This is a great shop and one of my favorites in Portland. Friendly people and a wide range of interesting used gear… tons of cool vintage amps, pedals, guitars and basses. Also home of the butt guitar…

This is my neighborhood guitar store and luckily they are all super friendly and helpful with reasonable prices. They have some real instrumental oddities in there and can tell you info about them so it’s fun to chat with them about the instruments they are selling. Also I’m a beginner on guitar and always feel weird going into guitar shops because I don’t really know much about guitars but I got zero judgement here, just good vibes.

Brought my guitar in for a fix and Kelly got it working again in under 10 minutes and told me how to prevent further problems. Great shop with friendly and knowledgeable staff! Thanks again, Kelly!

Cool shop in Portland. Purchased one guitar from them in the past and they were helpful. Today when I walked in it was like I was wasting their time.

Really great selection of used gear, came in looking for a jazzmaster and grumpy luthier behind the counter gave me the “everyone comes in here wanting a damn jazzmaster” speech. 10/10 circlejerk moment

Centaur sold me a used guitar about a year ago, and I've been back for service on it a couple times. Every time they hook me up with repairs for stupidly cheap, or sometimes free, and I couldn't be more grateful. They stand by their work and they do a great job. Also, outrageously knowledgeable staff.

The good people at Centaur Guitar carry on the tradition of a musician-friendly, locally-owned music store where anyone --from a rank beginner to a seasoned semi-pro-- can get good advice, instrument repairs and fair prices. You'll be treated as a peer, not just a customer.

I was VERY impressed with my visit to Centaur Guitar! Selection is HUGE (much larger than one would expect when looking at it from the outside), the staff is EXTREMELY knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly, and prices are LOW. They carry a huge variety of electric guitars, acoustic guitars, amplifiers, and accessories. They also offer setup and repair services. They sell both new and used items. Their used items were unanimously in extremely great condition, and did not appear to be used. A few things to note if you visit: *There is a small, private parking lot *The entrance on the building that is on the same side of the gate as the parking lot is not actually for Centaur Guitar, it is for an amplifier repair service that shares the building. *The entrance for Centaur Guitar is on the street side of the building, past the parking lot gate. *To enter, one must ring the doorbell, and an employee will open the door to let you in *There are no centaurs available for sale
