“It's like a little museum! It's a great place for cautious naturalists, as sustainability is part of their mission statement. Prices are honestly not bad, and the selection is always changing. Also a great place for rare and carnivorous plants. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Either location is a Portland must-see, in my opinion!”
11AM - 7PM
811 NW 23rd Ave, Portland“This place is rad. We bring all of our friends and family here when they come to visit. It's always one stop amongst the Portland weird and it feels like a staple to us and our circle at this point.
There is a lot of taxidermy and that may not be up everyone's alley, but even so there is plenty of art adjacent or diagonal to that space that you just are not aware of.
They have partnered up with several artists that they have in that shop that do incredibly interesting things with their displays. I'm being cautious not to give you much away and being intentionally vague.
They also have geodes you can buy and break, other minerals, plants, and other gifts.
I think it's a very special place to visit.”
“Great shadow boxes to showcase my earrings and protect them from the cat. Very patient with me while working out how it should look. It was a great experience and I'd recommend to anyone with an idea they want to turn into reality.”
“This is the best occult book store I’ve have ever been in. Deep stuff, less airy fairy fluff. They also are very fair with offers on your collectable occult books that need a new home. Can’t recommend enough.”
“This shop is nothing short but amazing, interesting, with a wonderful selection of oddities and trinkets! It is also just so fun to walk in and see what they got, as things tend to come and go! They also have an amazing oddities exhibit for such an affordable price! Please visit and support this wonderful family owned shop!”
“Many years ago I used to provide HR consultation to them. I still think about this company and it brilliance. There were the most spectacular and stunning pictures from Nepal in their gorgeous space. The rugs they had in the studio could only be described in my dreams, absolute decadence!”
“We were greeted by the owners as we came in and the merchandise was beautiful....we purchased a necklace and we couldn't be happier!! Great little local shop”
“I ordered two frames plus the stretch for two 30”x40” oil paintings on Canvas. The framing was done exceptionally well. They are honest and tell you the estimate in non-rushed personal face-to-face meeting. They are a small business with personalized service. The best of all is that their price was lower than a competitor nearby. I will go their again for sure!”
“I just love this little bookstore! Their space may be small, but their selection is *so* well-curated—I make a point to visit when I’m in the area and am always able to find something interesting. Highly recommended!”
“When this market "pops up" again next year, go! During the year this space serves as a studio for dozens and dozens of local artists. For one weekend in December, they open the doors for an a Open Studio Holiday Market. It's your chance to meet the artists, see all of the work and buy a fabulous piece to treasure! With art, it's all about the connection, the emotion, the memories that a piece conjures. While walking through the various studios, several pieces had an effect on me. The abstract nature scenes captured by Deanna Schuerbeke, for example. She was kind enough to let me take two water colors home so I could see them in my space. Abstracts, water colors, pottery, ceramics, textiles, jewelry - even local ciders and spirits! It was truly fabulous! I'm already looking forward to touring again next year. Until then, I made connections with a few artists whose works speak to me so I can make private appointments to see their art.”
“Joshua and Charlie and their collection are amazing. It’s hard not to bankrupt myself when I visit their gallery. I can’t thank them enough for the treasures I have purchased from them. Their love for art bleeds into the world and makes it a better place.”
“This is such a cute and quaint gallery that features all local artists. Artwork rotates monthly and they even teach classes for kids and adults! All experience levels are welcome and you sign up for classes on their website.”
“I recently received a package from Bullseye, Via UPS, which arrived empty. Although well sealed appropriately taped, the box was empty.
I photographed the box and sent a picture to the service department. They did some research and said the box was full when it shipped. This is a mystery. With a little more conversation with Susan, their service rep(Who was extremely courteous and helpful) We managed to get it straightened out. Another box of glasse is on its way. At no additional cost to me. This is tremendous service. No Equivocation, no hemming And hawing, No excuses. And no accusation it must be my fault. They could not have made the
Replacement Easier. I will continue to shop and do business With Bullseye glass and will never worry about a package arriving.
An extremely satisfied customer, Simon Finch”
“If high-quality, beautiful framing to complement fine art prints is what you seek, this is the place to go.There are lots of handmade and unusual options, and it’s truly remarkable how the framing here can enhance an already beautiful piece of work. You may pay more here than elsewhere in town, but for fine art that really deserves the boutique treatment, Katayama is my go-to.”
