Rented a kayak at PKC for 3 hours for the first time in many years. John and Pam were as helpful as they could be in selecting and returning the kayak. John was particularly helpful in how to avoid strain on my lower back that has been acting up. The equipment was in good shape and good quality. There was no distraction from enjoying the paddling experience along the Willamette and around Ross Island! If I don't buy my own kayak from them, I'll definitely rent from them again.

I came here to celebrate my birthday and boy did I have a blast!!! Our guide Rose was super attentive and helpful and made our tour around the Willamette River fun and informative. My husband and I felt safe at all times, and Rose was more than happy to answer any questions we had about kayaking. They were also quick to address any issues that we had with our boat and paddles. Thank you Portland Kayak Company for making my birthday so memorable!

This place is great. Staff was friendly and helpful, logistics were a breeze, and we were on the water within 15 min of walking in. Because they are actually a high end paddling shop as well, they have a much nicer fleet of rental kayaks than many tourist trap type outfits.Location is good and there are many route options right from the shop (albeit a ~5 min walk to the water using their handy wheel system). And again I want to stress that they have a whole range of rental options including 17ft performance sea kayaks so you can definitely cover some ground if you want.We really enjoyed the experience and would definitely book again.

Lovely staff and so much fun to get to try out kayaking on the river! I was impressed by how nice these kayaks were, too. We were really flying with very little effort. Highly recommend only doing 2 hours if you're a little out of shape like we are :)

PKC is a fantastic company. Staff are welcoming, patient and kind. Their rental kayaks are like new…NOT what you would expect of a rental…incredible!
The location is perfect…you can ‘walk’ the kayaks right down to the Willamette River with 2-wheel trolleys and you are quickly on the water. With 2-hour rentals we’ve gone down and back (South) on the River and across to>around Ross Island…both lovely to do.
Obviously, I highly recommend this wonderful company!

Friendly, helpful staff. Great advice and directions. Clean equipment in good condition. Absolutely gorgeous location and a wonderful time for all of us from a first-timer to more experienced folks.

I took the beginner kayaking class and would highly recommend it. I had no prior experience and instructors Fred and Margo were great - I felt safe even when we had a surprise storm, and they introduced new skills at a manageable pace throughout the class. It was fun, a great workout, and the views are beautiful. On a cooler day, you will thank yourself if you bring a change of clothes/shoes for after class.

Great place to buy a kayak! Annie was super helpful and communicative throughout the whole process. She helped us try out a bunch of tandems and walked us through all the steps. Mike helped us load it up and secure it. This place goes above and beyond. Would definitely recommend! 10/10

We went on the Ross Island trip with Fred. What a wonderful guide and beautiful person. He was knowledgeable, experienced, fun and considerate. He was very attentive to our safety without being oppressive and I very much appreciate it. The kayaking is fairly easy and we saw a couple bald eagles and heron. I would highly recommend this!!

I brought close to 30 people for a church youth group adventure. We had a great time! It took a couple months for me to get everything squared away and PKC was so helpful! Everyone was helpful and responsive and answered all my questions. The day of the event, the staff was prepared and helpful and someone was always there to answer questions. Things were clean and organized, staff was kind and cheerful and prepared. Thank you!!

The 3-hour Kayak basics class on the river was great. Small class size and friendly instructors. It definitely improved my paddling skills.

Portland Kayak Company was really great. All the information communicated through their emails and website was very accurate and clearly stated. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. It was very easy to get down to the river and we enjoyed our time kayaking. I think next time we would do four hours to have a more leisurely experience. Highly recommend!
