Brought in my knives two or more weeks ago, Knives I have used over the course of my lifetime in the kitchen. Is it possible for them to come back duller than when I brought them in.

We chose this place based upon the reviews we read online. We brought in 8 knives--that we use every day--chef knives, cake knife, bread knife, paring knives, two Furi knives. Our knives, we discovered when we got home, were made astonishingly DULL! Rather than making them sharper, they were made dull! And we paid for this! They will not cut anything!! If we cannot find an electric knife sharpener to purchase to correct this--we will have to replace ALL of our knives.

I was looking for a place to get my knives sharpened, only to find blatantly racism on their website. Yikes.

The guy working here (sounded like the owner) seems to have a lot of chips on his shoulder from the signs on the front door telling people to not be idiots and him ranting to the other guest about how an adjacent store always has the dumpster overfilled (I parked next to the dumpster which was unlocked and not overflowing). He continued to make some baseless claims about the adjacent business as well. The store itself has old town antique store vibes where there is miscellaneous stuff all over. Took me a while to find what I was looking for as I couldn't get help due to him being the only one there and in his rant about the neighboring business. Ultimately I ended up in not purchasing anything as the selection of what I was looking for was quite limited (spyderco) and not being able to get service.

Great environment, very friendly staff, and a wonderful selection of knives, swords, and all sorts of bladed tools and decorative pieces. If you are a collector, this is the best shop to visit in Portland, possibly the entire PNW.

This is all I am going to say fellow Yelpers... This Cutlery Shop is BADASS. Customer Service was simply the best... had a extensive collection of vintage cutlery and kitchen paraphernalia. David even had a great sense of humor and also recommend some good local eateries which I tried and now recommend to others. If you need your knives sharpened or just need to buy another knife to add to your collection then Hawthorne Cutlery is your spot. So let it be written... So let it be Sharpened.

Place is constantly locked and you need to get buzzed in, I frequently pass the store and would love to stop in and browse but since you need to wait for someone to unlock the door it’s very unappealing and unwelcoming.

I haven't been to this great store for a little over two (2) years now, thanks to COVID-19 curtailing my trips out to Portland, OR to visit family over Christmas. Thankfully, both the store and the owner were just as I remembered them to be. The amount and diversity of the inventory here is outstanding. It's like a museum where you get to purchase the exhibits! The owner is awesome, so knowledgeable and very patient with me as I gawked at all of the great knives for sale. I ended up purchasing four (4) knives and I am, once again, very pleased with my experience. I highly recommend this shop to anyone who likes knives as the inventory and the service are outstanding!

I purchased an absolutely beautiful authentic leather knife roll to give as a Christmas gift from Hawthorne Cutlery. The price was extremely low for the quality of item that I received. The owner was so helpful and kind. This is a gift that will be cherished for years to come! Thank you so much!

My son and I were looking for chefs knives and I was looking to invest in a good parring knife too.Dale (the owner), took his time explaining the differences between blade styles, functionality, and manufacturing. He didn’t rush us, try to upsell us, or talk us into buying something we didn’t need.I ended up purchasing two Knives. The Apogee 8.5” Dragonfire chefs knife, and the Apogee Dragon classic 3.5” parring knife. My son wanted to look at some Japanese knives and Dave was very supportive, letting him know it was important to try a variety of knives.I loved the sign out in front of his store. Dale has a witty sense of humor and friendly. He is the type of person you just know is trustworthy when talking to him. He made the whole process very enjoyable.I plan on returning to make some additional purchases.

Came here because it was recommended as I had 2 classic Cutco knives I needed sharpened, but I shouldn’t have bothered. Weird anti-social hand written signs posted all over the entrance and the interior and front display windows looked like a dusty used flea market. Wanted to support local, but couldn’t take them seriously.None of this would have bothered me if they had any actual customer service. They’ve locked the door to only allow one customer at a time (COVID protocol?) and then let you stand and wait without communication. Of course it’s sprinkling. Waited in the cold as the owner was the only one to address me and simply said it would be a couple of minutes as they were helping the one person allowed inside. Afterwards he just walked out leaving only one employee working. As I waited another woman walked up and tried asking questions and the employee half answered her questions through the locked gate to which she just gave up explaining what she needed and chose to wait. When he finally came to the door he ignored that I was there first as he had already seen me waiting but instead addressed then allowed the other woman to go first. He told me I had to wait even longer for a knife sharpening with no further details as to why. Beyond disappointed as I was planning on buying more kitchen knives based on what I heard about them. I told him never mind, that I was leaving and gave my business to someone else.

I forgot what a pleasure it is to use a sharpened knife - thanks Hawthorne Cutlery! 5 minutes and minimal cash later, all my dull knives were sharp and I even got some entertaining banter for free.
