I absolutely love this group! Recently taken on by a new Vet and we think he's the greatest! Reasonable, gets to the point and my dogs don't want to die entering the facility. Highly recommend!

I wanted to wait to calm down to write this review so that I wouldn't write a bad review just because of anger. After talking to many conventional and holistic vets, not just from the USA but also from different countries, I felt like I needed to write this review to save other animals' lives. When we first brought our pets, we loved this animal clinic until my dog was diagnosed with cancer. Two months ago, my dog had a senior full wellness checkup. I told the vet about my concern, which was a lump on her leg. He did the FNA as he should have, but he didn't do any bloodwork or ask for a stool sample for the senior yearly checkup. Since he mentioned cancer, I was very nervous, and I forgot to ask as well. He also prescribed Enrofloxacin. The result became clear, but the antibiotic messed her up. She got better after two weeks, but I found out that most vets recommend giving probiotics with this medicine, which they didn't. My dog got sick three days ago, one more time. My husband took my dog to the vet and told them to do everything to make sure what was going on. They only did FNA and gave the same antibiotics even though I specifically told them not to. My dog was diagnosed with cancer, but until we got the results, the antibiotics had already messed her up. However, our vet and oncologist couldn't agree on what type of cancer she had. I called Hoffman and asked why he didn't do a blood test, and yes, I yelled at them. He invited us to the clinic, did the blood test, X-ray, and found more issues about her red cell blood. We asked two holistic vets and one conventional vet; they said she needed to stabilize. We took her to Hoffman again; he did an ultrasound and didn't find anything. Two holistic vets were sure there was something going on, and the other conventional vet from our home country said that she might need a blood transfusion. Hoffman didn't say anything. Last week my dog was having a hard time breathing, and she had some heart rhythm problems. My husband went to Hoffman to talk to the vet if he could prescribe anything for this situation. He said there was no medication for heart rate problems. I talked to many pet parents whose dogs had lymphoma; it turned out that their dogs were prescribed for the same problem. I actually learned about 4-5 different medications for this specific situation. Oh, I forgot to say that the vet told us that the first FNA result that happened two months ago may not be inaccurate. When I told him that the only reason it may not be inaccurate is if the vet doesn't take the correct sample from the lump, he couldn't say anything. During all these situations, my husband and I were searching, talking, and telling them what to do, and when we didn't, they didn't do anything to help my dog. I really didn't think I needed to tell them to do the blood test, x-ray, or ultrasound, they are the vets, not us. They also prescribed the same antibiotics to my cat when I asked them how to help my cat not to have a UTI from stress. I thought that they would give him something to calm him down; instead, they prescribed him an antibiotic even though he didn't even have a UTI at this time. I know that they have already given up on my dog. We actually found a vet who really cares about animals and us, and it made me realize more how stressful all the experiences with Hoffman were; I was going to get sick. Now I'll always think about what-ifs because of Hoffman Animal Clinic. I'm upset, but I'm not writing this with anger. I care about animals more than humans, and I don't want anybody to go through what we have gone through. If Hoffman Animal Clinic wants the names of the medicines for the heart problem, I'm here to help. But as someone who loves their pets so much, I prefer an animal clinic that knows so many things and is willing to do everything to help them without me telling them what to do.

I've been a "patient" at Hoffman clinic for roughly 7 years now. My dogs have had numerous routine visits and several surgeries under Dr. Shimek. The office experience is nearly always a positive one. And yes, like most vets post-pandemic, they are very busy. People went out and got a pet or started taking more care of what they already had. Hiccups can happen. View the clinic's reputation elsewhere; there are hundreds of positive reviews. Yelp, as is tradition, is the place to complain. You'll find many of the negative reviews are more about the reviewer than their pet.

Caring people to look after my pets medical needs. Responsive to my concerns. I've taken three different cats there and I've been happy. I've been going here for a couple years now after switching from another veterinarian in Salem.

After having to put one fur baby down for medical reasons, I was very picky about my next vet for my new fur baby. Due to covid there was only one vet in my area taking new clients, Hoffman's was it and I'm glad. They took great care of my new baby. Just a heads up...Dr. Hoffman, is somewhat of a sarcastic smartass, so if you're sensitive, just know! I a smartass myself, so I quickly over looked it!

This is my second review of Hoffman Vet clinic and once again they went well and above for me. I unfortunately had to do what any pet owner has to do and humanly put my pup down due to bone cancer. They were extremely caring and loving to me and more importantly my girl. After her passing I was even given a hug by Sue. Whoever writes that they are all about the money is delusional. I have been taking all of my animals there for years and have never got a bill that was extreme in any way. These folks are legit.

