I’ve been to this place a handful of times and always walk away happy whether I’m having a watch band sized, a battery replaced or having a clasp fixed on a necklace. Always friendly always prompt turnaround. So happy they are in my neighborhood!

My husband and I had a great experience with Nielsen's! We worked with Sarah to upgrade my engagement ring. She listened to what we had in mind and our budget, and clearly explained the options. She amazingly got the ring in before Christmas, which was so appreciated. I love my new ring, it's exactly what I wanted. Sarah is so helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, AND very accommodating! We will definitely be back to Nielsens. Thank you Sarah!

Great experience at Nielsen's. We needed last minute buffing and polishing of wedding rings. Although we did not have an appointment, Sarah made the rings sparkle while we waited. She did this as a complimentary service and also validated our parking.

If locally owned and operated is important to you then Nielsens Jewelers is the place in the rose city for all your jewelry needs. 127 yrs ago Nielsens was founded and their history is fascinating. To stop by and have family still working for the business is incredible to me. They have the most beautiful and one of a kind items you'll ever find. The shop is small, welcoming and a joy to shop in. Trust is a big issue for me and I can rest assure if and when I leave a piece to get sized, prongs tightened or whatever needs to get done. Another bonus? Parking is a breeze and if you use the designated lot they'll validate.

I had an absolutely wonderful experience buying an engagement ring from Nielsen's. Sara was extremely helpful and honest each step of the way. Even when I wasn't able to be there in person, Sara sent me pictures and gave me suggestions on how to make it the perfect ring at a very reasonable price. She even suggested an engraving which made the ring very special and sentimental. My fiancé is so happy every time she looks at her finger. She is constantly getting compliments on the ring. I would highly recommend Nielsen's for any jewelry needs!

The good reviews led me to Nielsen's today. It wasn't a big ticket but a heartfelt search for my granddaughter, turning 8. They couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating; guiding me to a silver necklace & beautiful charm which were perfect! Their care, attention and help were far above & beyond what I expected for a modest gift. Nielsen's is now my Portland jeweler of choice. Top shelf customer service; proof positive that fine art isn't lost.

This shop is such a gem! My fiance and I took his grandmother's engagement ring here to salvage the diamonds and choose a more modern design that fit my style. I absolutely LOVE that I got to take a ring with so much family history to a local shop that's literally the oldest jeweler in Portland and has been family-run for the past five generations. I'm not much of a "jewelry person" as I'm more of an outdoor, low-maintenance, price-conscious gal myself. Before coming to Nielsen's, I spoke with a different jeweler who was very condescending to me. I was worried I'd also feel judged here--but my experience was totally the opposite. Mom and daughter Jan and Sara were so kind and helpful. They immediately made me feel comfortable and truly listened to what I liked aesthetically and what was important to me in a design (I like simple, classic, minimalist styles). They have so many books of designs you can go through, and we were able to find a pre-made setting that was exactly what I wanted and fit my diamond sizes (instead of a custom design, which saved me money!) You could tell they truly had your best interest at heart and weren't just trying to "upsell" you to a more expensive option. They care about you loving your ring! The result speaks for itself. I love the new ring and it was incredibly reasonably priced. I couldn't recommend this place more highly, and I'm so lucky I stumbled upon it.

I have been working with Jan since April, replacing some of the jewelry recently stolen from my mother’s estate. Jan has been very kind and sympathetic about losing both my mother and her jewelry. I have had a lot of little jobs sizing jewelry, replacing batteries, etc., but Jan treated each job as if she was earning a huge commission. She helped me pick out different stones and settings for other pieces, and is very smart, competent and professional.Everything about this jewelry business is top rate, including impeccable service, jewelry pieces, and employees. I will never go anywhere else again and I’m lining up my friends to buy from her business.I am completely happy in every way.

I had a watch battery I was trying to change myself but kept running into issues not having a small enough (and sharp enough, turns out) screwdriver. I took the watch plus new battery in. They helped me figure it out, watched me lose and subsequently find the little damn screw holding the battery in place, installed the new battery for me and then sent me on my way without accepting my offer of payment for the handholding. That's true customer service!

Nielsen's Jewelers is great! The clasp gave out on one of my favorite watches.They were able to get me the right information to order a new band. I was able to get the only one online (blessed lol). Jan did such a great job replaced the custom band, adjusted for a perfect fit for my wrist, and saved one of my classics! Also has extensive knowledge about diamonds and how to get the shine you like. They can also make you your own tailored jewelry and place diamonds for you. Pleasant experience and definetly recommend.

Not enough good things can be said about Nielsen's Jewelers! When you first walk in the door it's like you are apart of the family of this family owned buisness. The jewelry they display is not like all those other jewelry stores in the mall or shopping center. If you want something that is not like everybody elses, you need to go to Nielsen's. You can tell they take pride in what they sell and are very knowledgeable of the product, as well. I have bought several pieces from them over the years for myself and other famliy memebers as gifts. Jan and Sara are very honest, fun and enjoyable to work with. I will continue to only shop for jewerly from Nielsen's!

This is NOT a watch shop (regardless of the many watch services listed on their website). Took a quartz Fossil watch in for a battery change - shop owner broke the chronograph mechanism replacing the battery. Was told to wait a week while they try to 'repair' things. They returned the watch broken and STILL charged for the battery. Now I must wait for the watch to be serviced by Fossil (repair of the broken chronograph). Would not recommend this shop. Was a waste of time. Shop owner's knowledge of timepieces is VERY limited. There are many other watch retailers and servicers in the Portland area who know timepieces and have a respect for the craftsmanship - this is not that shop!

This place is the absolute best! The ladies answered all of my questions and helped me think of a way to keep one of my rings alive for a while longer. I will be back again and again.
