2244 E Burnside St, PortlandI’m literally in love with MFCAD. I went there today and they were CLOSED!!! Then I realized… I didn’t actually need any dog food. How did they know?!? I slipped a 20 under the door for good measure and crawled my way back to hell. Will be returning soon!

Mud Bay
1616 NW Glisan St, PortlandSpeciality pet stores like this attract those with money - or those looking for items not easily found. I am in the latter group. I shop two of their stores: Hawthorne (street parking), and Grant Park, next to New Season's, on NE Broadway (parking garage, shared by New S's.). Found some great stuff for my foster kitty: a $10 feather on a wand (with $5 refills); a kitty litter that is low tracking made from corn (Wee Kitty), and VetriScience Composure chews for my foster kitty. (They said if they don't work they would refund it - or credit it. Can't remember which.) They have knowledgeable staff and your questions will get answered quickly. They deliver if you are in their service area. I also believe they do good by donating pet food to worthy causes. That alone gets my vote!

For Paws
3340 SE Division St, PortlandMy favorite pet supply store I have ever been to! They have the best dog stuffed toys! Fun pop culture references, current events, etc. Honestly the most attractive leashes/collars too. Fun prints...very Portland/PNW inspired. You can always trust their food/treat brands to be sustainable and no filler ingredients. Bulk dog treats by the pound....SO INEXPENSIVE. Lots of other treats sold individually also, meaning less packaging waste which means less expensive also. When you see a "boutique" pet shop on a popular shopping street, you would expect high "boutique" prices. Nope. I am always pleasantly shocked at how affordable my total is.Plus, all the employees will remember your pet's name and greet them with treats!!!!!

Pets on Broadway
2762 NE Broadway, PortlandI'm honestly not one for writing reviews, or if I mean to, I often forget to actually do it, but the service I experienced here, even as a new customer was so far above and beyond any other fish store I've been to, I knew I had to follow through lol! I came in with a water sample and a bunch of questions (they offer free water testing!) and was almost immediately helped by someone named Micah. Not only were they friendly and all the other things you expect from a good store, but their knowledge around fish was leaps and bounds beyond what I've gotten from other stores. I felt bad taking up nearly 30 minutes of their time, but when I run into someone who can actually help answer my questions I tend to take advantage LOL. Not only this, but after they had bagged me my fish, I asked about where their hydrolyzed protein food was for my special needs kitty, and they informed me they don't carry that sort of food, but were able to offer a whole long list of alternatives, AND, actually explain why they were alternatives! I never saw myself trying raw food, but here we are, and so far my kitty love it :) Truly won over my business then and there!

The Groom Shop PDX
824 SW 18th Ave, PortlandMagic! ? I got a rescue pup last year and he had trauma around grooming. Since then we have been trying to find someone who can work with him, his anxiety, and his sassiness when he gets groomed. It has been tough - many groomers wouldn’t take us.Albert was willing to take us on and he worked magic!! I sat in on the whole groom and saw how gentle and encouraging he was with my little pup. My dog did not snap or get really scared like he has in the past. His haircut is so cute - he looks like a little cloud.Albert has a truly unique spirit to work with dogs and exudes a vibe that gives them comfort. He only works with one dog at a time; other groomers will take on numerous dogs and cage your pet till they’re ready & they don’t have the same ability to work with an anxious dog. So many dogs don’t like to be groomed, not just my dog, and by the end of the session my little one trusted Albert. Albert really helped allay anxiety for me, too, because it’s been a hard journey until now. There’s even parking for drop offs.

Play & Chase Dog Care
7660 SW Barbur Blvd, PortlandChoosing a facility for your dog can be nerve-wracking, but Play & Chase Dog Care has consistently eased my worries. My dog enjoys daycare, boarding, and grooming services, and every visit leaves him at ease—no signs of anxiety. Which is VERY rare for him. Emily, Brandy, and Liz go out of their way to make sure he receives a lot of love and attention, which I known is true as he gets excited whenever we pull up and he knows where he’s going. That says a LOT about a facility. Not to mention, the grooming team's professionalism and proficiency always leaves my dog looking and feeling fantastic. I can't speak highly enough about the overall care provided at Play & Chase. This review has been long over due. Thank you Play & Chase for taking such good care of my best friend.

