The Human Biology science curriculum is perfect for the homeschool mom who needs something their child can work on independently. Clear illustrations and crisp writing, along with a student-led checklist and supplementary flash cards all come together to create a simple, yet effective way to independently learn about the human body.

I tried out The Fabulous Human body for my 9 year old and fell in love with this curriculum! The curriculum is very straightforward, but also full of information and does a great job going outside the bounds of what the anatomy is so that it triggers to help them remember the things that they’re learning! It’s An excellent Curriculum to start Practicing independent learning with great checks for them to be accountable for what they’ve learned and what they remember! I’m definitely looking forward to starting her on another subject!

I came across Heron Books by accident but decided to give them a try. I was intrigued by the independent learning focus of their science books. We homeschool with a focus on the child being allowed to work at their own pace and independently with check-ins from me. Heron Books seemed to be a fit for our homeschool! We tried the Light Bulbs, Switches, and Batteries for my 5th grader. She loved the checklists for the student and when it told her to demonstrate what she learned to her "teacher." It was fairly easy for her to work through the book, finishing multiple lessons in one day. As a 5th grader she was on the upper end of the ages. Although somewhat easy for my 5th grader, it gave her a platform to gain knowledge of the subject, see if this is something she is interested, and use this as a springboard to dive deeper into the things that did interest her. The one downfall of the book was the supplies list. I wasn't 100% sure I was purchasing the right things that were needed for the experiments. And we live in a rural area so buying supplies is limited to online. Hopefully in the future Heron Books might provide a list or link of where to buy the products. Or potentially sell a kit with each science book? Overall, we were happy with this particular book and I will look into Heron Books for future homeschooling needs.

My son loved the circulation of blood book. I'm excited to supplement with more Heron books. These books are user friendly, easy to understand, colorful and the student can complete the lessons on their own.

My two homeschooled students (6th and 4th grade) used the human body curriculum. They loved it. This curriculum made the topic fun for them. They looked forward to using it every day. Can't wait to use other material from Heron Books.

I was given a trial of homeschool materials and I am more than impressed. Beautiful illustrations, well thought out lessons and activities, over all a super engaging subject that really helped my daughter get excited about learning. As a homeschool mom it is important to get kids excited to learn, and I appreciate Heron books for being able to provide that for my daughter.

Homeschool 2 kids. Both my kids are ADHD and I have struggled to find the right science curriculum that engages them. I've tried other science curriculums and they fall short for my kids. The Heron curriculum is multisensory. Anyone with ADHD kids know lengthy page after page of words is not beneficial. They grasp nothing. Heron reminds me of a magazine. Everything is short and to the point. Pictures on every page. Colorful. Hands on activities to reinforce. Most of the supplies needed for activities you already have available in your house. I can't recommend the science curriculum enough!

I was super impressed with both the curriculum and the company. They were genuinely interested in making sure we were able to make the best use of their products and really helped answer questions! I also really liked how well laid out the materials were. My kids were able to get a more hands on experience and were able to do the majority of it independently!

Heron Books is a great addition to the homeschooling community! They want kids to enjoy the content they are learning and show mastery through hands-on performance rather than tests. Love this philosophy :)

My classroom of 16 fourth graders really enjoyed the World of Plants lessons. The text was accessible for them to read and comprehend and the activities helped to aid understanding. They were excited to do the actives and did well on the final assessment. Overall I was really pleased on how the material was covered and how it encouraged exploration of plants.

I received a pilot unit about the human body (4th/5th grade level) and went through it with my (third grade) daughter. It's a nice unit that comes with flashcards, a guide book, a small journal, a textbook, and an exam (with key provided). The unit is organized by body parts and systems--first, about cells, organs, etc and then to the body's systems (nervous, circulatory, etc). The flashcards are grouped by system as well. The guidebook for the student is a checklist of things to do with each chapter (reading, using the flashcards, etc). My daughter loved checking each task off.My daughter also loved the small journal that came with the unit. She wrote notes and drew pictures in it.The end project and exam are wonderful. The end project was tracing a person on a big sheet of paper and labeling the parts/systems she learned about. The exam was short and great for assessing what she learned. The textbook is fabulous. It's colorful without being dumbed down (like overly cartoonish). The information in it is clear and concise. The pictures are drawn --which might be a drawback for some-- but I like that it's not graphic. I'm not a fan of blood and gut pictures. My daughter liked studying this unit. I could tell that she understood it well by doing the different review activities with her. I think she liked that the chapters weren't too long.I had fun participating with my daughter as she completed everything. I like how it was designed for her to teach herself and then show me what she learned by having me quiz her with the flashcards. This is a healthy pedagogical system that works. She did the work and then showed me. Her understanding of the concepts is phenomenal, I think, because of this. In summary, I recommend this homeschool unit and it's methodology. I look forward to buying other units to do with my children from Heron Books.
