Listen. I know this is Portland and we are supposed to hold up those who are struggling and on the fringe, but this juice was not worth the squeeze. This older gentleman is very nice and I’m sure he has a following, but he absolutely put a dull edge on my Shun knives.
Had to take my knives elsewhere to have them redone and re-do the damaged edges.
I called him ahead of time to ask if he was able to sharpen kitchen knives: he was standard Portland weird rude.
When I got there he said one or two words to me. After sharpening the knives by hand/sight, he said wash them off before you use them and that was about it. I got home and could not cut a lemon in half. I would take your sharpening needs elsewhere.
I’m sure he’s very nice but I’m done here.

It was my first time coming to this location and it was horrible. I brought 3 chef knives to be sharpened. He ruined them all by rounding the edge off. I can't even cut a freaking lime. Never coming here again!

Brought in my knives two or more weeks ago, Knives I have used over the course of my lifetime in the kitchen. Is it possible for them to come back duller than when I brought them in.

We chose this place based upon the reviews we read online. We brought in 8 knives--that we use every day--chef knives, cake knife, bread knife, paring knives, two Furi knives. Our knives, we discovered when we got home, were made astonishingly DULL! Rather than making them sharper, they were made dull! And we paid for this! They will not cut anything!! If we cannot find an electric knife sharpener to purchase to correct this--we will have to replace ALL of our knives.

I was looking for a place to get my knives sharpened, only to find blatantly racism on their website. Yikes.

The guy working here (sounded like the owner) seems to have a lot of chips on his shoulder from the signs on the front door telling people to not be idiots and him ranting to the other guest about how an adjacent store always has the dumpster overfilled (I parked next to the dumpster which was unlocked and not overflowing). He continued to make some baseless claims about the adjacent business as well. The store itself has old town antique store vibes where there is miscellaneous stuff all over. Took me a while to find what I was looking for as I couldn't get help due to him being the only one there and in his rant about the neighboring business. Ultimately I ended up in not purchasing anything as the selection of what I was looking for was quite limited (spyderco) and not being able to get service.

Decent prices and the owner is more than happy to answer any questions. Very knowledgeable in the history of many of the items there.

Great environment, very friendly staff, and a wonderful selection of knives, swords, and all sorts of bladed tools and decorative pieces. If you are a collector, this is the best shop to visit in Portland, possibly the entire PNW.

This is all I am going to say fellow Yelpers... This Cutlery Shop is BADASS. Customer Service was simply the best... had a extensive collection of vintage cutlery and kitchen paraphernalia. David even had a great sense of humor and also recommend some good local eateries which I tried and now recommend to others. If you need your knives sharpened or just need to buy another knife to add to your collection then Hawthorne Cutlery is your spot. So let it be written... So let it be Sharpened.

Place is constantly locked and you need to get buzzed in, I frequently pass the store and would love to stop in and browse but since you need to wait for someone to unlock the door it’s very unappealing and unwelcoming.