Urban Pawsibilities
3737 SE 21st Ave, PortlandHave had a great experience with Come Dog and Walkin' Dog classes here (both taught by Emma). Our dog is 65lb of pure puppy energy and we were not sure if he'd be able to make it through a whole hour being so close to other dogs without being able to play with them (his only desire in life is to wrestle every dog he sees). Emma did a great job setting up the space to minimize distractions and got him to the point where he pays attention to us even with other dogs nearby. All the games and skills we learned in class have really translated into better behaviour and self control everywhere. Going on walks is 1000% more fun, he's able to sit calmly when dogs walk by us, and his recall is pretty darn good too. Going to classes together really helped me and my partner get on the same page with training. Instead of both of us watching a bunch of random Youtube videos and taking different approaches we now all know the same cues and rewards and our dog isn't getting mixed messages from us. Totally worth the cost.

Von Dubinhaus Dog training
14200 SE Woodward St, PortlandI had puppy fever one day and bought a GSD pup from someone in the classifieds. Needless to say that was a huge mistake and my puppy had all sorts of behavior problems. I was going to try and just youtube my way through training but as he got bigger I got worried and reached out for some training.I reached out to 3 different trainers that I found from a google search. All three told me they suggested a 2 week board and train for 2000$ and promised my pup would be fixed.First of all I wasn't looking to just hand off my pup to some stranger to "fix" all his problems. Paul only suggested board and train when we had exhausted other avenues and my pup was still having negative behavior. eventually I did do a two week board and train with Paul and my pup came back with his manners! I was super impressed.Next Paul doesn't guarantee his training is going to "fix" the problem, and this makes so much sense because you cannot predict how the animal is going to learn and what other issues maybe going on. You also can't predict if puppy parents are going to go home and do their homework. I respected the honesty from him on that.Paul has been training and taking care of dogs for 20 plus years! He is knowledgeable, has a huge heart for animals, and is a no BS kind of guy. If you need dog training come see this guy!

Kindred Dog PDX Dog Training
4815 SE Division St, PortlandBefore we went to Kindred Dog Pdx we were never confident that we could have Josey off leash because she basically had no recall. She was also a bit anxious when people and other dogs approached. So, we decided to enroll her in a 4-week Board and Train last October. We have been so very pleased with the care, support and expertise that were given to us since that time. Ruben and Shane are great at communicating with us and our 3 year old lab/pittie mix. Their gentle yet firm manner of speaking to Josey and their clear teaching style really allowed Josey to be more calm and confident. We have been regulars at the weekly group alumni class which is a great community support gathering with pearls of training that we take with us to practice before the next class. The saying ‘It takes a village…’ can also be applied to the care that’s often times needed in the raising of these wonderful K9 friends. My husband and I took up the responsibility and energy of raising a very active 8-week old pup while we are in our 70’s. We are very fortunate and grateful that we were guided to Kindred Dog Pdx and have become confident dog handlers in the process.

El Yucateco Foodcart
11807 NE Sandy Blvd, PortlandAs a Mexican-American taco enthusiast, stumbling upon El Yucateco Food Cart was a revelation. Initially drawn by my love for tacos, I was skeptical when my Midwestern friend recommended I try their panuchos. However, one bite was all it took to convert me into a devoted panucho aficionado. My first foray into panuchos left me with a pang of regret for not ordering more. Since that fateful day, I've become a regular patron, making the pilgrimage to El Yucateco whenever my cravings strike. The staff, with their warm smiles and genuine hospitality, only add to the experience.I must commend the staff's attentiveness, as they not only cater to my cravings but also ensure my friends are well taken care of. I couldn't help but chuckle when they graciously offered chips to my friend as she attempted to salvage the remnants of her vegetarian panuchos with her fingers. I can’t blame her though, that avocado salsa is like liquid heaven!

