One of the only non yuppie stores around here, the whole street feels gentrified with most of the overpriced businesses (eyesores) this is a classic bookstore you can love that has lots of affordable new and mostly used books, and they have a variety, down the street there is a store that sells mostly cook books but small inventory and is again a yuppie store so that is just ugly and annoying.

One of the best bookstores in the country. A absolute gem.

I come here whenever I’m back in town. I always come away with a book or two. Best selection you’ll find. Awesome store!

I don't know how my review of this wonderful store got deleted (I blame myself) but, man, this place is fantastic. First of all, the owner Mitch knows his stuff and by knows his stuff, I mean he knows what books he's got. I don't know how he does it but he can tell you if they have a title you're looking for. Second, Mitch makes *great* choices for both fiction and non-fiction. Third, the collection of books just outside the front door are worth a look! Everything is reasonably priced. I've been there several times. When I want a new book, I'll go to Powells. When I want a used book in great condition? You'll find me at Melville.

Despite the small space, I think I bought more books here than I have at any bookstore I've been to in many years. Mitch's curation is just spectacular for my tastes. Great if you're interested in literature, philosophy, and art.

Book readers will love the place. A bit small, but lots and lots of books from different genres.

Very enchanting location for a bookstore! Down a little walkway behind a house. They had great deals and good finds!

Hands down the best-curated bookshop this side of the Mississippi. If you love literature and are visiting Portland, skip Powells and come straight here.

I discovered Meville Books because my phone was nearly dead, and for a brief few minutes I was listening to the world around me instead of drowning it out with headphones and 2010s top hits....and there it was, a completely random chance when I came across this tucked away gem off of Alberta. There are few things more endearing than a book shop with too many books, and there's no limit to the variety in stock. Whether you're a philosophy fan and picking up a used copy of Nietzsche at you Hinger date's recommendation (spoiler: it didn't work out), or wanting to pick up something more recent, and palatable - you'll likely find it here.

Awesome. What a cool little nook... It's as if this place happens by accident

The best curated used book store I’ve been to. A definite focus on lit, both English and foreign translations. I’d say the name says it all: if you’ve read Melville and loved it you’ll love Melville (books). My sincere thanks to the owner of this shop and I really wish them success so I can continue to be a patron.
