I've had two horrifying run ins with a checker here named Ruthie. She is unbelievable and is hands down one of the most vile, rude, hateful individuals I've ever encountered. I was gonna let all the subtle passive aggressive rude comments and actions go but she got physical last night IN FRONT OF MY TWO YEAR OLD! She dropped a bag of groceries on my arm and proceeded to argue with me about it, as though I was in the wrong. Sarcastic "apologies," laughing loudly at me so the rest of the line would think I was being the "crazy" one, etc. Lastly, my two year old wanted to pay for some ice cream so we gave her $5 cash (towards $150) and Ruthie just looks at us, eye rolling, and won't take the cash until I have to EXPLAIN that it's from the child and that she wants to contribute. Something that should/could have been a sweet moment for my toddler (first time using her own Valentine's Day money to buy something) turned into a sad horror show. I don't know why she has it out for me, but it's the second time she was just an awful, vile person to me and my daughter. I'm not a "can I talk to the manager" person ever, but Jesus. How does she still have a job???

Today 25 Oct 2023 was the first and last time I'll visit this location! I haven't been made to feel this unwelcome since I was a teenager. The self checkout lady eyeballed me like a hawk from the door! Seeing this made me go to the nearest cashier, as to avoid any confrontation. The cashier at the nearest register wasn't any better. My cashier wouldn't even acknowledge me or my presence when I said "hello". She scanned my groceries and looked past me the entire time. As I loaded up my cart, with my groceries, my cashier then greeted her next customer, as I expected... I'm not saying I was profiled, but as a POC I'm well versed in this language and it felt very familiar... ✌️

The Safeway isn’t as clean as others and produce is gross.I still go here but recently there is a guy who works at the Starbucks there often that makes it so uncomfortable. He makes rude face and exhales all annoyed as people order and makes people feel like they are annoying. It’s fine if you hate customers and hate women but why work customer service if you can’t do the job ?? The other Starbucks baristas there seem to not notice how he scowls and says things under his breathe at people when they walk up like “greeeatt” and “ughhhh” how unwelcoming and weird. Guys like that that push their anger out on others have some issuesHe has scruffy brown hair and facial hair

Very clean but I don't like that they did away with midday of make-up and high theft items. I understand it, just don't like it. If it's not food then I'm not going there for it

Update 10/10/23: locked out at 11:50.This Safeway is EXTREMELY disappointing. Due to the hours I work, I can’t get to the store until, at the very earliest, 11:45pm. When I do go to the store, I am extremely fast grabbing my stuff and checking out. I have spent tens of thousands of dollars at this exact Safeway location. They’ve gotten to the point that they’ve made it impossible for me to go the freaking grocery store any longer. I showed up at 11:49 pm only to be confronted by a guy who refused to let me in. He just repeated “exit only” over and over when I asked him what was going on. I pointed out that I still had ten minutes and he said “exit only after 11:50,” to which I responded wel that is perfect because I was here befor then. And the only reason it’s 11:50 is because you prevented me from entering, or I’d be inside buying the medicine that I need already. His response? He grabbed the door and pulled it closed behind him. This is the customer service that I deserve from Safeway, a store I’ve been buying groceries from for over 30 years? It’s preposterous If they have a problem with theft, or if they have a problem with people taking too to check out, then maybe they should change their hours or o closing earlier. But to leave your hours as closing at 12 midnight, then preventing Customers from entering your store during your business hours is a slap in the facen to customers who don’t deserve to be treated like they are criminals, or like they’re unwanted. Since I’m already writing this, I might as well list my other grievances as well:1– the Safeway app is MAJORLY flawed. Out of dozens of receipts I’ve accrued over the last 6 months, I have I think 3 that were more than just one or two items and didn’t have any errors on them. And these errors that occur, literally every single error on like 98% of the receipts I’ve saved, they magically NEVER are an error giving you the customer a bigger discount than you should have gotten. Every single error works in favor of you paying extra $ so that Safeway can squeeze every single penny they can out of their patrons. Their Safeway club or whatever it’s called, where you save the items in the app for discounts, damn near 100% if the time willl not give you every discount you’re supposed to be getting. I highly, highly encourage you to make sure to check every single receipt that you get because I guarantee you’re over paying nearly every time you buy more than 1Or 2 things there. I have a stack of about 15 receipts with detailed explanations calculating anywhere from a $3 overpayment up to a $28 overpayment in receipts that are never more than about $100 per trip. I’ve had receithat charge me nearly 30% more than they should have. If you think about it, that $ amount adds up FAST! Consider how much money they must be raking in when it doesn’t work for every single paying customer. The amount of money being fraudulently stolen from Customers is staggering.2 — Safeway allows dangerous people to hang out in their covered parking area. I’ve been threatened, and ran out of there on multiple occasions. They allow people to pee and poop under there, so it smells absolutely horrific. And they do absolutely nothing about it. I can’t even count how many times I’ve seen grown men down there peeing , yo the point there are like small rivers of pee flowing from Several different sides of the lot towards the drain. I’ve had people threaten me when they don’t Like where I parked and also when I just happened to look over and see someone peeingOn my tire. That was fun.Safeway does exactly ZERO about fixing this problem. I refuse to park under there anymore. Even if it’s pouring down rain or a hurricane.3–their prices been jacked up so high it’s patently absurd. They say like 15% inflation? 15% inflation my butt. A huge huge chunk it why everything costs more is 100% purely out of greedy corporations just like Safeway taking advantage of the situation & price gouging their customers. These companies are all making RECORD BREAKING PROFITS.

