Let me start by saying, Adam and John are amazing people. The shop is incredible. Fantastic quality work and excellent customer service. Also prices are very reasonable compared to other futon shops. Don’t listen to the bad reviews about not being able to put futon a together. It is sad to see you people leaving bad feedback for good business because they are unable to follow instructions and have 0 communication skills. Oh, and they feel somehow entitled too. Go get your rock soft futon from rock solid people. ???

The young man who helped us figure exactly what type of futon we needed was so helpful and kind. He did an amazing job. We love our new futon couch and will be back whenever we need another great quality but still affordable futon. Highly recommend this place.

I love this place, I bought a futon and frame 20 years ago as a college student. after 18 years one of the wheels broke, Rock Soft had the part and gave it to me for free. After 20 years, we finally replaced the mattress due to a kitten incident. The new wool futon is so comfortable. I'm guessing it's going to last another 20 years.

When I saw all the great reviews that this furniture store received, I decided to visit it because I wanted to buy a futon for my son's small bedroom. We had already visited Cotton Cloud Futon in Portland and met Jai, the owner's daughter, but we decided to do some comparison shopping.At Rock Soft Futon, my son became enamored with the owner's Riviera model because it seemed easy to convert from a sofa to a bed. My son was excited to pick out this major purchase because he is growing exponentially as he is going through puberty and he just started high school. His birthday is this month.We bought the mattress on a Saturday, and John, the owner, offered to deliver it during my lunch break the following Tuesday. Sounds fantastic, right? On Tuesday he delivered the wood parts and queen-size mattress, but he wouldn't put it together. I couldn't believe it. He said it would only take 15 minutes and would only take a Phillips head screwdriver.I really didn't believe I'd be able to put it together in 15 minutes and didn't understand why - if it was so easy to put together why the owner of the store - who developed the design - wouldn't put it together for me quickly. I really didn't want to have an angry confrontation with John, without even having looked over the instruction manual he brought, so I dropped the exchange and ran back to work (it was my lunch hour) and just optimistically hoped his instructional manual would be straightforward and clear, and my son (a soon-to-be Eagle Scout) and I would be able to put it together later when I picked him up from school after I got off work later in the early evening.Boy, was I wrong! The directions were simplistic and unclear. There was no step-by-step manual - just a small piece of paper. The illustrations were one-dimensional, and the paper didn't even label the different types of screws and pins (hardware) included in the plastic bag.Do you know what a Clovis pin is? Or how about a cotter pin? It would take me 15 minutes alone to look up on the internet what those pins were and identify them. As you can see, the paper doesn't even show what the futon looks like assembled. How am I supposed to assemble a piece of furniture when I don't know what it looks like?Let me remind you, that when you go into a showroom and look at a futon, it is COVERED with a FUTON. You don't see the frame underneath it, and you certainly don't study each piece and how the pieces fit together because you believe the owner of the store who additionally is the designer of the piece will take pride in his work, show some professionalism and assemble the piece - especially if it "only takes 15 minutes".At no time during our transaction in the showroom did he say that assembly wasn't included. There were no signs on the walls saying that, and there it wasn't written on the receipt.On one of the reviews listed here, a customer bought the same model and he delivered and assembled it for her. There was no reason for me to believe he wouldn't do the same for me.Later that night, I had my son call John to say we couldn't put the futon together. He couldn't reach him and left a voicemail instead. At 9pm, John returned his call, I answered the phone, and expressed my frustration saying that his instructions didn't even include a picture of what the assembled futon should look like. He said he'd send me photos in the morning.I couldn't sleep all night. I was so upset. This major purchase was supposed to be a gift to my son showing him how much I loved him and how proud of him I am that he is growing into a fine young man. He had cleared out everything from his bedroom - desk, shelves, bed, mattress, boxspring, bed frame, desk, rug, bedding, and chair to make room for this futon with a quuen-sized mattress. He was getting rid of his kid sized twin sized bed for an adult queen-sized one.

When they say lifetime warrantee, they mean it. after 18 years from college parties to moving multiple times, one of the rollers broke. Not only did they still have the part, they gave it to me for free. We just replaced and upgraded the mattress after 20 years of use an an unfortunate kitten incident. The Ultra Wool edge is so comfortable, I'm guessing we'll have this piece for another 20 years.

absolutely love this place. i was having major back problems from a stumptown hybrid mattress i had only had two years that was already dipping!! i came here because i grew up sleeping on futons and know they’re great for my back. the owner and the other guy there were super friendly and left me alone to try out different beds so it didn’t feel awkward. i ended up getting the ultra wool queen mattress a few months ago for an incredibly reasonable price and it’s been amazing and so comfortable. would definitely recommend this place to others.

My favorite shop in town for furniture and custom made shelves. It's all local and they provide all natural real wood materials as well as non toxic mattress/ pad filling options. Customer service is always a good experience. This is such a secret gem in Portland. I've bought their bed frame, a Riviera futon and set of coasters made of scrap material. I love them all and highly recommend taking a look at what they have at the shop.

The futon with frame is a beautiful purchase until the wood frame cracks. So after you spend 400-500$ on this, be ready to crack the front and back of the wood frame a few times just from sitting down and getting up from it. They will happily replace the cracked wood piece (you go to their place to pick it up) but you'll have to pull the frame apart and replace the wood yourself. You'll feel good for a little while until the frame cracks again. Then after a few times it becomes frustrating. Just a heads up.

THE BEST customer service!!! The futons are made right in the store, you can see the workshop. The whole spot is super chill and John is so nice. The furniture is really high quality. It's easy to pick up, there's a driveway where you can pull up.

I just moved here and didn't have any furniture or a bed. I picked up the Ultra Wool firm futon and it's gloriously comfortable! Very supportive but still soft enough for my bony shoulders and hips. Great price and nice folks too, helped me put it in my vehicle.Next, I'm saving up for one of the sofa versions for my empty living room. It'll be perfect for guests, and they have such a great selection.

One of our favorite places in Portland. They offer high quality products and individualized service. John was great and helped us get a new futon and custom design cushions for our living room nook. They also offer a wide array of pillows and fabrics to round out any room. We will definitely use them again.

I came here after reading all the reviews and deciding that I wanted an actual, NICE bed to sleep on. John did an absolutely fantastic job on my custom sized futon and bed frame. It fits perfectly into the nook I had planned for it, and the futon itself is heaven. Super easy to put together, too! I'm 5'0 and not in great shape, but I was able to carry all the pieces and assemble it myself :) I bought my old bed when I was a teen and as I got into my 20's, it was really starting to affect my sleep because it was too soft. Friends and family questioned it a little bit when I said I was going to look into getting a firm futon instead of a "regular" mattress, but I'm so glad I did. With the bed frame that John made, it's sooooo nice to sleep on. This isn't the kind of bed you would jump on as a kid- it's not bouncy and creaky. It's a really solid, comfortable bed that I feel like I'll love for many, many years. Thank you, I'm so happy with it!!
