AUTO RENTERS BEWARE! This location likes to add additional services that you do not agree to. We were surprised with an ADDITIONAL $500+ in “add on coverages”. We noticed this and called within moments of getting into the vehicle. The 800 service line said to just go to a local Hertz to correct. After arriving to a different location, we were told, “we see this all the time, and unfortunately we cannot do anything about it”. So we left, called the 800 line again to be told, we’ve notated the issue, and you can handle this issue upon returning the vehicle. I stated, I do not want to have this issue when I return the vehicle. “Sir you have my word it is noted in the system and it will be fine”. Guess what, it wasn’t fine. Nothing was notated and they tried to stick us with everything. But the Manager at the desk stated she fought tooth and nail for us and they could take off 1/2 of the unauthorized added fees. So, this will be a fun dispute. Again, BEWARE and consider other companies when renting a vehicle.

Just picked up a rental on Sunday, had a great experience with Kassandra. She was the only representative on staff at that moment but it was around 10 at night and she was able to help 3 different reservations within a very adequate time considering. Had amazing customer service skills and etiquette with not only me but the other two reservations as well. Was in my rental within 20 minutes of reaching the front desk.

It sucks! Be aware!!Really bad customer service. The male agent with the curly hair at the pickup kiost told us we can pick any car from the Gold Zone but in fact there’s no available cars in the zone and we had to wait for 2 hours to get the car. Meanwhile, another customer who comes after us but with a higher status can get assigned a car! There are many cars available but they don’t put it in the Gold Zone! In the end we were charged with a SUV price to pick up a midsize car. So bad!!

I am a Hertz Gold member. I recently rented a car in Portland, OR. I made a mistake on the dates of a rental. The agent said "no problem, we can modify the rental dates and have you on your way." What he didnt tell me is that his modification would cost me $177.00 more than my original rental. Minimally, he should have told me that the rental wwould be at a higher cost. Then I tried to fix it through Hertz customer service and they were completely unhelpful. Not going back to Hertz any time soon.

Hertz just can't get its act together. I am a gold member and reservations do not get entered properly and the vehicles are either the wrong class or my reservation cancelled. Seems I need to switch companies to one that provides proper customer service

My flight was delayed to Portland, Oregon. I attempted to call the airport hertz but no one answered and it continually kicked me back to the automated system. It was frustrating in attempting to get someone on the phone for 15 minutes. I finally did and she made note that my flight was late and that I would be arriving past 12:30am. I received a text that my confirmation was updated. We arrived in portland and no one was at the Hertz counter. In fact all the other rental companies had representatives at their counter except Hertz. The counter opened back up at 7am so we decided to sleep in the airport for five hours waiting. All other counters arrived at 6:30am and setup. Hertz arrived at 7:15am. I explained what happened to the gentleman who did not utter an apology, explanation or anything. He simply said that as a Gold member, I could pick any car in the lot. The lot had only four cars to choose from and all other cars were off limits in the reserved section. This interaction gave me the feeling that Hertz did not care for its long standing customers.

Absolutely horrible experience. This is one of the worst Hertz I've been to. So unorganized and totally chaotic. This was the reason I switched from Budget to Hertz, so I don't have to deal with chaotic people. The people inside finalizing the rentals have no idea that there are no cars in the lot. Had to wait 25 mins outside in the lot so they could pull a car in. The people inside told me to "pick any car you like" but there were no cars to pick from. This location is by far the worse. Makes me want to cancel my booking and get an Uber now.

Snuck insurance into my contract after I specifically told them I did not need it since my employer (in the auto industry) covers my insurance. Customer service refused to offer refund. Told me I signed a contract but refused to provide a copy of the contract. Told me there were no supervisors on duty. Later told me a supervisor would contact me within 24 hours. That was over three days ago. Never again.

Complete lack of service. I just switched to Hertz Gold Presidents Club and this was my first rental. They gave me an extremely old Honda suv with glazed over headlights. I switched to another car and they gave me a filthy Chevy Malibu which had an odor of urine. I don’t believe it had been previously cleaned. I asked for another car and they said all other vehicles were already assigned. The staff working the front desk giggled and tickled each other, non stop flirting with one another as though I wasn’t standing there. Drop off was equally disorganized. When dropping off, there was no one there checking in vehicles. Total joke, I’m going back to Avis.

Terrible customer service. We had a flight delay and made multiple calls to let them know we would arrive late for our pick up time. Not one call was answered and the mail box was full. Went to our reservation and noted the time change of our arrival. No available car on arrival. He told us "If you had gotten here earlier, you would have had a car.". Well if you would answer the phone we could have updated our reservation. The young man at Dollar rental did what he could to help us out for the night. We don't have Dollar where I'm from, but I'll sure give them a try when traveling.

