Wonderful bookstore with lots of titles related to the Japanese culture including Manga and Anime. Besides the books you'll find merchandise like vento boxes, chopsticks, plush figures, plates and more based on Ghibli Studios movies.

I'm glad I don't live in Portland because I'd be spending way too much money on stationary here on a weekly basis.

It's a good store for those who are interested in Japanese or "weeb" culture in the Portland area, and they do have a lot of cool knick knacks and things to check out and possibly buy. It's an excellent choice for a gift shop and they have a lot of affordable "stocking stuffers" and little presents you could get for someone or even yourself. It can get busy at times, but its popularity makes sense. It being downtown makes it difficult to find parking, but it's worth the trip. I went on a weekend and there was only one cashier doing the work, so the line was long, which I didn't appreciate, but service was quick and friendly.

Every Kinokuniya is always good, but every Kinokuniya has a very unique experience, and this is definitely one to hit up. Love the selection of books! Although, I'd like to see more things in Japanese (especially the plethora of Japanese magazines imported), but at the end of the day, the selection of translated books, or books with both languages in the same book are pretty good. Books aside, the candies, toys and things are definitely worth a look!

My go-to bookstore in the city. I absolutely love all of the stationary, notebooks, pens, figures, and all genres of japanese printed books. The manga here is always well-stocked, and they have quite a selection of re-released series that have been out of print and republished. I appreciate the variety of classics mixed among the new series. Love the artbooks and the gundam kits as well as kit-building supplies. Can't say enough good things. One thing that's different here, compared to the flagship store in San Francisco, is the display of the books. The SF store displays the majority (not all) of the japanese language books by cover outward so that it's easy to see the subject but at this store, many are spine-out...so it can be a bit more difficult to find things unless you can read the language. The cool part is that this encourages exploration, and I can spend hours here doing that!

So happy Portland finally has a full sized Kinokuniya! The one inside Uwajimaya in Beaverton is great, but much smaller than the other one I've visited in San Francisco. Great selection, bright and beautiful store

Security here isn't so great. They profiled me, stalked me and missed the real thief.
