I’ve had several experiences here, I try to visit for a class when I’m in town. This is a genuine, home grown Portland jiu jitsu school with awesome teachers, awesome students (I roll with random people and always a good experience), and amazing beautiful facility. Real Portland vibe, hope everyone gets to enjoy this place for a long time.

I've trained with Josh for years- he is the man. Gym is in a chill spot and the remodeling looks great. Cant beat it.

Awesome awesome place. Everyone is extremely welcoming, and Josh is pretty freaking cool ? the new location is really nice (old expanded upstairs location) looking forward to representing the team when it comes time for me to compete again.

Great instruction. So much focus on the fine details that can make or break a position. People are fun and down to earth. Might be hard to find, but worth the search

The best basement jiu-jitsu anywhere.

Great vibes, not super structured which is nice. After a few classes, noticed a good mix of belts coming in, meaning people stay. Everyone gets along, fun light banter, etc. Good group to roll around with.

From the moment I stepped into Eastside Grappling I knew it was going to be the best jiu-jitsu in a basement the world has to offer. But for real the environment is so welcoming and positive and about improving not just your grappling but also who you are as a t-rex... I mean person.

Josh is one of the best grappling coaches I've ever had in my 10+ years of training. He knows who to bring the best out of every one of his students. Great crew, great gym.

One of the best places to learn Jiu Jistu in Portland. While the gym can be a bit hard to find at first, it's definitely worth it. Class sizes are small, ensuring lots of individual attention. The group of people that train here are all friendly, fun, competitive and want to help you become a better grappler. Josh Botkin's teaching style is fun and his attention to detail is amazing. I always learn something new and have a great time at every class.

I've known Josh for a few years as both a training partner and as a friend. His jiu jitsu knowledge is both vast and incredibly technical. His quality as a jiu jitsu practitioner is one thing, but his qualities as a human being are beyond stellar. He is always in a great mood, always smiling. He is always willing to train, teach, and chat with anyone. Lastly, he possess one of the finest tuned senses of humor I know. I look forward to watching his success for years to come.
