“This salon came recommended by my sister (a client), and so after moving to Portland I booked a haircut with Jazz -- on a Sunday, no less. She was super sweet and gave me a great cut. I was impressed at how careful she was to make sure that everything was exactly how I wanted. A consummate professional! After discovering that the salon now does color, I booked another appointment with Doyle for partial highlights (I'm trying to lighten my hair color gradually). He did an absolutely amazing job and my hair actually feels better than it did before, very healthy and natural looking. Doyle is a color expert, but also does cuts (he works at salons and fashion shows all over the world, not to mention significant charity work to empower individuals who have faced difficult life challenges). I highly recommend both Jazz and Doyle to anyone who is looking for a fantastic cut and/or color! (I'm sure everyone else at the salon is great, too, but my only experience has been with them, and I already have follow-up appointments booked!)”

I assumed by looking online that the clothes were for an older crowd (I’m 29) but I found so many cute pieces and ended up with a new outfit. Just be aware that it is very expensive!”
“This is my favorite store in Portland! They recently moved to a new “forever home” space in the West End, a block from their original location, and it brings so much warmth and life back to downtown Portland. This store used to intimidate me - the type of place where everything was so pretty but seemed like nothing that would actually look good on me. But I was so surprised once I actually tried something on to find how approachable the clothes were and how good they made me feel in my body. Yes, you are throwing down $$$ for these items, but they are one of a kind and will last a lifetime. I get so many compliments every time I wear a piece from here - Rachel Comey is my favorite line they carry!”

“It was my first time going to a Hot Topic. This one was pretty nice. It had tons of unique styles and accessories from different animals and Japanese-related characters that I recognized. They had great sales like (Bye One Get One for $1) I bought a T-shirt of Jack the Skeleton($16) and I got another for $1. There are plenty of esthetics in this shop like emo, Cutey, Punk, Stylish, etc. Would recommend Coming into the mall and check in this shop out.”

“I've always loved Porch Light and make a point to stop in if I'm in the Pearl District. Feeling 4 stars vs. 5, because of my recent visit where I stopped in to search for an indoor plant. Although I didn't need much, if any assistance in making a selection, I was surprised that I wasn't greeted or given a hello while shopping. It just felt so weird to have the salesperson say absolutely nothing with their head down during the entire 10 minute stay. I was also the only shopper in the store. I ended up making a bigger purchase in the end and the person behind the counter only asked, "receipt?" in a flat tone. It was disappointing not to receive a thank you or just a simple acknowledgment for stopping in and shopping, at my point. I love the store, the brands/plants, and the beautiful, curated offerings, but I'm kind of bummed on Porch Light because of this experience.”

Finally, a friend recommended Jolinda. She gave me great advice and a killer haircut. My hair is thicker and wavier on one side and she's the only stylist who's managed to get my bob symmetrical. “Love Jamie, love what she curates for her shop, love consigning with her, love her Instagram page, love the outfits she puts together. This Oregon City must see has a very nice selection of gently used clothing, handbags, shoes and jewelry (some jewelry is brand new). Jamie is a great communicator with her consignees and I feel better about getting rid of things I no longer want knowing they'll go to a good place - the shop credit is always what I end up taking because there's such cute stuff to choose from!”