“There are 2 locations on Alberta, so double check before you head out. We were looking for the show at the other location (on 11th?).Anyways, this location had a fabulous show, which I was a bit more partial to. We picked up a print from the show -AND- a print I'd only seen randomly on the Internet! The store guy (sorry I forgot your name) checked the other location for the piece my husband specifically came to find. Unfortunately, it had sold out.If you are a local artist, this is a beautiful space for a showing (giant courtyard). If you are looking for a fun art piece, this is a great starting point. If you are looking for a gift/card/special item, there are lots of local artists represented. I even saw Miffy the Bunny merch. I haven't seen any of her things in AGES!Excited to come back (and to the other location) next time we are in Portland.”
“I came in hoping to get quotes to get something framed in time for Christmas. Adam the owner from the moment I opened the door was kind, patient, asked great questions and helped me through the process. His attention to detail and expert eye for color made the experience seamless. It is because of his fair prices and expert advice that he got two things to frame instead of one and I will be a repeat customer again in the new year.”
12 - 6PM
15 SE 22nd Ave, Portland“Had no idea this existed until we randomly walked by it. Such a cool store! The books that the owner carefully selects are outstanding and space is fun. Highly recommend.”
12 - 7PM
2234 NW Thurman St, Portland“Ok, I really liked this, it was on my list for some time, so while in town, we gave it a shot. I will say the entrance fee of 10 dollars seems a little steep after having done it. But it isn't unreasonable. You do get lots of photo ops and free popcorn, so I can't complain too much. Nice little gift shop, got a mystery bag and it has a picture for a slide machine from 1951, a weird picture of someone's baby from like the 1800's, some stickers, and a McDonald's minion. Definitely peculiar! I'd say that was worth it for five dollars”
“Beverly and her staff are incredibly knowledgeable about Pacific NW art and this gallery is a fun place to visit. If you want to learn about who all the important artists are in Oregon and Washington and also want to see a (non gallery like) huge collection of local art in all price ranges, this is the place to go!”
“Like Nobody's Business is a great and fascinating shop filled with various handmade art pieces. A wide variety of beautiful pieces, made with great care, provide great décor for your house. Customer service was great. The moment you walk in, the employee, who is really passionate about what he does, shares his knowledge about the art pieces. I recommend checking it out if you want locally made art.”
“Beautifully finished mixed use art gallery space. We saw an all ages show with a handful of artists. The humans that run the space are very kind, as well. It's located right in Kenton, so there are a lot of great food and drink options, starting a block away.”
“I had a fantastic experience. Check in was friendly. Al was communicative and so knowledgeable and took the time to help me figure out what I wanted. The space is nice. I would definitely recommend Al and this salon.”
“They did a very nice job remounting and replacing the broken glass on a framed photo, including offering to replace the glass for free with a remnant piece. It looks much better now! Note that the shop is closed from 11:45-1:00 for lunch every day. Please update your hours on the website.”
“The Guardino Gallery is one of the original galleries where Alberta got the Alberta Arts District from. This shop helped build Alberta Street to what it is today, and we thank you. This gallery incorporates multiple store fronts, has lots and lots of fantastic local art, which rotates about every month, so you keep going back to find that piece your house is missing. Keep a look out for one of their many openings where they showcase individual artists or show up for Last Thursday and see a collection by many, which is usually the case.”
“Seven days ago I ordered a cute, artsy coffee mug from their website. I received an email confirmation of purchase and then nothing. I called a couple days ago to find they had run my card. As of today there's still no notice of shipping or tracking or anything. They did let me know that it's shipping from the artist.EDIT TO ADD: It's been 10 days since my purchase and no mug/no email on shipment. I contacted the gallery again. It's the artist who's being a total flake. The gallery staff contacted the artist and let me know the mug will be shipping tomorrow. They also asked me to let them know when I received it. Even more, they offered me a discount on a future purchase. So, this went from a one star experience to a five star experience.”
“Blind Insect Gallery is probably my second favorite gallery on Alberta, next to Alberta Street Gallery, hehe. Blind Insect Gallery usually has about 60 plus artists adorning the walls and shelfs. Every inch of the small storefront has something, and it is usually great to look at, from local artists with moderate prices to larger pieces that have a large price tag, but with 60+ artists and the price tags ranging you are sure to find the perfect gift or art piece for your desk or wall. This place is great. We love to shop here, and its nice to have such a great shop on Alberta.”
“Great prices and widespread collection of new and old. Just started collecting vinyls this year and have been to numerous stores in PDX. This one is by far the best in terms of pricing.”
“I've been hearing about this place for a while, so finally decided to check it out last weekend. It did not disappoint! It was a lot of fun going through the different rooms, and I love that a lot of the installations are interactive. It was a great sensory experience and a fantastic opportunity to let your inner child come out and play!”
