I used to go to Powell’s but I recently switched to Broadway books after hearing Anne Patchett rave about them :) They have a smaller collection and they’re a bit more expensive but I enjoy the experience more and the lovely employees are always up to chat about books. It’s a heavenly escape from the real world when I get to wander their books. They happily special order anything they don’t have in stock and I always see lots of regulars coming in for their orders. Today I overheard people chatting about the everybody reads book and I was happy to join the conversation. This is what I imagine a bookshop should be. Many thanks to Broadway books.

This place is a neighborhood treasure for selection, knowledge and longevity. Broad range of subjects and always tasteful. Smiling, happy workers. Legendary like Powell’s but without the crowds. Magazines and cards, too. Parking can be a bit challenging around Broadway. Great bakery across the street.

I love this small bookstore. The people that work there are friendly and I always end up buying books as gifts from their table displays. Love to support our local shops, especially good ones like this one!

I am based in London, but wanted to purchase a signed copy of Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed. I had to get it ordered to a friend in the US who was able to bring it over to the UK on their travels. I struggled to pay for my order online as my credit card is UK-based, but Kim was fantastic in assisting me with the payment and really went above and beyond. I now hold the copy in my hand. Thank you, Kim! Fantastic customer service.

Lovely "Right Sized" book store. Perfect for browsing and finding just what you need or want in just the right amount of time - not too fast, not too slow... Help if you want it, leave you to yourself if you don't. You can pre-order, pre-pay and have the book ready and waiting to pop in and pick up if you want, or you can walk in the front door with only the vaguest notion and walk out with a years supply for the book club. Perfect little bookstore. The people who work there know their stuff and love to share it.

I visited 8 bookstores while traveling through Portland and this one was my favorite! I appreciated how the books were organized and found the store to be just the right size. The staff was also very friendly (as were all the other bookstores' staff!).

A cute local bookstore right off Broadway St.Great place for buying a book for someone special! I recently came here on Independent Bookstore Day + they had some special deals and a wheel to spin for extra prizes. I was looking for a sci-fi book for a birthday gift for my dad - and they were able to recommend one with the space theme I was looking for. I was also able to get 20% off the book that day. They even offered to wrap the book, and did a lovely wrapping job for no charge :-)

Browse and discover new authors at this terrific small neighborhood bookstore on NE Broadway. The staff always have good recommendations and if for some reason they don’t have what you’re looking for are happy to order things for you (which, to me is much better than an anonymous Amazon package showing up at the front door).