Killer Banh Mi
8201 SE Powell Blvd B, PortlandI saw the raving reviews so wanted to check this place out. The bahn mi is good bulgogi has good flavor. The meat is pretty chewy though, and I would say the combo definitely is not worth the extra 5 bucks. I'd stick to the sandwich. The service was pretty quick and the lady was very nice. It's a small hole in the wall location. I would however avoid this area after about 5/6pm. This area is home to many people whom reside outside lol. As someone who has been to almost every bahn mi place in Portland I will say comparing to best baguette, bahn mi fresh, and a few other bahn mi places i think killer bahn mi is the best! But it is quite spendy for a bahn mi. You pay for it in the amount of meat they give you but still. If you like this kind of bahn mi I'd recommend also checking out an xuyen bakery. It's this little bakery on like 51st and foster but they have some of the biggest bahn mis I've ever had for 1/2 the price.

RJ Skillets
2529 NE Alberta Street, PortlandI ordered a beef brisket chimichanga and chicken quesadilla via Doordash. Both were exceptional. The quesadilla reminded me of one of my favorite New Mexican style restaurants in Denver: Jack-n-Grill. They use high quality cheddar (my personal preference) and chicken. I wish more restaurants understood and appreciated the superiority of quality cheddar. Also, their pico de gallo was top notch.. paired perfectly with the quesadilla. Please keep up the great work.Edit: I'm lowering my score due to service on the second order. They don't provide an option to order pico de gallo. I made a request for more, as 2 tiny cups don't suffice. It was ignored.

Pair anything with their extensive liquor selection and great tap list, along with amazing cocktails they make in house. I feel like when I’m inside, it’s like I’m back in my grandparents basement. It’s cozy and has a great feeling. Patio is great for the summertime. I can’t recommend this place enough.

Honey Butter Country Fare
6719 NE 18th Ave, PortlandWhat I love about Portland is diving into the abundance of Gluten Free food. Honey Butter Country Fare, was the very clear winner this trip with simply outstanding food. I will admit, I've never tried deep fried Oreos or asparagus in it's gluten form before, but man biting into the gluten free deep fried asparagus was a real, melt in your mouth, delicious treat. My daughter ended up stealing them from me, and then requesting a second order (even over the funnel cake!). Hands down will drive out of my way for this food again. The funnel cake was just as I remember it from the fair over a decade ago- though definitely smaller proportions. The fried Oreos were yummy, the fried pickles were filled with molten lava pickle juice that was delicious. The corn dog was good, but note the batter had little seeds in it that made the texture a bit different. My husband gave the fried chicken two thumbs up! Thank you for making something so delicious!

SE 182nd Ave, PortlandLOVE this place!! I’ve had hedgehogs before, and this breeder is by FAR the most knowledgeable of the ones I’ve researched. The adoption process went very smoothly and my hedgehog is very healthy and sweet. I couldn’t recommend this place more.

Oregon Humane Society
1067 NE Columbia Blvd, PortlandThis is a great shelter to adopt an animal from and we just adopted a dog from it. Visiting dogs or cats while they are in their kennels is very straight-forward, just walk in during open hours, animals available for adoption also are listed on their website. The shelter is large and had so many dogs available for adoption. If interested in adopting a meet and greet with the animal is arranged with an adoption counsellor present. This is to both make sure adopted pets go to as perfect a situation as possible, and to clearly understand any special need a pet might have. We had some issues getting that visit set up through the website and ended up calling in to arrange for it. Note that in order to arrange the meet and greet they are expecting a level of commitment to making an adoption decision, so when going for in for that one has to be serious about about adopting. The adoption fees are around $450-500, which seems fair given they include spay or neuter. Recommended.
