Absolutely amazing people. They diagmosed and took care of the issue immediately, and were very courteous and extremely honest. And the price was a real surprise as well for the better.

I am extremely disappointed with K & M automotive. After having brought both of my vehicles here for emergency + regular maintenance over the past year, I just recently had a really bad experience.
I went on a road trip in my 2006 Toyota Sienna to Los Angeles (225k miles). I had just had a new starter and battery put in by K &M (2/6/2024, fine job, no issues), and on 1/30/2024 had the valve cover gasket, fuel injection plenum gasket + all 6 spark plugs replaced. When they did that job they had to remove the intake manifold to reach the back cylinders + spark plugs (1, 3, 5).
They told me that they removed and replaced the spark plugs, and when they did this job the clips to the ignition coils all broke (this is to be expected because its an older vehicle and the plastic gets brittle).
They never told me that the clips broke, or how they were going to remedy the situation. The way they fixed it was by using an epoxy, as well as using zip ties, to connect the wiring assembly to the ignition coils.
There was no rush for me to get the vehicle back, so there was no reason that they should not have done the job correctly, which is to replace the clips on the wiring assembly so that the ignition coils are securely connected (heat/temperature fluctuation will loosen the connection over time).
While I was on my road trip, all the way down in LA, one of the ignition coils started misfiring. It was diagnosed, initially, as a loose connection.
For a mechanic to be able to JUST look at the ignition coil #1, they had to remove the intake manifold, which was a $520 job. Then they had to replace all 6 ignition coil connectors, which cost $209.94, just for the parts (not including labor).
I was told by multiple mechanics, as I had to shop around down there, that this was a poorly done job and that it was only the type of job they would do if someone was in a rush to get their car back and there were no parts (wiring assembly/ignition coil clips) available.
I called the K & M office and asked about how they would do this job, and they told me that they normally give people the option, which they did not do.
Had this job been done correctly the first time around, or if K & M would have given me the option for them to do the job correctly, I would have been able to avoid this problem and saved nearly a thousand dollars on a car repair that temporarily left me stranded in Los Angeles, needing to drive back to Portland.
I'm extremely disappointed because I like the people that work there and trusted them for the past year with both of my vehicles and won't be returning back to this automotive center.
I don't think they are bad people or dishonest, but I do think they did a poor job and left me in a bad situation that could have been avoided by doing the job properly the first time.
I was hoping they would try to remedy the situation for me by compensating the amount I had to pay out just to get the intake manifold off, plenum gasket replaced, and clips replaced, but the vibe I got was that I was SOL.
I hope other people have a better experience here, and it's a bummer because it's my neighborhood shop. I hope you guys can do better with the next person that comes in!

These fine folks took me in near the end of their business day. They were so very kind and non-judgmental. Chris and Jackie did all they could to help me, and I am very grateful. Please give them your business if you are in the area! A big hearty recommendation from me.

K&M’s mechanic solved car problem that had stumped mechanics at previous garage. Car now running beautifully. I will be taking my Nissan Versa to K&M from now on. Thank you, K&M.

I appreciate how quickly they made time for me and the diagnostic process with photos. I’ll likely return when I need help trouble shooting and for questions on repairs.

I’ve called like 5 times in the past year with a variety of issues on 2 different cars and got told no every single time. From changing the down pipe, to switching out a rear cable on my GTI. Les Schwab did it all in like 5 minutes. What does this shop even do?

I have tried other shops in town and I can say these people know what they are doing. They are very communicative, honest and their prices are very reasonable. I took my car in because my head and brake lights were burned out. They replaced the bulbs at no charge. It felt odd not to pay for the replacement bulbs. Now on, this will be my goto shop for car repairs.
