Love this place. They let me bring my greencheek in to check for compatibility in finding my pineapple a friend. He's been plucking after his buddy died. Now he's happy as can be.

I love this place. My wife has gotten a couple of birds from there before we were together. Her last bird was a beautiful little cockatiel named Martini. She was the most beautiful bird I've ever known. I wasn't a bird fan before Martini. I fell in love with her. For 6 years she was our daughter together. Sadly our baby passed last month at 9 years old. We will forever love and miss her. We came back to bird hut to kind of heal our wounds and the staff was so nice to us. The let some of the birds out to fly around and some of them landed on us and let us play with them. It was beautiful. It helped us to heal. We are now on a wait list to adopt a new forever friend into our lives. Thank you Bird Hut.

I have come here since moving back to Portland in 2019. I adore the funky nature of the business, the personality of it all, the knowledge and friendliness of the staff. They have such a great, healthy selection of birds, and I've purchased 4 owl finches from them in the past 5 years. I wouldn't go anywhere else, and now I learn that they offer nail and beak trimming as well. Hooray Bird Hut!

I came Sunday to buy a conure grieving from the sudden loss of our pineapple conure, which was 1 and half year old. We were so attached to our lovely coco, which we had DNA, nail clipped, at your store, she was like our child. We have owned and raised parrots and finches for the past 30 years. I enquired to the girl heavy set with a cap on (backwards) about a Turquoise Conure which was for sale at $750.
She responded in a very condescending tone that she could not sell to me any parrot, because I had to talk to Brian the owner. She insinuated I was not worthy to buy a bird nor could I take care of a parrot. I was flabbergasted. My wife was on the phone with me listening to what the girl was saying and could not believe a hourly employee could talk to a customer this way.
I have spent several thousand dollars at Bird Hut in the past 8 years and all I wanted was to buy another Conure as we were so heart broken of losing our Coco.
I asked why would I need to speak to Brian? She responded that it was normal procedure, Brian was to determine if he could sell the Conure to me.
Let me tell you Brian, you don’t need employees who insult your customers. I run a business which is based on customer service and if I had an employee like yours I would be out of business.
I have been in your store for 8 years, spending a lot of money, I just wanted to replace the conure I bought a year and a half ago from your store. I did not need an attitude and insult from your employees. I will take my business elsewhere, where employees don’t have an attitude.
Brian, I hope for your sake you think about this review and take proper action, you just lost $750.

I was dissatisfied with this store. Walking into the place, I do not know if it’s a store or a little ZOO bird place. The first thing you received its attitude asking about birds being available. I was so excited on coming, seeing what kinds of birds they have. 1st impressions made me feel unwelcome. As I continue looking around in the store for birds, I started getting interesting in some birds to add to my family. Majority of birds have message or tag in front on the cage stating this bird is not for sale. This bird is the owner so it’s not for sale. Went and look another bird and was told oh this birds are baby, and they are not ready. And went to look another bird and was told is not for sale because bird is sick, and last i turn to my last option on a bird and was told finally I could not get the bird or buy it where if I have the money right there I have to come to the store and make more than 5 days in a couple of weeks and by having several visits to the store the bird will bond then you can buy the bird. I explain to staff I have several years of experience with birds. The answer I got was I still need to do visits to the store in order to bond with the bird. I am coming to a store to buy a bird, not to pay visitation to bird. Looking around, I noticed how dirty and messy was the floor and over crowded with cage and a such small place. This is unhealthy for us and a bird in general. Both you and the bird need their own space and there are many reasons to that. Instead of questioning customers how to handle a bird, it should be why all these birds are in a extremely small place, and if the store have just birds on display because they’re baby, sick, or sold (etc.) then it should not be on the view of customers. Birds that are sick or appear stressed should not be together with the healthy. REGARDLESS OF EXPERIENCE OR NOT. Would you like someone passing over their sickness to you? In conclusion it dirty, and you can’t buy a bird, lots of NO’s, and bad service. I feel attitude, and it’s unprofessional.

UPDATED REVIEW: I have gone back a few times since that visit, and feel I need to update my review. Each time, the various employees were pleasant and helpful, and were great at balancing various customers and their bird-related cleaning tasks. Apologies for the original review; I shouldn't have left it after just one bad experience.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I have been considering welcoming a new bird into my family, and had fond memories of this place from when I acquired my lovebird several years ago. I was very disappointed.
Never in my life have I felt so unwelcome. While I do not mind that we were not welcomed into the store -- both workers were occupied at the time, and they may not have even heard us over the bird noise -- they did not once ask if we needed any assistance. I shall admit that I do not look like a "responsible bird owner" since I am often mistaken for a teenager, but that does not excuse the atrocious customer service I received. Even after I initiated conversation inquiring about one of the green-cheeks, I was met with a scowl and monosyllabic retort before the woman turned her back on me and left the room.
I tried the other employee. To her credit, she asked if I needed any bird seed when I walked up. I replied no, and she lost all interest, shifting to the same bored monosyllabic responses as the other woman. Despite my inquiries, I received no information about the conure I was considering, giving me the feel that I wasn't worth it, or that the smaller birds aren't worth their time. At least she didn't glare at me.
I left the store without even buying some toys like I had planned on. I refuse to give business to people who treat me like trash.
The birds themselves all seemed happy and healthy, and their cages were clean (Well, as clean as a parrot's cage can ever be, haha). So... one star goes to keeping their birds content. Otherwise, this would only be a one-star review.

Always love getting my mom's finches their food here! Ya get screamed at when ya first walk in the door...but bird screaming is bout the only kind of screaming that's cute ?? definitely recommend this place! Staff knows their stuff and are super nice and fun to talk with, plus knowledgeable on said subject as well!

Don't know of a better place to go to. Owners and employees I've met cared deeply for their charges. They have a large variety of seed, treats, toys, cages, and birds to pick from. Can't promise price wise how they stack up, but can't say I've found better. Last I'd been there they'd bring the birds out for exercise and interactions, which was my favorite part. I loved trying to make friends and seeing the differences in the various breeds. The more nippy Macaws versus the snuggly Cockatoos. I've been thinking of getting a new little buddy (likely a Cockatiel or Conure) and plan to go there first if I become sure I'm ready for the responsibility.

Awful customer service, bought a cage for a bird I was trying to buy at this store. Cage was sent home in a few pieces, no box, no instructions etc.
after accepting my money for the cage they then proceeded to not allow me to buy the bird as they require you to visit 5 or more times to buy a bird….. Went to a different store and got the Quaker Parrot I was after.

Great little place! They know their stuff and they sell everything you need from food, to toys and cages. I recently picked up an amazing cockatiel from them and look forward to continuing to get all the bird things I need from them. Their birds are hand fed and tame. I highly recommend them!
