The best books, tucked away!

There's some secrecy to this--the outside door is locked and you have to phone David in the shop. what a special place: books for booklovers, authors I've known about and couldn't find elsewhere, interesting writers I've never heard of, artists' books, rare editions. A bare bones atmosphere cause it's the books that matter. And David Abel has a national (if not worldwide) reputation as a book collector and evaluator, and is very generous with his knowledge.

Such a treasure. Books you may never get the chance to explore anywhere else. I haven't been in for a while, but after pandemic my wish is to again. Such knowledge, the owner has and very kind, as I recall. I am writing this because covid has been a difficult time for us all. Support this artwork of a bookstore collection, because once the independents are gone, they are gone. My name is Roger Browning, author of 'The Reckoning of Rance,' at Amazon.

Wow--talk about true quality. The owner is a kind soul who I really enjoyed meeting. He helped me find some new poetry to enjoy. His discount sidewalk cart selection is the best in Portland, not just the stuff nobody wants, and inside you will find precious treasures, both great deals and "splurge" options. If you are looking for rare editions and unusual finds, this is a great place to shop. His selection of poetry is extensive and diverse, as I think that is the owner's special passion. If you have an old soul, you will love this place. I wish I lived closer so that I could stop by often to see what is new. I also love the aesthetic. It's not cramped and stuffed to the gills like many used book shops. It's clean, organized, and curated--a calming sanctuary for book lovers. I just love it.

The best. Today I got books by Tirzah Goldenberg, Georges Perec and Alejandra Pizarnik. Appointment only, mask required during Covid times. I miss going to reading here!

Carefully curated poetry bookshop with rare finds and small exhibits of artists who intersect with literature and conceptual writing. Best to call ahead – the hours are a bit eccentric, and the owner occasionally leaves for personal trips without updating online posted listings.

Fabulous book store. Especially if you're looking for rare or out of print books.