Our family and friends are safeway's loyal customers. We regularly shop at location 122nd and sunnyside. We have never had any problems at this location. Today we visit the 39th and powell location. We were treated like a useless asians. My friend bought 2 boxes of strawberries, 2 boxes of blueberry and some other vegetables. just for U program applies 2 boxes of strawberries OR blueberries for 97 cents/box that means 2 boxes of strawberries will be applied just for U program and 2 boxes of blueberry will apply regular price. That's it. the cashier woman did not listen to our explanation but called a younger employee with orange red hair to point at us and they whispered to each other and acted rudely. This girl then shook her head and left without saying anything to us. the cashier here kept saying "oh Christ" dozens of times to show her helplessness. She said we were wasting her time. We have prevented other customers check out. It was a wound in our hearts. We will never visit here again.

Going to this Safeway is consistently one of the saddest + most dystopian experiences of my life. If you work at this location, from management to register, you must know that Safeway DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. They care more about the products on the shelf than employees + customers, combined.I am not going to shop for the items in the new lockdown section. It’s a ridiculous setup to make your employees afraid of customers. I know management here is afraid of their own customers; Alex has told me directly that he is afraid of people who can’t afford their skyrocketing prices on baby food. So now we have to see armed guards everyday that will run if anyone actually came in a tried anything serious. You’re just here to harass the poor.Safeway is getting less of my money because of their awful customer + employees experience. You’re a multi-billion dollar company, if you want less theft, lobby for a higher federal minimum wage.

Been shopping here for years… the new anti theft actions makes this now a horrible experience. One checkout if you need alcohol or pharmacy things is a huge bottleneck for people doing a big trip. Then after the long line they lock up your cart wheels like your trying to steal stuff.

Deli dept so rude! When I approached the counter, there was another customer being helped ahead of me, so I waited. Then, when that customer had been served, the employee told me I needed to wait because he had someone ahead of me. So I waited. Then, another customer showed up after me, and that customer was served ahead of me. WTF.

Ngl i think Safeway is the worst store! However the girls in the pharmacy at this location are the best! They were the only pharmacy in the city that had both of the medications on hand that I needed! They applied a discount code and the total was almost $100.00 that I expected. Thank you ladies so much!

Going to QFC instead from now on..Posted closing time is 12:00 am. I arrived at 11:50pm to find the lower doors locked. I walked all the way around to the upper doors to find a security guard, and yellow toothed checkout man guarding the doors and turning people away. I showed them the time on my phone: 11:55pm. The yellow toothed employee informed me that for the last 5 minutes they are exit only.It is okay if you want to close earlier, but you need to ADVERTISE your ACTUAL closing time! I had left the house and driven to get diapers based on false information. You don't close at midnight, nor do you close at 11:55pm. I saw you turn people away well before 11:55pm.

Man this Safeway bums me out. It use to be the best location by far because it had a sandwich bar which is uncommon. The sandwiches were so excellent and great prices, so it was a big draw for doing the rest of our shopping there since we could order and go shop while the deli workers made the items.Technically the sandwich bar still exists but the workers in the deli will truly avoid making anything from it at all costs. I would estimate it's 1/10 times we visit that they agree to make a sandwich. We make sure to visit at least two hours after the bar is supposed to be open and serving, and we are regular normal polite humans. Still, they will say the oven is broken, or (while not busy and standing at the counter with food prep gloves already on) ..that there is no one to make a sandwich. It is bizarre and as previously mentioned, a major bummer. During the rare occasion they agree to make a sandwich, they appear to be actively hostile about it.I recommend closing the sandwich bar and sticking to the over fried chicken that is always sitting in the hot bin. And maybe give your deli workers a vacation... because they are not okay.

I've been a loyal customer to safeway, but unfortunately im not so happy on my last shopping trip because of a rude employee assigned at the self check out. I needed help about my purchase, so i called her with a smile on my face, but sad to say she came with a frown on her face and rudely asked me of what i want to do? Then she punch in the numbers on the monitor very rudely and with an angry face. I hope safeway employees should be taught how to talk to the customers nicely and help happily. By the way, the name of the employee is Tyra☹️

Always remember to double check your receipt because 98% of the time I go there I am over charged. I've also had my car broken into and my wallet stolen from my purse while I shopping.

I really like this Safeway. I live close by and come often. The staff are always friendly. They’re doing their best when times are getting tough and people who are shopping are getting more and more stressed. I think all the staff deserve a raise. Thank you for all you do!