This Hertz is sadly both my most frequent rental location, and the worst, most poorly managed location I've ever encountered.Presidents circle member with several dozen rentals minimum ever year, and never experience the types and frequency of issues I've had here.General issues:- Of the last half dozen visits, the gold help desk that several signs send members to is closed, no gold line is provided in the rental center and lines are regularly 45+ minutes- More than 50% of the time, even when renting a standard/midsize sedan that qualifies for Ultimate Choice my name is not up on the board.- PC aisle is almost always empty, even when Gold/Five Star aisles are well stocked - this is a management and training failure. And when it is stocked, often the car selection is older, lower tier, more beat up cars than the Gold/5* aisles.- They have been "understaffed" since covid. Most of their front-line staff are trying extremely hard and very apologetic, but the validity of the staffing issues excuse has long expired and every other rental agency at this location is well staffed and well stocked.- Of dozens of Hertz locations I've been to and rented Tesla's from, this is the *only* one that does not keep the keys in them (even though *all* other vehicles have keys in them and ready to go), so regularly, even though you've reserved a premium car for a premium price, spent the many thousands of dollars a year to earn PC status and not have to wait 45+ minutes in the general line, you get to anyways. For them to check your ID (that is already on file) and find the key - that is sometimes up in the locked gold counter so you then get to wait for them to find an available employee to go up there and find it.- The manager, Jon or Joe (not sure but something similar to this) is extremely dismissive and rude. See note below:Last two rentals:- Rented a Tesla Model Y for a premium price. This is clearly advertised as a "Guaranteed Vehicle Type". Arrived on time, name not on board. Gold counter closed. Go down to rental center, wait in 45 minute line for the single rep working that is trying her best. Find out they have no Model Ys. Ask for any comparably sized or larger SUVs. None available. Push back and am told the manager, Jon/Joe will come help me get an SUV. He does - I share frustrations about their lack of staff/service/operational issues and how unfortunate it is that this leads to very kind employees being stuck carrying the bag and dealing with the frustration for management failures. Dismissed and told well you know staffing is hard everywhere. Ignored when I point out that every other rental group we walk by has their member desks open and that every one of them had multiple agents staffing the rental center and no lines.-----Joe/Jon does find me an SUV, a compact base model SUV - one I would expect to find in the ultimate choice aisle. I mention to Joe/Jon that I would expect this to be a car I get from UC for the price of a medium sedan, not the price of a Premium EV, but that I'm already very delayed. Says he will take care of it and to just give them a call when it was convenient.----- I called and navigated the phone tree to talk to a local employee more than a dozen times over several days. The line rings for several minutes, goes to a voicemail that is full and hangs up on you.---- I reach out to Hertz corporate support and they tell me they will have the manager contact me as soon as possible. Over the course of the next three weeks I follow up with them multiple times and they confirm every time that they have asked the manager again to reach out. Never happened. Corporate finally adjusted the rate and credited points (so good on them for covering for this managers failures)Next rental...- Rent a midsize SUV. Still not on board, finally get SUV that reeks of smoke. Just accepted it since why bother fighting with them at this point

I have been a Gold member for some time and had the worst rental car experience at this Hertz PDX location. My flight from Washington, DC on July 14 was delayed by several hours. I arrived at the Gold member location looking to pick up my car but my name was not on the board. When I proceeded to go to the help desk, I found out there was no one there to help me because it was 'after hours.' The other rental car companies including Avis and Thrifty all were staffed and helping their customers. I asked the Avis employees why they were still there despite them being officially closed and they said it's because they track their customers' flight information and stay late to help them. Hertz apparently does not do this despite me providing my flight info at the time I made my rental reservation. My advice to anyone is to avoid Hertz at all costs if you are coming in on an evening East Coast flight as they will leave you high and dry without a car if your flight is delayed past their closing time. Arriving with two young children late at night night without a way to get to your hotel is miserable. Thankfully, the gentleman at Avis was able to help me obtain a car at the last minute, but I had to pay more money than my original reservation with Hertz. Because of this horrible experience, I will no longer patronize Hertz at PDX or any other airport

Exorbitant hidden fees. Aggressive upselling tactics at the check-out counter, catching travel-weary customers unawares.I reserved my car for nearly $800 months before my trip. They charged my card an additional $1,200 after I turned it in, perfectly clean and with more than a half-tank of gas as agreed. When I protested the charges, I got the typical song and dance about how they strive to provide the best customer service blah blah etc., which is clearly not what they are trying to do.They are taking advantage of unsuspecting customers to pay their legal fees. Here’s the backstory: Multiple stories ran in the news about how they were reporting people for stealing cars they had actually rented. Investigations discovered that they did that to recoup some major losses incurred by illegal activities among their corrupt top leadership. There was a big class-action lawsuit and they lost, to the tune of several hundred million. They are passing the cost of their leadership’s criminal conduct onto unsuspecting consumers.Stay away from this company. Like many other multinational corporations, this one has sold its soul to the dark forces.

As a Gold member, car rental at Hertz is usually very uneventful. I arrive, go straight to where the cars are with the large sign with my name and area where I can go pick up the car. Get into a car and then check out.Today, we had a little bit of a hiccup on the charges. I did not realize this until I got to the hotel. I tried calling this location directly with no luck, no one picked up the phone after 5 tries. I was only about 10mins from the airport so I decided to go back and go to the counter to speak with someone. There was a line... now I realized why no one picked up the phone. Then it was my turn. I was greeted by Nina. Showed her my rental agreement and showed her the issue. She did not hesitate to tell me she will see what she can do. Then proceeded to make the changes on my rental agreement to what I should have been charged. I so appreciate her going above and beyond to help me. Yes, if I was not staying closer to the airport, I do not know if I would have gone back to the counter. Yes, if I was here in PDX for a limited time, I would not have gone back to the counter to speak with someone.Glad all worked out and was helped out so easily.
