I was briefly visiting from out of state and was looking for a place to train here in Portland. Luckily I ran into nemesis Jiu-Jitsu. They were not only extremely welcoming and cleanly organized, the instruction was articulate and throughly detailed. Each of my training partners were friendly and respectful. I am a firm believer that the people make the sport great, and from the owner all the way down to their newest practitioners it was an excellent experience!

It's almost 5 years later. I'm still training regularly at nemesis. The people here have become my second family. The gyms been remodeled and looks awesome. The coaching is personal, detailed and fun. I can't speak highly enough about this place. Me continuing to train here for almost 5 years should speak to that. If you're new to BJJ or the area come visit. If your a seasoned vet looking to challenge yourself with a different look come on down. If you've always wanted to learn Kung fu and think this is similar it's not. But it will change your perspective on training and gain you many new close friends. Come check us out.

Very enjoyable experience! Visiting from NJ and landed at 11 and walked into Nemisis BJJ at 12. Everyone there was super friendly and welcoming. All showed high level of jiu jitsu knowledge and skill without any ego that may come with a new person visiting from a different academy.. Look forward to me next visit! Jim N

Absolutely proud and honored to have received my purple and brown belt under Eric Hemphill. Amazing gym and my forever home. My heart is always part of this team and I have made some of my best friends at this gym. Amazing home feeling with the amazing Jiu Jitsu to go with it

I have had the pleasure of training in various gyms/academies with a variety of practitioners, ranging from the guy who just wants to learn self defense to UFC fighters. I came to Nemesis for the first time about a year ago and instantly felt comfortable at Nemesis. Everyone introduced themselves and were very welcoming to new additions. More importantly, I would like stress how amazed I was with Eric Hemphill. His knowledge of Jiu Jitsu and small intricacies were nothing but spectacular. His ability to explain a particular movement was a light bulb flashing above my head. I will continue to train here and be a student of Eric Hemphill and the Nemesis way. I highly recommend Nemesis Jiu Jitsu, and I recommend learning from Eric Hemphill even more!!! Eric, thank you for allowing me to train with you and Nemesis, I look forward to learning much more.

Fantastic gym. A lot of very experienced grapplers and a few newbs like me. The crew here couldn't have been more welcoming. I'm hooked. Eric is on another level and all the other coaches are great too. Monday and Friday evenings are the best for beginners. Check out Stewart's fundamentals class at 5:30.

Eric Hemphill is a standout. He moves brilliantly on the mats and embraces old-school Jiu-Jitsu as much as he embraces new-school Jiu-Jitsu. The place is clean and all of the people who train here are very respectful and concientious. A great place for a beginner or a veteran.
