Michaels FurnitureWe had a desk and dresser delivered. When purchasing these products the sales person told me I would have them delivered in two weeks. It would be “white glove” treatment. Unboxed and take away all the debris from the packaging and placed right where we want it. Three weeks later the items were delivered. The two men who came didn’t believe the dresser would make it up the stairs. There was a very long exchange about it not fitting but we continued to ask them to try. Finally, they tried and it fit. They were frustrated and complained about how heavy it was. Once they left, I went to check on the dresser and two drawers will not open. They are locked shut due to a broken mechanism. When I called, I spoke to the sales person who sold me the dresser. I explained that it took them a long time because they refused to measure and wouldn’t try to get it upstairs and that they complained about moving furniture when they are furniture movers. I told him about the drawers. He said, “Mexicans don’t want to work hard and they are lazy. It can be hard to find anyone else who will work so that is who we have”. I said, “What did you just say to me?” He said that “Mexicans just don’t want to do the work” and I said that I called to complain about the dresser and the people who delivered it and now “I have to defend the entire Mexican culture? Do you really believe that all Mexican people are lazy and do not want to work? Who cleans your house and serves you your food? What food do you eat?” He then said he didn’t say that. And said, “Latinos…” I stopped him and asked him to “not talk to me anymore about his ideas about Mexican people and to discuss the dresser only-“and take a class”. He then tried recovering but we moved on. The drawers are broken and it will be another week until they have a new one to deliver. But he stated that there is no such thing as “white glove” delivery from them and he never said that, “only Wayfair does that”. (They SO do not). Then, after a bit he agreed to comp the delivery charge but no discount on the dresser. “Ma’am, this is furniture not apples and peaches! We can’t give a discount on anything!” A bit more back and forth before we hung up. Apples and peaches can be discounted because of the brown labor that picks them for our country? Is that the implication? You promise one thing and (literally) delivered another. This is my fourth purchase at Michael’s and, sadly, my last.

I was helped by an older gentleman earlier this week… my husband and I were dressed casually while we went furniture hunting for a move in three weeks. I was wearing a tank top and shorts, while also being openly Hispanic. I struggle to think where I went wrong. My husband was wearing his warehouse vest and we had our two year old in tow. We were treated like trash… The gentleman insinuated that we were only there for the air conditioning (You know, to get off the streets…). I was hoping to furnish an entire apartment with you guys, but sadly I don’t think I will be doing business here ever again. I didn’t realize that being a furniture salesman was so high caliber that it gives anyone license to discriminate. I visited the other showroom and was treated far better, but that visit left such a bad taste in my mouth, I can’t imagine spending my money here. Sorry to tell you, my hard earned money and credentials are worth a lot more than your prejudices. Good job ?? You work in sales… on 181st street… Glad I’m not you. That gentleman is losing you sales opportunities. He made no effort to leave his racism at home where it belongs. We told him what brought us in and he acted as though we were lying… just blatant disbelief. It was so outlandish, I didn’t quite understand where his attitude was coming from. Oh well, no skin off my [wet] back…

Great service and they work with you to match online prices and even beat them sometimes. Have bought 3 bedroom sets from here and one living set and dining table. Best price/value in town.

SUBTLE RACISM IS STILL RACISM... I came in a little over a week ago looking for a chest for my bedroom. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by Van, the owner and I told him what I was looking for. He then said "WHY WOULD YOU WANT SOMETHING THAT SMALL IS IT BECAUSE YOU LIVE IN A SMALL PLACE?" I didn't think much of the comment because it seemed like a normal question to me at the time. I simply replied that I didn't have much to store. I looked around and told him I couldn't find what I was looking for and he suggested I take a look at their furniture in the next building. He added " ITS CHEAPER AND WILL PROBABLY BE MORE WITHIN YOUR PRICE RANGE" the thing is, I didn't give him a range. I felt his micro aggressions from a mile away. I'm a successful business owner, work full time at a nonprofit, and & grew up in a house that is 3,000+sqft which we still own today along with several other properties but all he could analyze based on my appearance was the color of my skin... none of that should even matter. What matters is that I'm a person before all of that, and my money should be considered as good as the next man. Ever since I moved to Portland, i've been managing micro aggression like my life depends on it. This city isn't as kind and liberal as it's been made out to be. I definitely won't be staying much longer if this kind of behavior is what I'm up against everywhere I go. I don't usually write reviews but I felt violated and I had to say something. STAY AWAY!!!

Good place with a fair selection of nice furniture. There wasn't much low quality stuff or the particle board junk that falls apart. The downside is that it also did not supply much selection. It felt like most of the stuff was very similar and there weren't even catalogs available that expanded on the options.
