Harley is friendly taking care of the customers. They helped me with car troubles or oil changes. Sometimes they may have staffing issues but they try their best to get the work done in a timely manner with reasonable prices. Sometimes certain procedures may take longer when they are waiting for parts to come in.

I am so grateful to live close to Portland Best Auto Repair. Harley and his crew are attentive, straightforward, honest, super knowledgeable about car needs, and perhaps most of all, very kind and welcoming. I will return there immediately anytime I have a car need!

Please DO NOT go to this repair shop. I came from out of town to get my car fixed quickly. I was promised that my car wouldn’t be done no later than Monday night after I dropped it off Saturday morning. The shop gave me empty promise after empty promise saying “your car will be done today” “we will keep you updated”. I got 0 updates from the mechanics with them telling me I was annoying for calling to see where my update was. They finally started my car after a week and to top it all off I had to PERSONALLY help the mechanics fix my car. When I got back in town I was let go from my job for being gone to long. Thanks Portland best. I’ll NEVER be coming back.

Worse interaction with any business ever in my life. NEVER try to get warranty work done that they have done and guarantee. Your vehicle will sit in the lot untouched. But promised daily for weeks it will be done.

My catalytic converter went bad. Harley got me in quickly and replaced it in one day at an honest rate.

Liars and scammers. Paid well over $800 for them to A) never call me with an update, I always had to call them and B) they didn’t fix anything wrong with my car. I was promised my car would be fixed by X date, when that date came and I heard nothing, I would call and get told they need it until X date. They made multiple empty promises to a 19 year old girl, took my dads money, and never fixed the car. I think it should be classified as theft, they took the money and never performed the promised service of improving my car by at least 1%. It is the exact same car that I drove in 3 weeks ago, NO DIFFERENCE. And they never once offered a discount for wasting weeks of my time and energy. Harley and your whole team at Portland Best, you’re a disappointing team of mechanics and I suggest you all get properly retrained on both mechanics and people skills. You truly could not have a more inappropriate name for a business. You are Portland’s Subpar Autoshop, “best” is far too much an overstatement.

Awesome people. My car started making weird noises, and had it diagnosed at Portland Best a month ago. It was a $1600 repair, but I called around 9 different places and, sure enough, the type of repair i needed would have cost $200-500 more at other shops in the area. At the time, things just continued to go wrong. I had trouble getting through to them, my service was delayed, and I was upset at the time. It should be noted that we had a 100+ degree heat wave at the time of my service. I had trouble getting through because their phone lines went down, and a delay in service because an employee was sent home after getting a heat stroke. Businesses that care about the health and well- being of their employees mean ALOT to me. My car runs great now, by the way! Thanks, Portland Best!

I can't say enough good things about Harley and the mechanics at portlands best. I brought my car in to check an engine light that had come on, within 5 minutes Harley had found the cause and told me the time frame for fixing it. Then he had the part ordered right in front of me not a minute later. This was easily the best experience I've had at a mechanic shop in portland, hands down. I was kept up to date with everything that was going on and Harley and his crew were even able to work around my schedule to get my car fixed and now my car is back to 100% At this point there is no other shop I will go to for my car needs ever again.

I had a very bad experience at this shop. I gave them $300 as a deposit for parts on a Thursday. Called Monday morning to schedule the repair and was told they were closing permanently. Called numerous times to try to retreive my deposit. Showed up in person multiple times until the issue was finally resolved with a refund 1 week later.
I'm relieved the situation is over but it was very stressful and one of the most unpredictable experiences I've ever had at an auto shop

