This place is amazing, though I really need someone to take my wallet before I walk in. Charles is super friendly, and was so kind to my 6 year old daughter when we came to browse (and left with $100 worth of books). Highly, highly recommended.

One of the most incredible book stores I've ever visited in my life. The representative Jalinn, was incredibly supportive & informative. For my 1st time EVER in Portland for our 1st time poetry show [ the historic #megaFLO ] in #Portland ...
This stop was one of my most favorite!

Third eye books is my favorite book store in Oregon. Amazing book selection, staff are so warm welcoming. Perfect for all ages young and old. We will be coming back again and again for years to come.

This is a beautifully curated small book store and the owner Charles is so kind; he spoke to me extensively about reading for racial justice and even gave me a free book to use in my work with kids. Lovely place, well worth a visit :)

Just take all my money. If I didn't have adult supervision I'd be building an encampment with all the books I just bought. I've already shipped a box, plus no room in my luggage for all this knowledge. I'm still plotting a solo return before I skip town. She gushed over speaking with the owner, who's a local civil rights activist at their holistic parlor around the corner. Brother behind the counter has plenty of recommendations that we took him up on. Highly recommend.

I first learned about Third Eye from a street festival at which they were vending. Charles was very nice and they brought an awesome selection of books. I continue to see them at different events, but finally made it in to the bookstore where I was greeted by Charles and an associate, who were both super friendly and happy to converse about books and music! The book selection in the store is outstanding and perfectly curated for a book buying experience you aren't going to find at any other bookstore, let alone at one in Portland (and we have a lot of bookstores). I returned another time to a pretty packed store where conversations were flowing with Charles and even among the customers in the store. You learn a lot just by being in the store and hearing conversations! It's a smaller store, but I spent a lot of time looking at nearly every book, many of which are by Black authors or are African-centered. I could have stayed all day, but I did pop in to their wellness store, where Michelle was equally friendly and helpful. Since then, I've placed a special order online for a number of books they didn't have in the shop (and which are kind of hard to find elsewhere, too)...that process was awesome...quick response, excellent and friendly communication about the process, and a phone call letting me know the books were in. If you're in Portland and you aren't shopping at Third Eye, you're really missing out. At the very least, you should be following them on social media to hear about the awesome bookish events they sponsor. If you're visiting Portland, you need to make this a stop. I promise you won't be disappointed.

I saw this place recommended by the Traveling While Black TikTok before visiting from Seattle. It did not disappoint! Lots of great Black-centered books for kids, teens, and adults. My boyfriend bought an adorable book for his niece. He also bought two books to read himself. He only got into reading over the past couple years and was an audiobook guy. He loved the store so much and got some great recommendations from Charles. I bought a memoir adapted for young adults that I’m excited to read. Charles also gave us a great recommendation for Caesar salad that actually was really delicious. So kind! I will definitely come back to visit.

It is a lovely shop; the gift shop up front was cute and had a nice variety of things, including oils and tarots.
The bookstore in back, my actual reason for checking the store out, has quite a variety of books on multiple subjects from biography, fiction, and history, including some of my favorite “alternative history“ and others, including children and young adult titles.
Overall, I enjoyed the shop, and they do offer special orders if they don’t have something you want in stock. It's worth checking out and enjoying.

Terrible experience.Owner asked me if I was there to shoot dope in his bathroom when I asked if I could use it. Then I proceeded to purchase a book and he said my girlfriend and I are “sus”. Ironic.First time in Portland and probably my last.
