If high-quality, beautiful framing to complement fine art prints is what you seek, this is the place to go.There are lots of handmade and unusual options, and it’s truly remarkable how the framing here can enhance an already beautiful piece of work. You may pay more here than elsewhere in town, but for fine art that really deserves the boutique treatment, Katayama is my go-to.

Framing is good but not inexpensive (very few are nowadays) but calling it "framing" is only part of the story. It's a gallery as well. Aside from rotating exhibits they have a decent store of works from artists. I presume these are from prior shows.

New to KF, I experienced encouragement and a discerning validation from consulting artisans at KF, adding confidence and a reassurance in reframing a long held work of personal value. Beyond the exacting requirements of a custom frame build, at long last, I discovered the belief in consultants I had really hungered for. Kudos to Katayama.

I recently had three pieces framed at Katayama framing - an old oil painting, a watercolor and a very large poster. John Huff assisted me with picking the frames and was extremely helpful with advice and also very knowledgeable and friendly. Price was as I expected and on par with other framers. I just hung the last two pieces today and am beyond thrilled! The frames not only complement the pieces, but improve them. Even the one where I was on the fence about the frame is perfect thanks to John and his eye. These were all sentimental pieces and I am so glad that I got them properly framed. Thank you John and Katayama framing!

The amazing new exhibit from Don Gray and Sally Squire is so much more than the sum of its parts. I walked in and was astounded by the complementary creativity in this space. I know for a fact that each of Sally Squire's colors are unique and made especially for each piece, and yet Don Gray's paintings completed the look of her ceramics. Truly worth looking at. Come down and see this.

Simply Amazing on the first job .... Not so much on next job. Amazingly expensive, even more amazing wait for the finished work ... 8 weeks. You could drop off the work to be framed, go have a total hip replacement surgery, go to a rehab facility to relearn walking, when your rehab is complete ... Your job might be done. But you better call first because they didn't call me ... I called them, was told the job was done, drove down to pick up the framed work ... Not done. Was told I would be called the next week, nope, I called and after 8 weeks the job was done.

I've had lithographs, vintage film posters and photographs framed at Katayama as well as having vintage frames restored. Along the way, they've created custom designs, bespoke wood stains, coordinated linen backing, and have always had creative and unique ideas when it comes to materials and techniques. Long story short, I love them. And I'm really happy they're in Portland.