TLDR; DO NOT take your vehicle here. My vehicle was held hostage on a warranty repair for a bad O2 sensor for 2 weeks while I was barely able to get ahold of anyone on the phone (we called DOZENS of times... no answer and no machine...), we showed up numerous days during Portland Best Auto's business hours to find the shop was closed, and their website was down. Numerous other customers also had their cars held hostage while the shop owner disappeared and their main location on Glisan closed permanently..
Full story: Two months ago I had my catalytic converter and oxygen sensors replaced here, which went great for my first visit at this shop. Two months later, my check engine light came on and it turned out to be a faulty oxygen sensor, so the shop said to bring it back in for a warranty replacement. They had me drop my car off early AM so that they could get to it quickly. That was a Friday. I hadn't heard anything so I called on Monday PM. They said that they can't look at it until the next day. Still no call. I checked back in on Wednesday. The guy said he would call back in an hour, which he did but only then did they actually look at the car. He said the part would come in next day and it would be done Thursday. I didn't get any calls on Thursday. We called on Friday (numerous calls didn't go through, as their phone has no machine). Finally spoke to the owner on Friday (one week after drop-off) and he said that the shop had been crazy with employee drama and that he would get the car fixed that day. Then he calls back at 3:30pm and said the car would be ready at 4:30. Five minutes later he calls again saying that I need a new battery- which was the first time hearing about this. I asked to just put the warranty part in and be done with it. He calls after hours saying that my car is done and he would be in Saturday 10am if I wanted to pickup then. Saturday we call to make sure he was there (we live far from the shop) and there was no phone answer. So, we wait until Monday to pickup knowing that someone would for sure be there. We arrive during business hours and the shop is completely closed. We try again on Tuesday- shop is completely closed again so we left a note in the drop box asking to be called ASAP. Wednesday morning we get a call that he is in the shop and we can pickup the car. All in all, I went almost two weeks without my car for a simple what should have been 30 minute part change..
While trying to figure out how to get my car back during the closure, we were told that the main shop on Glisan closed permanently without notice, all the employees at this location have quit, and the owner was missing for those two days all while dozens of cars were on their lot with no way of being retrieved or being able to contact the shop.
DO NOT bring your car here. They might do a good job, but they might also just disappear entirely while your car is held hostage.

Brought my truck in to fix a leak in the fuel tank. I was told it would be ready the next day after I dropped it off. It took over a week to be completed and not once did I recieve a phone call with any updates, I had to call every day for any communication.
Two weeks after the job was "completed" my truck is still leaking fuel so I return to the shop with my concerns. Only to find out the entire staff has quit and the owner is missing. I guess I shouldn't be surprised with how awful my experience was on the customer side. On the off chance this business comes back, you're better off taking your vehicle somewhere else.

In the interest of full disclosure, I've been a customer for two years and previously had excellent service at the 71st and Glisan location. This is my first time interacting with the owner or the shop on Foster. The shop called me exactly once in the 3 days it was being "diagnosed". I had to repeatedly call for updates, and more likely than not getting either out of date information, or bad information. On top of that, they left the engine air filter out and the filter box open after returning the truck.
Day 1: Sent to shop with rattle at specific RPM, likely a heat shield. One heat shield had been removed and was in the back seat. The initial diagnosis: the rattle was due to failed catalytic converter, and they had found rear main seal leak. Their recommendation was to replace both, including a new clutch. After I reminded the owner that his (other) shop had replaced the clutch and gasket 15,000 miles ago, the shop "looked again" to find an oil pan leak. The owner provided quotes for replacement of both. I wanted to compare prices, so no work was authorized.
Day 2: No communication.
Day 3: After calling multiple times in the morning, the shop re-diagnosed the exhaust rattle and determined it was, in fact, a heat shield. They also had to be reminded multiple times about the heat shield that had been removed, and asked to re-install it. I retrieved the truck, and was not charged. Whether this was good will or lack of paper trail is unknown.
Day 4: 20+ miles later, for a routine fuel up, I decided to check the oil level (due to previously found seepage). This is when I found the air filter wedged on top of the engine and the air box open.
I'm very lucky I had to gas up when I did, and I really hope no permanent damage was done to my truck's engine. The rattle is gone and it looks like all the heat shields are intact, which is a positive. Otherwise my experience was terrible. Beware.

Great honest service at a good price. I met with the owner directly. He service technician inspected my car, test drove it and gave a detailed assessment of maintenance needed. All in all a very good experience from start to completion of work.
I highly recommend them.
