we couldn't be happier!