I moved here from Arizona 18 months ago and selected this vet because my parter goes there for her critters. I wasn't comfortable since day one. They saw that she was a Pitbull and assumed she was aggressive, which is far from the truth! I took her in about five month ago because she was favoring her left leg. She's a very active gal, so I agreed with their diagnoses of a sprain. Her leg only seemed to get worse, so three weeks ago I took her back in and the other vet took and x-ray and showed it to me. He said that her left muscles had atrophied from the lack of use/limping and was able to tell she was in pain when he manipulated the area. He said that Annie may have cancer, but learning that she was from Arizona was somewhat confident that it may be a fungus found in the Southwest. He said he would give me call to arrange for a biopsy to rule out cancer. After a few days, no call. I did a little research and realized that maybe Annie had Valley Fever which can be detected with blood tests, plus the x-rays for bone cancer and VF look very similar. I called the vet and eventually got her in for a blood draw. I was told that the results would be in by the following Monday and they would give me a call. I ended calling Tuesday and she said the results weren't back yet, but she would get them and put a note on the Dr's desk to give me a call. I explained that Annie wasn't feeling well and was in pain (I was giving her pain meds). I called again on Thursday and the same receptionist answered and said the results were in and that she would put another note on the Dr's desk to give me a call. I said again that my dog was in pain and that I needed him to call by the end of the day, or I would find another vet. Well, the next day (today) I took her to VCA Salem Animal Hospital and found that she has VF and they started treatment immediately. THAT'S HOW IT SHOULD WORK! Don't fart off your clients! You have a file on your desk, make that simple call! I'm sorry but Vets are busy but not to busy to give their clients information. VCA was amazing! The vet explained everything and was so personable and knowledgeable! WOW! I had my previous vet in Tucson for 20 years and was kinda spoiled! Let me just add that if someone takes the time out of their day to write a review, there's a reason!

Im not sure where any of these good reviews come from. My wife and I made an appointment on March 30th for April 2nd at 2:10pm to get a simple check up on our doberman puppy. I made sure our appointment was secured. We made the 1 1/2 hour drive to Hoffman Vet. Clinic only to find out they never scheduled our appointment. When arriving they make you wait in your car and call in to let them know you arrived. I called in ( at 2:00pm ) and let them know we have arrived the lady who answered the phone was clearly not having a good day. We tried to move past it and waited in our car to be seen. 3 cars pull up and are treated right away. We waiting in our car for a whole HOUR & 20 MINUTES ! We had multiple people come up to our car and ask us our name as each of them wrote it down on a sticky note lol. It was now 3:30pm and we were both frustrated with whats going on. Come to find out they never scheduled our appointment to begin with?! They never mention that to us upon arrival and upon filing out paper work ?? This place is very unorganized and offers very poor service. I would NEVER come back to this place again. You cant even stay organized in front of your clinic i can't imagine what goes on behind the front desk. I PROMISE YOU THERE ARE BETTER VET CLINICS IN THE AREA DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR TRUST THIS PLACE.

Horrible experience. If you care about your pet DO NOT go here. I took my dog in for a neutered appointment and leading up to it I had a few bad experiences but decided to go ahead with it anyway since it was recommended by a trusted friend. First, they tell me I can't bring his dinner for him and that they will feed him. I say he has allergies and they ask for proof? He's a golden and has a sensitive stomach. THE WORST PART : no pre anesthesia screen offered and no IV offered. These are crucial for anesthesia, going under is a dangerous procedure. I had to ask for them, thank god I did my research. Then they say he has to stay overnight. Weird-- but ok. Then I find out no one will be watching him. How is that safe? I ask to take him home since I was told it was a possibility. The vet has the audacity to tell me that "his staff knows the rules and I will not get into this with you". As if I'm lying. He talked down to me and said if I ever want to come back I need to follow their rules. As if I will EVER come back to this place. Seriously take your pet somewhere else. If this is how they treat a paying customer imagine how they are treating your pet behind closed doors.

We have been taking our dog here since he was a puppy , he is 11 now . We took him in about a month ago and they told us he had heart disease " either put him down or spend a lot of money on an old dog" is what the vet told my husband . Our dog has had liquid build up in his stomach and it was getting REALLY uncomfortable for him . He look swelled up like a balloon . Hoffman's vet told us the only way to get ride of the liquid is to go in surgically and remove it . So we paid for a blood test to make sure his organs could handle the operation . It's been almost a week and still not a word from the vet ! He started bruising and the liquid started swelling up into his back leg ! We ended up taking our dog to another vet they INSTANTLY put him in some meds and told us our vet should have done this the first time they saw him to help him pee it all out . Within 2 days our dog is already better ! The meds were only 40$ !! I am soooo mad that Hoffman's vet was only try to get more money from us ! Not telling us there were any meds we could give our dog to help him with his tummy ! It literally only took 2 days of meds to help him ! DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE ! THEY ARE ALL ABOUT MONEY ! Also the old lady at the front desk is the rudest crankiest person ever , I should have know from day one just by talking to her that this place is not caring . I'm begging people PLEASE take your fur babies somewhere else .

New to Salem and as I'm finding this is a reoccurring theme that everything is very mediocre. This place is a good example of that. Incapable of operating like an actual business and overall gross

I used Hoffman's about 6 years ago for my cat. They were great then. My brother recommended I try them again now that I am back in the area and have a large puppy. They fit us into the schedule right away. The staff was friendly, helpful and professional. The vet and assistant were absolutely wonderful with my puppy and took great care to make him comfortable during the exam. The prices floored me! They were so much lower than other vets in the area. My puppy has it's vet for good!

Had to do the worst thing a pet owner has to do--have my sweet dog (Sam) euthanized due to the development of Cognitive Canine Dysfunction (he was becoming more aggressive and was biting and lunging at us). The staff was SO kind and truly compassionate. It made a horrible day easier to deal with. I was with him when they sedated him, and then they led me out of the room so they could complete the procedure. I miss my best boy so very much, every single day, but under the circumstances, the appointment went as smoothly as possible. Thank you all so much.

They have really good people working there, and Dr.Shimek is a good veterinarian too.
