The BEST neighborhood hardware store. Prices are good, help is excellent, and they have good music rocking. Basically a hardware store with soul. I feel super fortunate to have them in the neighborhood.

I like to think that a sure sign of a great business is how many people who work there have been there for a long time. I moved into the neighborhood 12 years ago and have been seeing many of the same faces at Hankin's for that whole time. As others have said, it is shockingly well stocked considering it size. When i needed a Woodruff key to fix my old table saw, they had it. When i needed sanding sealer for woodworking project, they had it. When I needed a cable saw for cutting PVC in a tight spot, that had it. And weirdly, their prices are pretty competitive. I've almost certainly paid the same or less for many things compared to the Home Despot. Perhaps my favorite thing that I've purchased there was a small paper bag full of random screws, washers, nuts and bolts for 1 dollar about 10 years ago. They had done a big clean up and as any hardware store might have after such a clean up, they ended up with a large random assortment of hardware. Instead throwing it away or spending way too much time restocking thousands of screws, they filled some paper bags and sold them. I've since transferred the contents to a ziploc but I use that assortment probably on a monthly basis and has saved me countless trips. This might sound a little weird or unhinged but I love Hankin's. Like for real. Much of the work i do is better for them being in the world.

Perfect spot for a neighborhood hardware store. I was thinking I might have to head over to one of the big box stores but no way. I walked in took a lap around the aisles not finding what I was looking for and all it took was a mildly confused look on my face before someone offered help and led me to exactly the weird little nut I was looking for. Less than $2 later, I'm happily getting in with my day. It may be a small store, but it's definitely worth it to drop in before heading to the outskirts so wander around for hours looking and hoping someone will help you.
